It Can Work For You!

Not mine.. Not even Ian, unfortunately. You know whose they are.
My first attempt at humor.. Got the idea and couldn't resist. Hope the fans of my more serious work aren't disappointed.. :)

Chapter 3- Visualize A New Image Of Yourself
-'Now you are ready to change your outer self. True peace and emotional happiness begin inside, but once begun, must spread to the outer self as well. Break free of the bonds of the usual and give yourself the new image you've always longed for but never dared to attempt!'
Part One
Ian comes away from his encounter with Sara well satisfied.
He expressed his emotions to her, and she excepted them. That means they really DO belong together, and she is beginning to realize this, too.
Just as the book promised- she is seeing the positive side of his inner self.
Ian walks up the steps of the mansion, tired but happy. It is the first time he can remember actually feeling that emotion- happiness.
Such a simple word, but he could never have imagined the feeling it conveys.
He feels capable of anything.
Once inside, he takes his coat off and sinks down on the couch, pulling the small yellow book out of his pocket. Opening it to Chapter 3, he scans the first paragraph.
Change his outer self? Ian feels a shiver of anxiety. He has tried that once before and the results were anything but positive.
Sara didn't like the new him, and after a while, he had given up on it and gone back to his original style of dress.
But... The book hasn't let him down yet. He owes it to whoever sent him this gift to at least TRY.
Straightening his shoulders, he reads on.
A few minutes later, he closes the book, picks up his coat again and walks out of the mansion.
Two hours later...
Ian walks back up the mansion steps. He has two shopping bags, one in each hand. He is tired and hungry, but first, he carefully puts away his purchases. Tomorrow, he will test them out on Sara.
Walking into the large master bathroom, he peers at himself in the mirror. Wide brown eyes stare back at him.
His outer self looks nervous.
'Don't worry,' he says aloud. 'I'm not going to TOUCH the hair.'
He's seen how Sara looks at it, when she thinks he doesn't notice.
It's his best asset. Well, one of them, anyway.
Leaving the bathroom, he enters the kitchen and microwaves himself a bowl of shrimp flavored ramen noodles. He eats hungrily, standing by the sink, then washes out his bowl and spoon, dries them and returns them to the cupboard.
Finished, he brushes his teeth and retires to his personal room.
It is the same one that he had before Irons.. went away. He just doesn't feel comfortable in the master bedroom, even though the mansion now belongs to him.
Lying down on his pallet, he folds his hands behind his head and relaxes his muscles one by one. Usually this is a surefire trick for falling asleep, but tonight it doesn't work.
He is too excited to sleep.
What will Sara think when she sees the new him? Will she like it?
Finally he gives up, gets out of bed and pads barefoot into the living room. Turning on the television, he slips a video into the VCR.
Static races in madly wavering lines across the blackness. Then, a herd of gazelles appear, running madly. Out of the cloud of dust behind them gallops a leopard, muscles rippling fluidly as the big cat bounds after its prey.
Ian sighs and leans back, his eyes locked on the TV screen.
He always enjoys Wild Discovery.
