Chapter 1
Waterflash rolled his wheelchair to a stop in the great hall, waiting for the evening meal to be served. He was usually quiet now. His only two friends were no longer with him. Tam, the abbey warrior, had been killed by vermin, that Skipper had brought to Redwall. Skipper had turned out to be his brother, Deeprudder, a traitor. Two seasons had passed since then, and Waterflash still was hurt, emotionally and physiccaly. Scars were all over his body from tourture, and the crazy charge he had done at his enemy after Tam had died. He usually kept to himself after that-He didn't want to see another friend get hurt. There were only fifty in the abbey-The rest had been killed in that horrible war. His brothers holt had left, but promised to be back after finding creatures in the woodlands to join the abbey. There still was no abbot-Although many beats wanted Waterflash to be abbot, he had declined. He was in a deep depression, that nothing short of a miracle could bring him out of.

"Father! Pur that dagger down, please!" The cloaked otter was begging at another otter, the one that held a dagger.
"I ain't nobeasts father. Cause you killed my son, traitor!" The knife bit deeper into the first otters skin.
"Father, please! I saved him! He's at Redwall Abbey!"
The knife slackened off a bit. "Where's th' proof in that?"
"I can take you there."
"I can find my own way." The knife was raised up, and the cloaked otter let out one scream, which peirced through the storm, before dying away.
"NOOOOOoooo...."
