Disclaimer: I don't own ER

Dear journal,

The past week has been very hectic. My work in the ER is going well. (I think) Everything is going well. I really like Abby, one of the nurses. She makes me feel safe just like mom used to. I miss her.

Jason is doing well, or at least that's what Francis said. I met up with him last week after work. I can't believe I haven't seen him since twelfth grade.

Things are getting pretty hot between Dr. Carter and me. He asked me out last Thursday, and we went to this nice restaurant.

The other people at work are really nice! But Dr. Malucci is a little strange. I don't know if I like him or not. He always weird and not all there when I'm around him. (He's totally normal with everyone else.)

I'm falling asleep here. I haven't slept or eaten in a while. Good night,

Lucy .

.

Her alarm clock sounded, but she ignored it as best she could. "Stop beeping!" Lucy yelled at the machine in her bedroom. She got up of the couch and made her way to her empty room. The sun shined in through the curtains that she had left open the night before. Lucy stared at the beeping creature on the cardboard box beside her bed. "This'll be the last of you," she said as she ripped the plug out from wall and through her new alarm clock out the window.

The young girl made her way to her kitchen. She took out the cereal dumped some into a plastic bag, changed her clothes, fixed her hair and went out the door. She breathed in the cold winter air; it was so refreshing.

.

Dr John Carter woke up by his toilet. "Why am I here?" he asked himself. Rubbing the side of his face he remembered why. He was burning up. In his tired mind he debated whether or not to go to work. He shook his head and forced himself up. "Where's the phone?"

When he discovered he had left it in the freezer, he sighed deeply and dialed for the hospital. "County general." Jerri said in his usual unexcited but not unhappy voice.

"Hi Jerry... Kerri." John was in no mood for conversation.

"Hold on, Carter." Jerry replied. Slowly he made his way to his couch to lay down. As rested his head on the pillow, he could hear screaming on the other end of the line.

"Hey Carter." answered the voice on the other line.

"You're not Kerri."

"Oh but I am."

"Malucci I need Kerri not... you."

"She's busy. What d'ya need?"

Carter fought for his breath. "Tell her I can't make it today."

"Again? Are you okay? She's gonna kill you if you don't show up eventually."

"Then tell her I'll be there in a few hours..." The doctor could feel his energy draining and everything began to go blurry.

"Are you okay Carter? Carter?" The line was blank as the phone dropped to the ground.

.

Dave was unsure what to do. John had been sick since Friday and it was now Tuesday. 'He'll be okay.' He tried to convince himself while he made his way to play messenger for Kerri. "Where is she? Where's everybody?" Dave spun around. The hospital was empty. Had there been an evacuation and he missed the signals? He ran into every room. Nothing. Not a sound or person was left in the hospital.

"Dave. Dave!" he heard from afar as his body shook. "Dave wake up!" He opened his eyes to see an angel shaking him and all his friends were there. He looked around; everything seemed so bright.

"Am I dead?" He questioned the angel who still held hold of his shoulders. His friends all laughed. "Why are laughing at me?" he yelled as he was shaken once again. His mind came back to reality.

"You fell asleep while you were on the phone." Dave looked up; the angel was gone and Lucy stood in her place with her hands on his shoulders. They all laughed again and walked away. A trauma was coming in. Outside, Susan waited with Abby and Luka.

"So what was that all about?" Luka asked the two women.

"Who knows." Susan answered. "The kid's been on for two days straight. That's enough to make anyone fall over the edge."

The ambulance ran into the driveway with another following. The paramedics jumped out carrying a young man. Abby and Susan followed it in and Luka waited for the other.

"Young female, 21, says her name is Madison Lockhart..."

Abby's mind stopped. Madison Lockhart. They were never supposed to see each other again. When Madison went off to Juvi, they moved away because her mother didn't want her anymore. And she thought her life was hard. Madison was abandoned by her own family. What could a kid do to deserve that kind of horrid treatment? A tear slipped down her cheek when Susan's voice finally broke into her thoughts,

"Abby, come on!"

She ran ahead into trauma one. "What do we have?" Abby asked. Susan explained the situation. Madison looked over at her sister,

"Abby?" she whispered as Abby took her hand.

"She's not breathing. Bag her!"

A lump formed itself in the nurse's throat. "Madison."
