Names

name(noun) a word, term, or phrase by which somebody or something is known and distinguished from other people or things

I don't mind, really. I've grown accustomed to having people flee when my name is mentioned; it's not as painful as it used to be. Not every man can boast having such a large bounty accredited to their name. The weight of that money which dangles from my name makes it heavy so that I am reluctant to speak it.

Nicholas.

You're confessional can offer me no comfort, no sort of relief. Though I have committed no sins, no heinous crimes, I still feel as if every scrape, every death or broken bone that is in some way connected to me is etched in my skin. I've grown weary of the pain.

Nick.

My name has come to define who I am. I envy you. You're name is not well known, but if it is muttered in a bar no fingers flex as they move to grip a gun, mother's do not use you name to scare children into obedience.

D.

Would you be upset if I borrowed your name? Would I cause less destruction if I bore a different title? Would it change who I am?

Wolfwood.

The insurance girls, kind as they are, seek me out due to my name. They have met me, spent time in my company, yet still, it is because of my name that they chase after me, follow my treacherous path. It seems that my names haunts me, nips my heels with more conviction than my past hounds me.

Nicholas Wolfwood.

And you? Do you follow me because of my name, or is it something else that drives you to spend time with me? My brother searches for me not because of my name but due to the blood we share, which is perhaps even worse. Those that believe my name defines me recognize me because of my name, which my actions, however unintentional they are, has made infamous, fear me because of that which I have done, not because of who I am related too. But what of you? Is your reason more honorable?

Nick Wolfwood.

You have a strong name. Do you begrudge me my name, as I do yours? No, you're wiser than that. You understand what my name entails. If you were to call yourself by my name people would be frightened by you instead of me. But even if you were to offer to trade names I would be forced to decline.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood.

Would you mind terribly if I followed your name with an, "I love you?" Would you do the same with mine?
