This is set late into the summer after destiny just before season 2 times. Please r&r.

"I am so glad I let you talk me into growing out my hair this summer, it's perfect. Not only does it look great, but also, it's suitable. I can tie it back in a ponytail like now when I'm at work and I haven't got any annoying hair strands falling in my face." Maria stated, as Liz ran her fingers through Maria's blonde ponytail.

"Yeah I'm loving it chica. Have you considered golden highlights?" Liz asked. The two girls were leant against the counter discussing hair, music, movies and make- up since the afternoon shift was really quiet and there were only two booths of customers who were already happily served. Alex frowned at the topic of conversation and did one last 360-degree turn on his stool and spun back to face his two best friends.

"Okay ladies we need a new conversation, it's just not stimulating anymore. It's all we've talked about ALL summer, and don't get me wrong I'm really digging the look Ria. However we are back in school next week and I'll have to sit through this never ending conversation again from Roswell's finest hair bimbo's asking you questions because they've been on vacation and haven't seen it yet. So please for the love of god we can talk about a manly topic for once. I mean seriously I'm a guy, A GUY. I need some guy conversation once in a while you know and your just not working with me here. So please for the LOVE OF GOD!" He exclaimed repeating himself several times to stress his point. Maria and Liz stared at him for a minute or so listening to his rant, there faces expressionless, then when they were satisfied he'd finished they turned back to one another and continued their conversation, trying to drown out the noise of Alex banging his head against the countertop.

"So she was like all I now, and then Greg was like uh yeah whatever and then Casey was being so UH and as for Thomas, well he was just sat there like you know, and as for Janine, just don't even get me started on her." Kimmy rushed out twirling a strand of straight jet-black hair and chomping on pink bubble gum. Kyle sat opposite her, his mouth hanging open and his eyes expressing a mixture of shock, horror and confusement. The girl spurted out words ninety to the dozen, and they rarely formed acceptable sentence. In- fact they just DIDN'T form sentences. Maria whirled over to him placing an empty glass on the table in- front of him. Kyle turned to look at her his expression still the same and his mouth hanging open.

"To catch the saliva cos I noticed you ain't swallowing. I'd really advise you close that mouth of yours, you're gonna catch flies in their if you keep this up." She stated then swept away back to the counter laughing. Kyle connected with what she was saying and quickly closed his jaw and tuned out the ramblings of the girl in- front of him, insistently looking at his watch willing the time away.

"Oh my gosh is that the time. Wow I guess it's true that time flies when your having fun." She giggled an hour later. Kyle blinked forcing his eyes to stay open and the realization of what she had said hit him and he quickly jumped out of the booth shocking her.

"Gee is that the time, well it's been . . ." he started not sure what to call it and fumbled in his mind to think of something. "An knowledgeable experience." He finished, it's not like he had lied. It had defiantly been an experience, just a bad one. And as for the knowledgeable, it was true; he'd certainly learnt a few things. Like what every cheerleader thought of plastic and that a person could actually talk that fast. He walked her over to the crashdown door and shut it quickly shut it behind her making his way over to Maria, Alex and Liz at the counter.

"So how'd your date go? You looked like you were having a blast." Alex laughed, and Kyle glared back.

"Couldn't one of you have rescued me? I mean seriously I've never heard such a boring conversation in my whole life, and as for my head, it's banging from trying to keep up with the speed of her mouth." He exclaimed.

"Since when do you care what the conversation is like and how fast they talk, the only thing you cared about was how they rated on the looks scale not the brain scale." Maria pointed out.

"Hey I resent that." Liz chipped in frowning.

"Look Buddha has taught me the importance of a persons personality. You can't love someone on looks alone." Kyle explained to his new smirking friends.

"Wow that's very deep for you Kyle." Alex replied.

"I don't have to take your taunting. You finished your shift yet Maria, I can drop you and Alex off if you want?" Kyle asked.

"Nah, I wanna catch up with Liz. I gotta tell her all the gossip she missed from being in Florida all summer." Maria instructed steering Liz over to an empty booth in the now empty restaurant.

"Alex?" Kyle asked.

"No thanks man, I'll catch a ride with Maria, see you tomorrow though." Alex thanked.

