Lucy stayed at the hospital for the remains of the night. Throughout which she assisted the doctors with the traumas. As there were few of them they needed all the help. Somewhere between five and six o'clock, Lucy sat at the admit desk watching the sunrise. It made her think of home. When she was younger and she would play with her friends until dusk, and go out in the mornings with her brother and watch the sunrise. Like she did right then.
She loved how the colors would mix together. The way the orange and the pink made a beautiful frame for the bright sun. Lucy felt a warm hand on her shoulder. "How ya holdin up?" Dr. Pratt asked her.
She stared at him. Her cheeks were still wet from crying and her eyes had become pink. "I don't know," she said sobbing.
Pratt sat down beside her and brought her into his arms. "It'll be alright." He felt her small body shaking against his and her tears sank into his shirt.
"It's just so hard. I miss him." Lucy cried harder in her consoler's arms when a trauma burst through the doors.
"You ready for this?" Lucy sniffled and got to her feet they followed the paramedics into trauma 2.
Everything was going well. They had gotten all the blood; breathing and blood pressure were normal. Until the man's watch beeped. John and Pratt were leaving the room as Lucy yelled to them. "He's flat lining!"
The two men rushed back to the patient. "We're gonna have to shock him." Dr. Carter rubbed the two blocks together and shocked him. Nothing. They boosted up the pressure and shocked him again. Still nothing. They continued in that fashion until he went back to normal. They watched him for a bit and left the room as another patient came in.
As the paramedic told announced the problem, the clock struck eight and the other doctors made their way in. "Lucy pass me the..." was all she heard for 5 minutes or so. Then it was her time to shine and she did it perfectly.
.
"Where's Carter?" Weaver demanded.
"I think he's in a trauma." Jerry replied. Kerri walked off to find the doctor. As Lucy, John and Pratt left trauma 1, Kerri stormed over to them. "John! Can I talk to you?" She asked. He nodded and followed her away. Pratt and Lucy laughed at how angry she seemed.
.
"What did I tell you to tell Lucy last week?" She questioned him.
"To stay out of traumas." He said absentmindedly. He turned and saw the look on her face. "We were short doctors, and she was here. We needed help and there it was." He said defensively.
Kerri went on about how he had 'disobeyed' her and such.
"I can't disobey you! You're not in control of me." After a long night, he wasn't up for being yelled at. "That girl is perfectly capable of doing anything we can do. That's not a good enough reason to keep a doctor from doing what they do." Carter continued yelling at Kerri as she stared up at him.
"Is that all?" She asked unpleased.
John stared at her. His eyes flaring anger and rage. While hers with disapproval and fury. The look on her face told him what came next. Everyone watched from a distance, afraid to be to close.
"Get out of this hospital."
