Some people say that love is blind, but Hyuuga Neji knows love is no match for his Byakugan. Neji sees things, he does, things that sometimes he doesn't want to see, sometimes things that he does.
He sees the way Lee feels, he knows that he is Lee's "special person", and that means that Lee will protect him with every ounce of energy he possesses, no matter what. He knows that Lee fancies himself a "Knight in Shining Armor" (thought he's really more of a "Flunky in Green Spandex"), and will sooner give his own life than watch Neji die.
And Neji doesn't like that, doesn't like that at all because it makes him feel a bit too weak, even though he knows he can pound Lee into the ground without breaking a sweat. Neji doesn't like the thought of anyone but himself getting hurt, even when he tries to make it appear as though he doesn't really care. Neji does not need protection, because Neji is strong, and he wants to pound that fact into Lee's thick, thick skull with a heavy, blunt object.
But he doesn't, and he won't, because sometimes it's nice to know that someone cares.
