Don't know where this came from, really. Anyways, it's only my second Fullmetal Alchemist fic.
I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist.
Ed stared at his little brother a little longer, before shaking his head.
"Is something the matter, 'niisan?" Al asked, tilting his head to the side a little.
Ed shook his head a quickly, before grinning and giving his little brother the victory sign. His head jerked to the side and he looked at his right arm for a few seconds, before lowering it cautiously. "Just hurry up and get into your pajama's, okay? We've got a lot to do tomorrow, so you need lots of sleep."
Al rose an eyebrow, looking at his brother who was now rotating his wrist. "I guess you're right," he said finally, stripping off his clothes and then looking around for his pajama's. "But are you sure it was okay to not tell Winry and Granny that we're back?"
Ed looked away from his arm and grinned. "Of course it is," he smiled, then flopped back into his bed. "We'll surprise them tomorrow when we bring mom back!"
Al looked uncertain for a moment, before grinning, picking up his pajama's, and slipping them on. "Yeah. If you're sure it'll work..."
"Of course it will work," Ed snapped, then turned away from Al and glared at the wall.
"I'm sorry," Al said quietly, then sat upon his own bed. "Hey, can you tuck me in and tell me a story, 'niisan?" He grinned widely.
Ed looked at him, before sighing. "Mom can do it tomorrow," he said, then sighed heavily again. "Just this once, okay?"
Al smiled, and Ed got up and walked over to his brother, who laid down quickly.
Ed took the covers, and pulled them up to his brothers shoulders, smiling slightly. "Once, there were two boys who attempted the impossible. Everyone said that it couldn't be done, and they were crazy for trying it, but they did anyway."
"Why?" Al asked, blinking his big, innocent golden-coloured eyes at his brother.
"Because they had something that they had lost, and they really wanted to get it back," Ed explained impatiently. "Now be quiet and let me finish the story."
"Okay," Al said, and he closed his eyes.
"So, they got everything ready and together, just the two of them, tried it. There was a light and..."
---
"... the three of them lived happily ever – Al, are you listening to me?" Ed looked at his little brother, bathed in the pale white light of the moon that shone through the window. "Al?"
He took his brothers shoulder and shook him. Al mumbled something quietly, and rolled over onto his side.
Ed smiled, leaned down, and kissed his brothers temple. "Good night, Al. We'll see mom tomorrow, okay?" he said quietly, before getting up and going to his own bed.

That night he couldn't sleep. He couldn't stop thinking about the huge, menacing shadow that he had seen behind his brother or the silvery sheen that seemed to shine off his right arm earlier that night.
