Carter sat on the floor of his apartment, staring at old pictures. There was he and Doug. There was Dr. Benton with a little girl. Dave fooling around with the other med-students. Abby hanging off of Susan. Kerri chasing Dr. Romano. Luca falling off his chair laughing. Then there was Lucy Knight. She was so beautiful. Her long blonde hair hanging over her shoulders, her cheery smile brightening the picture. John was surprised to see a tear drop onto her picture. He sniffled.
"I miss you so much." He said as he held the picture to the side of his face. "I wish you were here. I dream about you." John felt so much sorrow and loss over that woman. And he knew he always would. "It should have been me." He whispered before he broke into a chain of sobs.
'At least I have Lucy, to remind of you. I won't let her go too. I promise.' He said to himself when suddenly, the phone broke into his vow.
"Hello?"... "Hi Lucy."... "Ya I feel much better. Tell Kerri I'll be in shortly."... "Okay."... "Bye."
.
"Jerry, where's Dr. Weaver?" Lucy asked pulling him out of his daydreams.
"Um... I think she's in exam 1." He said.
Dave stood beside him doing some paperwork, he watched her as she skipped away. Her small body swayed from side to side and her light brown hair flipped and curled as she bounced up and down. Her big blue eyes were so lively as they searched around for the chief. She couldn't find her so she went to help out the other doctors. Dave sighed as he watched her flip her hair over her shoulder. For a moment, their eyes locked. They looked straight at each other, then like all the other times she laughed and looked away. Dave ran his hand through his hair as Lucy skipped over to Dr. Carter who had just gotten in. He held her in his arms. He looked like a giant compared to her. Her small body pressed against his, with her head not even reaching his shoulder.
"I hate him!" Dave whispered to himself. That wasn't true, he was actually quite fond of Dr. Carter, but he was slightly envious. 'I never dreamt the day I'd envy Carter.' Dave would say to himself. He grunted as he crushed the milk carton in his hand, sending milk flying everywhere.
"Calm down Malucci." Luka said as he walked by and patted him on the back.
The young man felt like everyone was laughing at him. Though, it was likely that they were. 'Someday, you'll be mine Lucy.' The doctor thought while he laughed viciously.
"Are you okay Dr. Malucci?" Lucy asked. Dave was so embarrassed; he could feel his cheeks turning red as he made his way to the bathroom.
.
"Lucy! Lucy! Lucy!" a voice yelled.
The med-student searched the room for the voice. 'I know that voice.' She told herself. Abby came by her. "Weaver wants you Lucy." She said. Lucy absently nodded her head and went over to the doctor.
"Lucy!" She turned around. "Let go." The man said to the guard who was holding him back. The young girl looked toward the entrance and smiled and ran over. "Thank you." he said to the guard as he let him go.
"This yours?" he asked in a deep voice. Lucy nodded.
"Jason! I can't believe you're here!" she yelled at her brother as she leapt into his arms. "How did you get here?"
"Remember Madison Lockhart? From high school? Well she was going to Chicago, so I hitched a ride. And now I'm here!" Jason smiled. His smile was wide and cute. He nudged his sister. "You know what? You work with some pretty hot people." Lucy hit her brother and he laughed.
"When did you get here?" She asked him.
Jason thought for a moment. "Um... a few days ago. So, when are you off?" Lucy looked down at her watch.
"In two hours." Jason sighed. "Come on, uh, Dr. Weaver!" Kerri dragged herself over. "This is my brother, Jason..."
.
"Lucy." Dave said as he ran to catch up to her. "Would you like to do something tonight? As friends?" Lucy laughed at his insecurity.
She agreed as long as her brother could join them. Dave was more than willing to. At this point he'd do anything to go out with her.
Lucy and Dave made their way to the lounge where Jason had been waiting. "Jason. Jason." Lucy whispered to her brother as she shook him awake. He had fallen asleep on the couch.
Jason looked at his sister with sleepy eyes. "We're gonna go for dinner. Me, you and Dave." She said pointing at him. He nodded and jumped up from the couch.
.
At the restaurant, Dave, Lucy and Jason were really enjoying themselves. They had danced a little and talked a lot.
"We have to go!" Jason yelled when he looked down at his sister's watch. Lucy's eyes widened and Dave, being perfectly understanding, drove them to Lucy's apartment.
"I had fun tonight." Dave said as the two got out of his car.
"Us too! Thanks Dave." Lucy said while she looked deeply into his eyes. Jason pulled on his sister's arm and they went up the stairs.
