Author's Note: I realize that John and Monica weren't in Washington at the time of "Millenium," but like I've said before, it's my story. I'll do what I want with it. This is hypothetical.

Millenium: John and Monica Style

It was New Year's Eve 1999. The snow was falling, the wind was blowing, and people were gathering in Central Park for the big ball drop.

Back in Washington, D.C, John Doggett and Monica Reyes were busy at their separate jobs in the FBI, but the evening would be spent together.

They were having a New Year's bash, and a group of friends would be coming to celebrate the beginning of a new millenium. Monica's boyfriend, Brad Follmer, was out of town on a case, so he would not be there to ring in the new year.

5 o'clock rolled around, and John made his way to Monica's office. He knocked on her door, and she opened it, smiling.

"Hey, John."

"Hey, Mon, you ready to go?"

"Sure. Let me grab my coat, and we can head on out." They walked to John's car together, and made their way to his apartment to set up for the party.

"Alright, who's coming?" Monica asked once they arrived at his apartment.

"I don't know. Nobody knew for sure if they could make it or not, so we could have a small gathering or a massive crowd, depending."

"I hope it's not the latter," Monica laughed. "Your apartment's not that big!"

They chatted the rest to his apartment door, then made their way inside. John checked his answering machine and discovered none of his friends could make it.

"Bad news," Monica suddenly said, walking into the living room. "My friends are stuck on assignment for the night."

"Yeah, my buddies have family plans," John added. "Looks like it's just us."

"I guess so." Monica was worried about this. She was supposed to be dating Brad, but she kept thinking about John. She felt she knew him more intimately than Brad, and found herself wanting to be with John more and more.

"Well, we can at least watch the ball drop on TV," Monica said after a short pause.

"And at least we aren't alone," John pointed out. "But, come on, let's get into the holiday spirit." With that statement, he pulled out a bottle of champagne, and two wineglasses.

"Ooh, festive," Monica laughed. He handed her a glass and they clinked them together in cheers…

11:30…

"And so, then, Brad pulled out his badge, and yelled, 'FBI!'" Monica gasped, laughing hysterically.

"You're kidding," John said.

"No! It was so embarassing," she confirmed. She took another sip for her glass, then pointed to the TV. "It's almost time for the ball to drop!"

John turned the TV on and they watched Dick Clark in Central Park and the millions of people milling about.

Soon, it was time for the countdown. "Here it goes, folks," Dick Clark's voice said. "10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1. Happy New Year 2000! It's the new millenium, everyone!" "Auld Lang Syne" started playing and numerous couples were shown kissing.

John turned to Monica and said, "Happy New Year, Monica."

"Happy New Year, John," she replied, smiling. Suddenly, John leaned in and kissed Monica gently. He started to pull away, but Monica gripped his head and kissed him fiercely back. This continued for some time, leading to removal of clothes and a mutual visit to John's bedroom.

The next morning, John woke up next to Monica, and had never felt happier. She woke up, rolled over, and smiled at him.

"What a way to ring in the millenium, huh?" she quipped.

"The best," John responded. He kissed her once again, and vowed to begin every new year the same as this one.
