Hello, once again I rummaged through the archives and dug up this story. I never finished writing it, but you might want to read the first few chapters of it at least. It was a bit of a waste for the digital bin. If you want, you can leave a comment. :) Have a good reading time.

1. Restless Mood

Annoyed, Rango took his sunscreen out of the saddlebag. Again he was threatened with sunburn on his hands. Although, he was already standing in the shadow. He had retired to the desert with his roadrunner to blow away the cobwebs. Now he was standing under a large rock and staring straight ahead with a somber expression. The morning had started so good. Now he was just annoyed and just wanted to be left alone. Only a few hours ago, he and Beans had had a little argument and they hadn't ended peacefully.

Rango sighed and put the sunscreen back after applying enough sunscreen to his hands. He hated falling out with Beans. Though that was very rare, he always felt sorry when they disagreed. And Beans always tried to assert her stubbornness, so that he hardly had a chance with his arguments. Dejectedly, Rango took off his hat and fanned himself cool air. Maybe he could make it up to her after all.

He waved his roadrunner over. "Come on, boy. Let's ride back home. I'm sure she's calmed down."

With these words, he swung himself up and steered the animal towards the town.

They had just arrived in the town entrance when Rango immediately noticed that something was wrong. There was a commotion in the air. His instinct felt it exactly. He slowed the roadrunner's pace and rode on cautiously. An uncomfortable feeling rose in his stomach. Why this unrest?

When they had passed the first houses in town, he heard hurried footsteps coming towards him.

"Sheriff Rango, Sheriff Rango!" Waffles shouted excitedly, frantically waving his arms in the air.

Rango stopped. "What happened?"

"Sheriff Rango!" Waffles repeated and stopped panting in front of him. "Sheriff Rango..."

"It's okay," Rango interrupted him. "What is it?"

"I just heard it. Just now."

Rango raised his eyes to the sky. "What on earth happened?"

"Jake is dead!"

"WHAT!?" Rango stared at Waffles in disbelief.

"Yes, yes!" Waffles insisted on his statement. "I heard it exactly."

"By whom?"

"From Bill. He told it in the saloon."

Rango's face darkened. Hadn't he told Bill to stay out of town?

"Is he still there?"

Waffle nodded. "Oh yeah. Would you like to hear the news, too?"

"If not, I'll beat the truth out of him," Rango murmured darkly.

He jumped off the roadrunner and made a beeline for the saloon.

Waffles looked after him questioningly. "Uh… I didn't understand that."
