"Maura, somebody is trying to kill you! You need to be reasonable!"
Maura Isles looked at Jane standing in the middle of the squad room, hands on hips. She knew what the detective was saying was right, but she hated it. She hated that her life had been turned upside down for the last month. She hated that her car had been totaled after she was forced off the road. She hated that a poisonous snake had been placed in her mailbox. And most of all, she hated that Angela had been attacked while doing a dry cleaning pick-up for her.
Sighing, she relented. "What do you suggest? You've already figured out whoever is behind this is in prison, and you are with me 24/7." She bit her upper lip. "Would you feel better if I hired a bodyguard? Boris?"
Jane scrunched her face up. "NO!...maybe. I mean...yeah, maybe." Jane rubbed her forehead. She looked at Frankie and Korsak. "What do you think?"
Korsak looked between the two women. "I don't think it can hurt." Frankie nodded in agreement. "Maura, Jane, you both know this is serious, and you both know you can't go on like this."
As Maura was about to speak, Angela came walking into the squad room. Her eye was black, her arm was in a sling.
"Do it, Maura. If not for you, then for me." She looked at Jane. "Janie, you can't keep burning the candle at both ends."
Seeing the damage that had been done to Angela, Maura relented.
"Ok."
Jane waited for Maura and her mother to get into the elevator before speaking.
"Korsak, Frankie, is everything set up?"
Both men looked at each other and then the ground. "Jane, Ma is going to freak out."
Korsak added, "So is Maura."
Exasperated, Jane threw her arms out. "Do you have any other suggestions, because I don't. I am not going through this again. Alice Sands was enough." She took a step toward them both. "Ma and Maura will get over it."
Everybody, including Jane, looked dubious.

Next Morning
Jane Rizzoli awakened to the intent stare of Maura Isles. Since the snake incident, Janr had been sleeping at Maura's. After a difficult night on the couch, Maura had made he sleep in the spare bedroom. After Angela was attacked, Jane had sent her mother to Frankie and Nina's and she had moved into Maura's bed.
It was no big deal as thgey had slept in the same bed before. But Jane rarely slept through the night. Last night however, she had slept like the dead, which is how Maura knew something was up.
"What are you doing, Maura?"
Maura cocked her head. "The question Jane, is what have you done or are about to do?"
Jane considered her response. She opened then closed her mouth twice before she opted for the truth.
Sitting up in bed, she took a deep breath and started.
"We know from the guy who attacked Ma that he was hired specifically to attack you and Ma was just the wrong person in the right place. The person who hired him paid him through a few dummy accounts, the last of which we tracked down to a guy you helped me put away. He was hired anonymously from somebody in state prison. Te women's prison." Jane shrugged. "So..."
Maura jumped off the bed. "You are going undercover in state prison?"
Jane's head dropped. Before she could answer, Angela burst in.
"Do it Jane."
Both women looked at Angela.
"Ma?"
"Jane it doesn't matter what I say, you are going to do this. I have to trust you know what you are doing and that God will take care of you. This time is different. This time it is personal. Maura is under attack." She looked at Maura. "They come for one of us, they come for all of us."
Maura nodded. "You better get a move on. I assume you will be in prison orange soon?"

Next Day
Jane hugged her mother and Maura goodbye, and gave Boris a firm handshake.
Leaning into him she whispered,"Anything happens to them..." She squeezed his hand extra hard before continuing, "I will fuck you up. Understand?"
Boris weakly nodded and rubbed his hand as Jane made her way to Frankie.
"Frankie, you keep an eye on them, ok?" Frankie nodded. "Keep me posted."
She got into the car with Korsak and didn't look back as they drove off.
"Jane, I know I don't need to say this, but be careful. This is not the county jail and you're going to be there a whole lot longer than two days."
Jane nodded. "Keep an eye on Boris, make sure he does his job."
The rest of the ride was silent. Once they reached the intake bus, Jane gave Korsak a nod, and found her guard contact. Soon she was boarding the bus and was on her way to Statesville Prison.
As she left the bus and went through processing, she had to make the long walk down the cell block. There were whistles, cat calls and shouts of "fresh meat."
Jane ignored them and began to settle into her cell.
It wasn't long before three women appeared at her cell door.
"Fresh meat, what's your name?"
Jane cut her eyes in the direction of the trio. "Nunyo. As in none yo business."
Before she knew what was happening, the one she assumed to be the leader of the pack, had her by the neck, and was trying to push her up against the wall of the cell. Jane planted her heel into the instep of the woman, who immediately yelped and slapped Jane.
Before Jane could defend herself, a guard appeared. "Johnson, knock it off!" The guard, who was one of Jane's contacts, tried to touch her red cheek.
"Smythe, you ok?"
Jane, answering to her undercover name, nodded. "Yeah, I was choking and she was helping me." Jane looked at the woman. "Thanks...?"
"Claudia."
As the guard left, Claudia moved toward Jane. "Fresh meat, why you do that?" When Jane didn't answer, she pushed her. "I said, why you do that?"
Jane shrugged. "Not looking for trouble. Now, do you mind?"
Claudia licked her upper lip.
"I feel you." She looked at Jane more appreciatively. "Listen, you need anything, I can get it." Running her tongue along her upper lip, she leaned in close to Jane. "I'd be willing to take it out in trade."
She leaned in and licked the side of Jane's neck before retreating.
Talking to herself, Jane mumbled, "Well that was fun."
A/N: I am having a revision surgery on my thrice broken left leg on Monday. It may be a few days before an update is published.
