It took just over three more days for Jack to get his crew near the Dark Bridge. Nobody was sure why it was called the Dark Bridge. It wasn't a bridge but a dark cove, so it would have made more sense to call it the Dark Cave instead of Bridge. However, no one knew much about the place other then the fact that it had treasure, and that one thing in particular had a power. Unsure of what that power was, Jack couldn't wait to find out.
It had been three days since Katie had killed Captain Krash; the Black Pearl's crew had put the dead captain's crew back onto their own ship, with enough food to get them to the nearest port. Katie hadn't come out of the cabin at all in those days; Ana Maria had been with her nearly all the time, except when she was asleep. Katie was coping badly with the fact that someone had died and that she had not only witnessed the murder, she had done it. Oh, and it hadn't helped that she believed all the stories her parents had told her when she was little. Jack hadn't had time to go in and see Katie; he was very busy helping to fix up any part of the ship that had been damaged so they could carry on their way without stopping. Now, Jack had gotten it into his head that, much as he wanted this trip to last a long time, Katie would be better off at home, where there was no chance of her getting hurt mentally or physically. He still regretted letting her above deck during the battle.

Jack took a look around from his place at the helm. He watched as his crew went happily about their work, all of them chipping in a tiny bit more due to Ana Maria's absence. As Jack began to think about how stupid he was for letting Katie get hurt in this way, something caught his eye. Looking towards Katie and Ana Maria's cabin, he noticed Katie at the door watching the crew work, nobody else noticing her.
"Gibbs, take the helm."
"Aye, Cap'n." Jack made his way down to Katie; when he got their he noticed she hadn't even noticed him coming. "Katie." He spoke in such a soft voice that it not only startled him, but Katie as well. Katie looked up at him, making eye contact for about five seconds before diverting her eyes to the ground again. During those short five seconds, Jack had seen what Ana had been talking about. She was one scared girl.
"Come with me." Jack took Katie's arm. Looking into the cabin he saw Ana Maria asleep on the bunk, probably from exhaustion. He himself had heard of one or two of Katie's nightmares these nights, and they didn't sound good. Jack led Katie into the captain's quarters and sat her down on the bed. Katie felt as though she were about to be told off, and she wasn't sure why. Maybe it was because she had kept Ana away from her duties.
"Katie, are you OK?" ** I will not cry I will not cry ** However much Katie willed her self not to cry in front of Jack, she couldn't help it. She broke down in tears and was startled when Jack wrapped his arms around he, hugging her until her tears finally subsided.
"I. . .I keep seeing his face every time I close my eyes. It's horrible . . .Jack . . .I-I killed him. I killed him, but I didn't mean to. I...I don't know what happened, but . . .but" Katie was stuttering her way through the sentences until finally Jack silenced her by putting his finger to her lips. She looked up at him; her eyes were red and bloodshot from crying so much, and Jack felt a pang of emotions come to him. He wasn't sure what it was, but it made him just want to hold her and make her pain go away. However, he stopped himself from hugging her and instead spoke to her in the soft voice he only just found out he had.
"Katie, I know it's hard right now, but eventually his face will go away, and all that you're feeling will go too. Not completely, but it won't be as bad as it is now. You have to remember you did this, because if you hadn't it would be me lying at the bottom of the ocean, not Krash. Ok, so you killed a man, but he was a very bad person." Jack paused; he felt like he was talking to a little child, not a grown woman. But it still seemed to be helping her, as she had another emotion in her eyes now. "He . . .well, let's just say he wouldn't have treated the crew like I treated his. He would have had you all killed, no doubt after raping you and Ana. Maybe even letting some of the men if they were desperate. Whatever you did, and whatever came over you, it was for a very good reason, and I promise you that you shouldn't feel guilty. Hey, you would probably feel worse if he had killed me, and then killed the whole of my crew, knowing that you could have done something to prevent it, Ok?" Katie nodded and mumbled OK.
"So, are you ready to set our little 'adventure' into ad mode?" Katie looked up at Jack with a questioning look on her face, but Jack only grinned. Before Jack got to say anything else, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!" Gibbs entered the cabin, nodding at Katie he spoke to Jack.
"Cap'n we 'av arrived at the Dark Bridge . . .only there's another band of pirates there; we can't see who, but it don't look good . . ."
