They say death isn't supposed to be painful. They say when you die, you see the memories of your life flowing through your brain. That you're supposed to remember all your happy times, all the best parts of your life. That you're supposed to be relaxed, and feel no pain.
Well "they" are wrong. You don't feel zero pain. Dammit, they're wrong. Because what you feel is pain beyond all pain.
When you see your mother screaming at you at the top of her lungs; your father threatening to beat you at such a young age, you feel pain. When you see your best friend meeting you for the first time, smiling at you like hell, you feel pain.
All the memories flashed in front of you, whether good or bad, you still feel the pain of a sensation that no one could describe. You see your best friend getting married, and you feel pain. The memories that were once so happy for you now bring you pain, remembering everything just making death worse.
When you see the love of your life giving you that sweet first kiss that you enjoyed so much, you feel pain. If the memory of Lord Voldemort torturing her to death isn't painful, then who knows what is?
When you die, you're not supposed to feel the pain that others have once you die. You're not supposed to see your godson crying himself to sleep for the next few months. You're not supposed to see one of your best friends grieving over you. You aren't supposed to realize all the pain one death can cause.
They say you see one of the best moments of your life flashing before you once everything ends. That you're supposed to be content with the finality of your memories.
Well, once again, "they" are wrong.
If seeing yourself causing the death of the two people you care most about for the last second of your life is contented, then yeah, "they" are right. But is that happy? No.
The pain of seeing all the things throughout your life, seeing all the things you've done that were so terrible. Seeing all the things that should make you happy, and then seeing death flashed before you. Seeing all the people that will now miss you, the people that love and care about you.
Death isn't a simple, "Oh, I guess I'll just kick the bucket now!" It's painful. And once you see that last look of your best friend dying, and then feel the pain of realization, you feel pain. Once you realize that you'll never touch grass again; never eat another funny tasting Bertie Bott's bean again; never cast a spell to make that annoying boy in the corner burp up slugs, you feel realization, and finally die.
Death isn't supposed to be a long painful experience. Perhaps physically, but not emotionally. Many people may disagree, but emotional pain is the worst of all. And that's what death is. The worst kind of pain.
A/N: Okay, this is a one-shot folks, and if you haven't already figured it out, this is a flash of what Sirius goes through once he dies…Please R&R!
