Christmas with the Grangers
by Lady Ryu
Mr. Granger stood back and admired his work. He had successfully installed 17 pink lawn flamingoes in his front yard. He adorned the house with gold icicle lights, which Hermione frowned upon.
"Papa, gold is so boring!" She sighed, waved her wand, and recited,
"Lumos Azure!" There was a flash and the golden lights turned into a lovely shade of neon blue. She smiled,
"That's better." She went back in the house and Mr. Granger waved at the flying Ford Anglia of Mr. Arthur Weasley. It was invisible and reappeared when it landed in the driveway. Out poured the redheaded family and Harry. Mrs. Weasley was carrying three large packages, sweaters of course. Mr. Weasley shook hands with Mr. Granger.
"Good day sir." Arthur said happily. He nearly leapt for joy when he saw the pink flamingoes sticking out of the yard.
"I say dear boy. I did not know you could grow pink birds in your front yard. Fascinating!"
Granger put an arm around Weasley.
"Oh no, it's decoration. See," he said pulling one out and putting it back in.
"Now tell me John, what are those severed vines with glowing bulbs for?" Arthur asked.
"Arthur, it's all for decoration. They're called Christmas tree lights and people sometimes put them on their houses for people to see them."
"Oh I'd love to get some of those. " John Granger led Mr. Weasley to the garage.
"I have some I can give you." The men walked away chatting happily. In the house the Weasleys took over the couches and Hermione served them hot chocolate with mini marshmallows with warm chocolate chip cookies right from the oven.
"Oh Jane, I do love what you did with the house." Mrs. Weasley said admiring the tree and the stockings.
"I didn't do a thing, except put up new curtains, the other ones were blocking out too much sun. It was like we were in the dark!" Mrs. Weasley nodded. Hermione had gone to her room before they arrived and brought down her presents she had bought especially for Harry and Ron. There was a large stack of presents in the corner for the Weasleys and one stack for Harry. However, hers were extra special. She handed one to Harry and the other one to Ron.
"Well go on, open it!" she urged. Harry tried to remove the paper and tape carefully apart while Ron on the other hand torn off the paper fiercely. Ron grabbed and kissed Hermione on the lips, which made their mothers pause in awe, the twins snickered after their jaws dropped and Harry and Ginny laughed aloud.
"Ron!" Hermione said embarrassed and affectionately. She had given him a new wand to replace the one that had snapped when they were attacked by the Whomping Willow when they snuck out of the castle to go on a nightly walk together."
"Picked it up from Olivander's. He gave you the 8-¾ in. with dragon's claw and faerie wings. You're welcome." Ron had a huge grin plastered on his rosy face.
"Wait till Snape sees me next year!" Harry slid the paper off. He wanted to kiss her too. He gasped a "Thank You". She had given him a set of autographed World Quidditch Cup team cards. She had Victor Krum, Aidan Lynch, Quigley, Troy, and Zograf sign them under a false pretense that she was the president of all of their fan clubs.
After dinner they all sat around the warm fire in the living room, sang Christmas carols and the Weasleys and Harry finally headed back to the Burrow. Hermione looked sadly out of the window as she saw Ron's face disappear as the enchanted car flew off into the clouds. She had missed him already. In the car, Harry looked out of the window and smiled. That was the happiest Christmas he ever had and he felt like he was home.
