"Get outa heah!" he yelled at her. She responded by jumping down from the crate next to Spot. She ran, almost falling over in the process. Looking back towards Spot, who raised his cane threateningly, she cast one last frightened glance before turning the corner and vanishing. Spot sat back, a frown on his face and his eyes a stormy gray-blue. He could remember another day like this. A day that he tried his hardest not to remember.

FLASHBACK

"Spot?" her voice was soft.

"What do ya want? I'se busy," he said harshly.

"I...well I was wondering if ya wanted to take a walk down-"

"Sky," Spot gritted his teeth "I'm busy".

"I know but I'm your sister...can't you come? I need to talk to you."

Sighing in exasperation Spot dropped his half finished slingshot and stood. "Say what yer gonna say and say it quick," he snapped.

Sky sighed "Spot...I'm leaving."

At this Spot's blood ran cold "Yer...WHAT?!"

"I'm...I'm leaving Brooklyn"

"Why the fuck would ya do that?"

"Because I'm sick and tired of you always telling me what to do! 'No ya can't go!' 'You'se gonna go cause I say so'," she mimicked. In all the time Sky and Spot had been together, Spot had never raised a hand against her. He would rant, yell, and threaten, but never hit her. This time Spot slapped Sky so hard she stumbled backwards. Spot stared at his hand, as if it had somehow disobeyed him, then at Sky's cheek which was already turning red.

"Sky, I-," he started, but was stopped by her look of shocked fear. Sky turned away from him and ran. Spot let her go believing she would return later that day. He would apologize then, he decided. But she never returned. The next day Spot had every single one of his newsies on the look out. He was frantically looking for Sky when Jack approched him. He showed Spot the newspaper of the day and a certain article that had caught his attention. It was about an unnamed girl who had been found stabbed to death in an alley. Spot knew right away who it was. For weeks he didn't leave his room. Nobody blamed him for Sky's death except for himeself. He knew it was his fault. If he hadn't hit her, he could have given her protection in leaving Brooklyn. Maybe even had a chance in changing her mind.

END OF FLASHBACK

Remembering this memory took Spot merely seconds. Quickly, Spot jumped down from his perch. 'This time' he decided 'I'm not going to wait'. He would beg for forgiveness if he had to. He loved her and he wasn't going to lose her too. He ran in search for her.
