John stormed out of the hospital. The sun was shining bright, but dark rain clouds came to hide it. John felt like his world had crumbled underneath him. He wished that he could blame it on her, but it wasn't her fault. He could only blame himself. As he stared up at the sky, he heard Kerri's voice yelling at him to take his stuff. Then he felt the contents of his locker hit his back. He cursed the woman. Then heard her yell.
"And don't bother coming back!" The words hit his face like the whipping wind. John felt like he'd had his breath knocked of him. Sure, he had had some troubles with the ER in the past year but he never expected it to end like this.
John sighed and began to pick up his stuff. Dr Pratt came running out of the hospital. "Carter! Wait." John looked up at him. His eyes were teary but he tried to hold it back. "Carter, I'm sorry."
John looked away from his friend. "It's okay." He whispered. "It's not your fault." He felt horrible.
"Hey man, if you hadn't let Lucy help, a lot of those people would have died. You're pretty brave." Pratt told him. He admired how he could do that, knowing the risk. "That's what bein a doctor is all about."
John felt horrible but was happy to hear that... more than happy. Abby came up behind them and Dr Pratt gave him a hug, then left. John bent down and continued picking up his stuff. "John..."
"Please Abby, don't say anything." He looked up at her from the ground.
"Well then I guess it's goodbye. Thank you John... for everything." Abby bent down and kneeled beside him. "I'll always love you."
"Me too." He whispered. John pulled her in towards his body. He sniffled as his tears dripped into her brown hair. He regretted never being able to feel her close to him like that. Her warm body began to shake as she sobbed in his arms. "I'm sorry Abby." Abby sat in his arms for what felt like an eternity. Their bodies side by side and John's head resting on hers.
"Abby!" Kerri yelled.
He stood up. "Goodbye." He said as loud as he could but only whispered. "I love you."
