Warnings: soulmate au, soulparents, aizawa/Tsukauchi/izuku, apathetic Izuku
...
Fuuma's village hadn't changed much since the last time he visited. The mist still lay heavily on the village protecting it from unwanted outsiders. If he didn't know the way through as well as he did he might have gotten lost. Then again Fuuma's men were no doubt expecting him. Watching to make sure he came alone.
Who else would he have come with? Izuku made a point of getting close to no one and no thing. He had been alone by choice and continued to be so. No matter what the marks on his body said.
Entering the village unseen wasn't much of a challenge. Hiding his presence was second nature. While the guards were expecting him they weren't expecting him to just appear. Awareness training would do them some good.
Many of the Fuuma clan milled about in their village. Most wore traditional garb in plain colors. If they saw Izuku in his black sweatshirt and jeans they would immediately raise the alarm.
Just as the guards were oblivious so were the regular people. Kotarou was way to lax in their security. He should probably bring that up. Eh maybe.
Entering the hall where he was supposed to meet the man he was unsurprising to find it empty. It was very reminiscent of a schools cafeteria. Whether that was to try and put Izuku at ease or something else he didn't know. But as always, at least when he decided to come he was exactly on time and Kotarou liked to be late. So he went to one of the table and sat down.
He had barely sat down before the air shifted. Immediately he jumped back and raising a hand to protect his face. This blocked the fist that had been aimed. There wasn't much force behind it but given who he was up against he couldn't underestimate them. A follow through came to hit him in the stomach. This was side stepped by Izuku.
Around them the air grew heavy as Izuku unconsciously called upon the element. That in itself was a mistake as the other, still unseen reacted much the same way. Elemental manipulation had never been his strong point unfortunately.
A strong blast of wind sent Izuku flying through the air and crashing into far wall with a thud. Izuku groaned as he sat up his ears flicking with agitation. Only then did he notice his illusion had fallen. This in turn had revealed his black fox ears and tails.
Izuku snarled his voice gruff from lack of use, "Kotarou you bastard. Why did you dispel my illusion?"
A familiar tall man with long, black hair tied back in a low ponytail appeared. He wore semi-rimless rectangular glasses, and traditional Japanese clothing. Izuku specialized in illusions but even he didn't have the kind of control this man had.
Kotarou replied with his easy going smile, "Well I wanted to speak to the real you. Not the illusion you keep up in order to walk amongst the regular humans."
Izuku growled low in his throat, "I like my illusion thank you very much. Besides what's it to you if I hide myself. I'm not a member of the Fuuma clan. In fact I'm only here because you wouldn't stop bombarding me with mail."
Kotarou quipped back, "Well if you would get with the times I wouldn't have to do that. Why don't you get a phone since you want to live amongst the normals?"
"No money. I refuse to be a thief."
An object came flying at his head. With practiced ease Izuku caught it and turned it over so he could examine the object. It was the latest phone if what he heard on the streets was correct.
Izuku opened his mouth to refuse but Kotarou beat him to it, "Don't bother refusing. I have already paid for it for the next year. Think of it as an early birthday present."
"It's not my birthday. You don't even know when my birthday is!"
Neither did he for that matter. It had been so long since he had a reason to celebrate it. Or anything for that matter.
Kotarou said wagging a finger at him, "You're right I don't know your actual birthday. It is however getting close to the five year anniversary of the first time that Tobari dragged you here. How is the man?"
"I wouldn't know," admitted Izuku, "It's been awhile since I last stayed with him."
The air shifted around him. Izuku gripped one of his many knives that he kept in his cloak. Only for a warm firm hand to grab his wrist. Izuku glanced up his ears twitching with his annoyance. Then they folded back.
The one who held his wrist was a tall man in his mid-twenties, with shoulder-length black hair that is styled messily, with bangs that partially covers his left eye. Grey eyes were warm as they stared down at him. The man forewent his usual black suit instead wore a white button down dress shirt and black slacks. As usual there was a metal clasp around his left ear. The Forbidden Technique.
Izuku said low, "Tobari it's been awhile. What are you doing here?"
Once he was sure Izuku wouldn't stab him he released the boy's wrist. Then he said, "It has been awhile, Izuku. I am here because Kotarou said he was going to call you here. I've been here for three days waiting to see if you would appear."
"Did you walk again? Or did the Fuuma kidnap you?"
Tobari's face went green at the thought. It seemed they had in fact kidnapped him again. The man absolutely hated any kind of vehicles. According to him it had always been that way ever since he was a boy. It probably wouldn't be so bad if his grandfather hadn't forced him to move via ship from Ireland.
Kumohira Tobari Durandal was his name and it was well known throughput the world of Nabari. A small group known as Banten was led by him. They were small but powerful. Officially Izuku was apart of this group as one could not remain neutral within Nabari.
Once called the world of ninjas it was now considered those who followed certain teachings. Only the leaders of what had been the Five Major Clans that remained still held Forbidden Techniques. Due to the war that ended five year ago only Banten and Fuuma remained. Izuku would always take Tobari over Kotarou any day of the week. Tobari was an honest man who wore his heart on his sleeves.
Turning his attention back to Kotarou he asked, "Now that you have me here what do you want? You wouldn't have called Tobari and myself unless you wanted something."
Kotarou replied with a false smile that sent shivers down his spine, "I want you to go to hero school."
Tobari choked on air as Izuku denied without any inflection, "No."
"But."
"No."
The two stared each other down. Tobari tried to get ahold on the situation, "Oh don't start your silent arguments again. I have to deal with more than enough of those when Kouichi and Miharu."
Kouichi? It had been almost as long since he saw the white haired red eyed immortal. Like Izuku he kept up a constant illusion to hide his ears and tail. To walk amongst the normal people they kept up illusions. Their appearances would cause more questions than they wanted to answer.
As far as Izuku knew there were only three immortals in their world. All of three stayed in Japan where they could watch over the country. To ensure that it didn't fall into chaos. According to Kouichi he had stepped in during the early quirk era. He had advocated for peace.
Izuku would rather stay out of it. Let them destroy themselves. It was none of his business what they did with their free will. That was why they had free will in the first place.
As if reading his mind Kotarou said, "I am calling in the debt you owe me," Tobari sucked in a surprised breath but Izuku did not outwardly react, "Ten years ago you asked me to save a life and in turn you would do as I ask when I called it in. I'm doing so now."
Izuku said still as calm as before, "What would you have me do, Kotarou Fuuma? I though you'd never call in my debt."
The man flashed a smile that showed too much teeth as he said, "Because I know what will happen in little more than a year's time and I wish to stop it. However I can't," won't, "get involved directly."
Izuku turned his head to the side curiosity getting the better of him, "So what do you want me to do?"
Tobari asked in turn, "And why am I here?"
Kotarou sighed the briefest flicker of annoyance crossing his face, "You two are no fun. Tobari you are here because Izuku is going to need an official place to stay while he is in the city of Musutafu. A base of operations if you will. As for you Izuku I want two things. First is for you to get into UA. Legally," he stressed, "The next I want you to start work in getting criminals off the streets of Musutafu."
"You want me to be a vigilante?" That was unexpected.
"The more villains you can get off the streets the better. We need as few of them available in a year's time."
Izuku tsked but nodded. With his debt in place there wasn't much of a choice. Kotarou could ask for any number of things. This was more reasonable than he had expected honestly.
The man continued, "Of course I'll provide all you need. Gear and weapons. Knowing you, you won't use the techniques you've learned over the years. Except for that illusion of yours."
Izuku said, "Then my stipulation is that you put on my forms that I am quirkless. Let the heroes figure out the truth on their own."
