"You can't like him." Jason said slipping on his words. "You're going out with that other doctor. Joe whatchamacallit." Lucy laughed as she put the key in the door.

"It's John Carter. And I know. But there's just so much more feeling with Dave. You know what I mean?"

"Ya, I do." Jason had once been torn between two girls. "But Joe-

"John."

"Whatever. John seems to really like you. Then again so does Dave. There's too much of that lost puppy look with Dave. John is tough. I think. He seems like Francis. A fighter. Dave's got to much passion. You want a guy that'll protect, fight for you. I mean Joe- I know- John could use strength. What's dancer-boy there gonna do? Dance them to death?" Lucy watched as her brother went on and on and paced across her floor.

"Jason- Jason stop!" Lucy hollered at her mumbling brother. He stopped abruptly when her voice stung through his ears. Jason looked at her then her counter and laughed.

He threw a stale baguette at his sister. "Engarde!" he said swinging the bread at her. They sword fought throughout the apartment before Jason opened the door and backed up into the hallway. "Ha! Ha! I'm winning." He said as quietly as he could.

Lucy smiled at Jason before attacking with her bread. "Lucy..." Jason said bending over beside the staircase. "Lucy... stop..." His eyelids flickered. Lucy jumped to grab his hand as he fell back, but missed. She watched in horror as his head banged the steps while his body slid down the stairs.

"Jason!" she yelled after him as she tried to chase him. She met up with his slumped body on the landing. Lucy held up her older brother, like he had done many times for her. She could feel his blood trickling down her arm as she examined his broken body. She discovered a piercing through his back and prayed that it hadn't hurt him. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she ran back up the stairs. She went into her apartment and searched for the phone.

.

Soon enough paramedics were running up the stairs for Jason. Lucy was allowed to ride in the ambulance with him.

At the hospital, Drs. Carter and Pratt waited for the ambulance. "Lucy!" John yelled as he ran alongside Jason. The doctors were gathered in trauma 1 to help Jason. Lucy paced outside waiting for something, someone, anything to let her know he was okay.

"Lucy!" John yelled out at her. "Get it in here!"

"But Weaver said-

"Who cares! We need you!" John finished just as the young girl burst in. Jason was struggling to stay alive. Lucy squeezed the bag to get him breathing.

.

Upstairs in the ICU, Abby watched her sister breathe in and out. Her small body lay motionless in front of her. Out of the darkness, she saw the young girl's head turn toward her. "Abby?" she asked.

"I'm here. I'm here." Abby said rubbing Madison's hand.

"I missed you, Abby. I missed Eric too. How is everyone?" Madison's voice shook and scratched as she talked. It was deeper than Abby remembered.

"Eric's good. Mom's good too." It felt strange to talk to someone about her family. They weren't actually doing very 'good'. But she couldn't tell her that. Not now.

"Abby, stay with me tonight." Abby watched as her sister drifted back to sleep. She laid her head next to Madison's and closed her eyes. Not once letting go of her hand.

.

Pratt glanced down and saw the sheets absorbing the young man's blood. "Lucy, did something cut him?"

Pictures flooded her mind. The puncture, the blood, the nail sticking out. "Ya. A nail sticking out of the floor, he landed on it."

John looked at his body and he knew. "His lung's collapsed. It's too late." His pulse went flat.

"No! You have to do something!" Lucy wept over Jason's body.

Pratt sighed and reluctantly looked up at the clock. "Time of death, 11:00" The two men went over to the weeping student. Lucy fell into John's arms.

"Why?"
