A/N: This is the first Het relationship I've written in ages but I really love the pairing.
Hermione liked books, she liked to feel the leather-bound knowledge beneath her hands and trace the carefully printed words with her fingers. She liked the feel of knowledge on her lips and she would swirl a around her mouth before speaking it just to enjoy the feeling. But more than that she liked the security she found within the books, they never snapped or yelled or expected anything from her and she loved them for that.
Ron liked broomsticks. He liked the feeling of smoothness beneath his hands and the gleam of the wood; he liked the smell of the polish and the feel of the Quidditch leathers against his skin. But more than that he liked the feeling of invincibility he had when he was soaring above everyone and he didn't have to be Ron Weasley anymore, he could be whatever he felt like at that moment and nothing would judge him.
So Hermione was rather surprised when, despite all her doubts and her uncertainties, she felt safer on a broom with Ron's arms wrapped around her and his voice in her ear than she'd ever felt on ground.
And Ron was rather more surprised when, sitting in the library, his hand brushed against Hermione's and he felt like he could take on the world if she smiled at him.
But neither of them can explain it, although Hermione thinks she knows, is sure she knows the reason behind it and neither of them is ready to explore the feelings just yet but until then they'll keep each other safe, and they'll keep each other invincible until they're ready to.
