"John?" Lucy asked again. "What happened?"

Jumping off the edge of the truck Carter explained what had happened. "I was about to cross the street, when a car came racing by. It tried to swerve so that it wouldn't hit the people crossing on the other side but hit them anyway. And as the car continued to turn, it collided with two other cars."

Lucy had no way to respond as the group steered the stretcher into trauma 3. (A/N: ya I know there's no trauma 3) Time raced by as they treated the worried mother who cared only about her two children in the other room.

Lucy's mind twirled as she finally got her chance to help with the trauma. "Bag her..." Deb muttered some unneeded comment at the student. "Bag her!" Lucy repeated.

"Carter get over here!" Deb screamed at him. The young man ran around the trauma patient and stopped beside his ex colleague to hold the bag. The young mother's abdomen began to bleed and her heart rate went down as they tried to control it. After five intense minutes of working on her and trying to stop the bleeding, she passed.

"Time of death 8:43." Deb sighed as she walked out of the room. "Nice work, Lucy." The student smiled. That was the only nice thing she had ever to her.

.

"Carter!" Kerri yelled at him as he walked away from the hospital. The doctor stopped and turned to his follower.

"What?" he asked unhappily.

"It's been a few weeks since you've been gone and..." Kerri stopped and looked away. "And well, I know you know what I'm gonna ask you." She stared at him waiting for a response.

He thought about playing with her, saying he didn't but it was probably a bad idea. So he just answered numbly. "No, you were right."

Kerri was stunned, why was he saying 'no'? What did he have to gain from that? "John, please, at least stay around for the day."

Carter could tell it took everything she had and more to just ask the first time, but the second. That he admired. "Ya I'll stay."

Kerri smiled and whispered. "Thank you, John."

.

The day continued on, busy just like the morning. "It's good to have you back." Lucy said as she leaned on her 'friend'. "Even if it is only for the day." The young girl smiled. "So I have a break in a few minutes you wanna go outside and get some air?"

John sighed. "I can't I have something to propose to Kerri and I want to do it before everything gets busy again." Lucy nodded. "Why don't you go with..." he looked around, and saw Dave watching the clock. "Malucci."

Lucy looked over and laughed. "Okay I'll see you later." She reached up and kissed im on the cheek.

"Dave!" she yelled. "You got a break soon?"

"Ya actually in..." Dave looked at the clock. "2 and half minutes." The two laughed.

Lucy checked her Shrek2 watch. (Hehe) "Me too, you wanna go for a coffee? As friends?" She laughed as Dave bit his lip and his cheeks reddened a bit.

"Sure."

Impatiently, they counted down the seconds until the break began. "54-53- 52... 21-20-19... 8-7-6... 3-2-1 Break." They laughed like young children as they made their way out of the hospital. Crossing the street they made their way into Doc Magoo's.

"Coffee, one milk two sugars." Lucy ordered the same thing that Dave did. It seemed most of the doctors would always get the same. It was simpler that way. As they made their way to sit down, they saw that all the seats were taken.

"Do you want to sit outside?" Dave asked smiling. Lucy agreed so the two of them sat side by side on the ledge of the restaurant's window. "So what are you're plans for the weekend?"

"Don't have any." Lucy said simply. "Why?"

"Just... asking." Dave looked down at his watch. "We should go, our breaks over in two minutes." Lucy laughed. "What?"

"You're so accurate. It's cute." She said getting up and throwing her cup in the garbage. "Let's go." Lucy and Dave stood on the side of the street waiting for all the cars to by.

"Gees we're gonna be late because we couldn't get across the street." He said impatiently.

"At least we'll have an excuse... okay, I've got it, we'll run as quick as we can when we see a break in the road. Okay, say go." Lucy said brilliantly.

"GO!" Dave screamed. They ran quickly across the street. Lucy squealed as her shoelace got caught under her other shoe. Falling to the ground she caught herself before the ground flattened. She sighed and tried to run, but was incapable when a red Porsche sent her over it's shiny metal body and dropped on the pavement.

"LUCY!" Dave yelled as he ran in front of the cars that had so nicely stopped just for them. He quickly scooped her up from the ground and dashed out of street. He ran as though a dragon was chasing him. Into the hospital, he came screaming. In shock, he didn't know what to do.

"Help!" he yelled. "HELP!"
