A/N: This is my first attempt at fanfiction, so I would appreciate any feedback you might have. Please note: The story will be set in modern times, that's why I chose 2008 for the birth year. Characters in the book will have a few modifications, including Ares, Hera, Artemis, etc. Basically all the gods, titans, and deities, which is why Ares is so out of character. I never liked his behavior anyway. So without further ado, lets get on with the prologue!

Tap, tap, tap. Ares walked up to a river with a newborn baby wrapped in a thin piece of cloth in his arms. "Hey! Wake up you dead puddle of black goo!" Ares said as he inspected the black liquid in disgust.

When nothing happened after a couple of quiet moments Ares bent down and- with one hand- grabbed a small stone and chucked it into the river. When he did not get the desired effect, he repeated the process until he achieved his goal.

Suddenly, a tentacle-shaped blob of black liquid emerged from the water and grabbed his leg. Ares tried resisting the pull into the water but was forced in, still Ares held the baby in his arms all the way until he was submerged into the water.

"What the hell do you think you are doing!" Ares screamed at the river who had yet to show her face while also forgetting the existence of the fragile company he brought. Ares was small minded like that.

"What do you think you are doing?" a voice that seemed to come from nowhere yet everywhere at the same time spoke.

"You come near my river, my domain and expect you can just order me around?" the voice said with conviction and a hint of intrigue.

"Watch yourself!" Ares screamed, "I am war itself, I could desecrate your small puddle in a matter of seconds!".

This did not please the voice inside the river as it proceeded to invade the mind of Ares, running every bit of its consciousness through Ares's. The voice asked but at the same time stated, "So that's why you came here with the child, huh?".

"How dare you pry into my mind!" Ares roared with anger. "I am an Olympian god!" Ares exclaimed. Still not thinking of the child's current condition or safety.

"That means nothing here, this idea you have…I accept, the boy is mine". "Wha-?" Before Ares could finish speaking a single word he was thrown out of the water and then he not so safely landed face first onto the ground.

"Goddamned river spirit…" Ares mumbled right before he heard a squeal escape right beside him. Ares turns his head and looks straight at the child who seems to be unharmed and in one place. "Oh…right, I guess this whole thing has been about you" Ares grumbled as he got up and straightened himself out, with no regard as to how the child remained as safe as he is right now. He quickly but swiftly picked up the child and teleported to the outside world.

Unidentified Foster Home in Manhattan, June 1st, 2008

Ares stood outside the foster home with a look of accomplishment in his eyes, but if you looked deep enough you would see the speck of guilt inside them. Ares quickly abandoned any feeling of guilt that he had with the child that he had left on the doorstep of the foster home. "If there was any one thing that I could give you it would be this" Ares said as he placed his hands over the child's head.

Ares' hand began to glow as he prepared to speak his final words before his departure from the child, "You need not know how to fight because you will not need to, you will lead a normal, useless life and then die much earlier than any other mortal and become a useless slave to that puddle of goo".

"This is because, after all, you are a means to an end" Ares said as he quickly pulled his hand away. He took one more look at the child before quickly teleporting away with the mist covering his tracks. As soon as he left a woman took his place in the same way he exited.

The woman picked up the child and swaddled the baby in her arms, gently caressing his cheek. With the child in hand she teleported away with no evidence to be seen that the child had been there at all.

A/N: That was interesting. Who do you think the "puddle of goo" was as well as the woman who picked him up. I know the prologue is rather short, but I plan to make much longer chapters when I begin the actual story. There will be cursing of course, that's why it is rated "T" for Teen. There will be a few changes to the story of course considering there is an introduction to a new character and a lot of background elements that come into play with him. Anyway, see you next time!
