Quick summary because I guess some people are a little lost:
A new med-student, Lucy came to work at county. Dr. Carter and her had a little dispute (chap3). A few weeks later in Lucy's journal, we hear that her and Carter have gotten together. Abby is surprised when a trauma a patient comes in and turns out to be her sister, Madison. (Chap7 is unimportant.) Later on, Lucy is surprised to meet up with her brother Jason at the hospital. Her, him and Dave go out to dinner that night, and are then dropped off at Lucy's place. Later that night, Jason is brought to the hospital where they were unable to save him. As she stayed around for most of night at the hospital, Lucy helped out with the traumas. Kerri then furious with knowing that Carter had disobeyed her, ordered him out of the hospital and to not bother coming back. Outside, Carter says goodbye to his friends.
I hope that clears things up. If not, or if I made it worse, write me and I'll try to help! ( :

That night John sat on his couch. Miserable. 'Tomorrow will be another day.' He tried to tell himself. But reassurance never came. The light of the TV shined brightly through his unlit apartment. The setting sun peered in through the cracks between the dark curtains and the wall. John sighed deeply as he watched the characters on the screen laugh.
As he got up to turn off the TV, the phone started ringing. "It's probably Kerri wanting to yell some more." He over to the phone and breathed in deeply before answering. "Hello?"
"Hi John." He was relieved to hear that voice.
"Hey Lucy. How are you?" He asked her. Lucy replied, and they talked for a while. John felt happier with the presence of someone else. He didn't feel quite as depressed and alone.
"Well, I should let you go." He decided. "You probably have to get up early tomorrow."
Lucy sighed. "Ya, it'll be different not having you there, knowing that you're not gonna come back."
John held the phone down from his face. He was fighting off tears as they bobbed over his eyelids. Bringing the phone back up to his face, he heard her voice again. "I can't stop feeling like it's my fault. I'm sorry John."
He wanted to reassure her but the words wouldn't come out. "Then I guess I'll talk to you later. Bye."
"Goodbye." Lucy responded numbly. She waited until he hung up to set her phone down. "I love John." She whispered to herself as she walked to her bed.
Unable to sleep, she watched the rain trickle off the roof and down the window. The streets were empty. Just like she felt.
