A Window to the Past
Summary: Harry and co. pay tribute to Sirius
Disclaimer: I'm not brilliant enough to have come up with these characters... they're all J.K. Rowling's.... The song is from a Sirius Black memorial site"Remember in your hearts, a brave, courageous man, remember Sirius Black." Finished Dumbledore as everyone raised their glasses in reverence.
But Harry couldn't take it anymore and bolted out of the Dining Hall of Grimmauld Place.
He ran and ran and didn't stop till he was far away from everything. Harry didn't notice it till now, but he'd run into Sirius' room. He let the tears fall free as he looked about the room.
Find myself all alone
in darkness without you
now I can't turn away
From what I must do
"I never even told him how much he meant to me" Harry thought as he looked at the photos Sirius had on his bedside table. There was one that was taken at Christmas with just Harry and Sirius, beaming up at Harry through the picture. As the picture Sirius gave Harry a small hug, Harry's breath got hitched in his throat.
Looking around the room still, a piece of parchment caught Harry's eye. He picked it up and saw it was for him.
Dear Harry, If you're reading this, it means I'm dead. But remember this,
You know I'd give my life for you
more than words can say
I've shown you how to love someone
I know you'll find a way
I'll live on somewhere in your heart
you must believe
Remember me...
I also hope I didn't just snuff it in my sleep; I hope I died, worthy to be remembered. Harry, I never had much of a chance to say this after you went back to Hogwarts but I love you like a son. I would never dream of taking James' place in your life Harry, but I feel safe to say that in the short time both of us knew you, you made us more proud than words can explain. Please look after Remus and yourself.
Love Always,
Padfoot.
Underneath the letter, was the trademark footprint of Padfoot. Thinking of the letter again, Harry realised that at least one of Sirius' wishes had been fulfilled. He didn't snuff it in his sleep, but died a hero's death.
"But he shouldn't have died at all..." thought Harry, "and now he'll never even know that he's free..."
As his tears dried, Harry realised that he should probably go back to the Dining Hall.
Hugging the letter close to his chest, Harry silently vowed that he would avenge his parents' and Sirius' death, he would make Voldemort pay and he would do anything and everything in his power, to protect those he loved.