"Later!" Kyle shouted to the other two then headed home. Alex made his way over to the booth and slid in next to Liz.

"So does Michael like the new look?" Liz asked Alex cast a wary glance at Maria who flattered slightly but quickly returned her look back to before.

"We haven't seen one another since the first week of summer vacation. Your dad decided to extend the opening of the café to three am to catch late night clubbers after something to eat and he's taken that shift for the summer and he got a job at the lift off gas station during the afternoon. So he sleeps and works. All I know is what Max has told me but he said him and Isabel have barely seen him themselves." Maria explained.

"Haven't you gone and bought gas at the lift off to see him?" Liz questioned.

"Nah, I thought about it but decided against it. I don't want to seem clingy or desperate to see him. Besides my mom's got this crush on the new guy at Jakes gas station so she takes the Jetta there every day just to see him. It's costing us loads of unnecessary money just so my mom can get a smile out of her crush. Seriously you'd think she was the teenager." Maria pointed out smiling, and Liz and Alex smiled along with her.

"Hey why don't you two sleep over tonight and we can all catch up. I've missed you." Liz suggested rising from the booth.

"Sure I'll go call my mom." Maria answered making her way into the break room and up to Liz's.

"Yeah I'll call dad from down hear and let him now. It'll be alright though." Alex replied following Liz into the break room. Liz made her way upstairs and Alex went over to the phone and picked up the receiver, he prepared his fingers to dial when the back door burst open and slammed shut again. Alex dropped the phone back on the hook and turned to see Michael swinging open his locker obviously unaware of Alex's presence.

"Nice entrance." Alex spoke up and Michael swung around to face him.

"Didn't know anyone was in here." Michael replied ignoring Alex's quip.

"Obviously. I just gotta use the phone to tell my dad I'm staying here tonight." Alex explained turning back to the phone and picking it up.

"Sure." Michael picked up his apron and went into the kitchen. Alex finished up his phone call and started up the stairs. He glanced at his watch and realized that Michael was strangely five minutes early for his shift usually he was like fifteen minutes late and a plan formulated in his head. He walked into Liz's room and saw the two girls talking. He quickly wound back his watch by five minutes and walked over to the bed and collapsed beside Maria.

"Oh I forgot the ice- cream. Ria go get us some PLEASE." He begged looking at Liz silently explaining with his eyes.

"Sure, in the freezer right Liz." Maria said jumping up.

"No we haven't got any here. Go down stairs and get some from the crashdown kitchen though, it's the perk of knowing the owner." Liz joked and Maria shook her head.

"No way. Michael's down there, and I don't wanna see him." Maria stressed.

"Relax his shift doesn't start for ten minutes see." Alex explained showing Maria his watch. "Besides the guy is never on time. Go on, I just came up and I don't have the energy to go back down and up again." Alex continued, and then Maria looked to Liz to find she wasn't there.

"Liz?" Maria questioned.

"She went to the bathroom for a shower. Don't worry he won't be there." He lied and Maria grumbled to herself but headed for the café kitchen mumbling to herself. She pushed open the kitchen door and froze. Michael was stood at the grill with headphones on, music blasting so loud she could hear it from the doorway. Okay, she told herself, I can do this. Besides he probably won't even hear me. She crept quietly over to the freezer and shifted some food around to get to the ice- cream, she pulled out three flavors and closed it over sighing in relief that he hadn't heard her. She made her way over top the door and also made it through when a loud clattering sound cause her to turn around and she noticed that she'd knocked a metal bowl off the table. Michael ripped out his earphones and shot out his hand. Maria's eyes widened as she realized she had been caught and she opened her mouth to speak when he cut her off.

"You scared the hell out of me Maria!"

"Sorry it was an accident." She apologized not really meaning it. She picked up the bowl and placed it back where it was.

"What do you want?" He snapped.

"Relax Michael I don't want anything off you I just came to get some food." She shot back. His face softened as he took in her appearance and took one of surprise when he noticed her hair.

"Suits you." He slipped out pointing at her hair, which she touched in return.

"Thanks." She replied. The two of them just stood there staring at each other for a few seconds then he snapped out of his reverie and turned back to the grill. Maria picked up the tubs of ice- cream and made her way upstairs ready to have a go at Alex.
