There had been too many secrets in the life of Remus Lupin. First came the lycanthropy, something to hide from his friends, his neighbours, even relatives that weren't terribly close to the family. Then there was the fact that he was gay – especially hard to hide when you shared a room with four other boys who wouldn't stop talking, talking about their dates with pretty girls, talking about sex and comparing the number of girls they bedded. And talking about how Remus could use a nice girl to distract him from his schoolwork. Except Remus didn't want a girl, and that was his final secret. He wanted a specific person, one of his roommates in fact. The guy who held the Hogwarts record for largest number of valentines received on one day. The guy who was chased by almost every girl with hormones in the school.

Sirius Black.

So many years later, after losing him, then finding him and now losing him again, Remus had never felt so... lost when it came to a secret. He'd never know now, no-one would. And it was for the best really. Some secrets should never be told. But there are still some that should defy what makes it a secret, should not be locked away like James and Lilly Potter in those years beneath the fidelius charm.

Sometimes, you'll never know what could have changed, if you take a chance.
