"Yes sir, I'll be right up to help. I know, so I'll be an hour or so. See you when I get there, bye."
Her hair was blonde and twenty-three year-old Tori Hanson was on her way to her friend's house. He died, car accident. Right in front of the house too. Her blue eyes shimmered with tears.
She hopped in her van and headed to her hometown of Blue Bay Harbour. Hunter Bradley, the man she only knew for a couple years, unlike the rest of them, Cam, Shane and Dustin. Blake was Hunter's younger brother.
Tori got out of the car and walked up the front doors of Hunter's house. There was a man standing there. He was the policeman she had spoken with earlier. She had only left the town a year before but all of her friends kept in touch, including the one who died.
"Miss Hanson, would you mind going through some old boxes and stuff? No one else wanted to and they suggested you."
"Since no one else will do it." Tori half smiled.
"They're in the bedroom, on the bed. Possibly, could you go through the desk and dressers as well?"
"Why not?" She whispered.
"If you need me, I'll be at the station, cleaning out some files." The policeman said then left her alone in the house.
Tori sat down on the crimson bed. The man, who was once invincible, had been killed by a drunk driver. She let a few tears out of her eyes; the thought of never hearing him call her again drove her to sadness.
She started to root through boxes of junk that had once been in the basement and attic. She pulled out a blue teddy bear, she had given it to him when they first met, being the nice person she was, thinking he needed something for him to get used to. Blake received one too but he was still alive. The officer had told her that she could have anything she wanted so she took the bear.
After a few more boxes of old motocross gear and pictures of random things, Tori finished. She had packed the stuff into fewer boxes and taped them up to be sent to Blake. He had gone on a vacation for a few weeks to race in Europe.
She opened the nightstand drawer and found an old velvet box. Underneath it was a piece of folded paper. She opened it and began to read.
Dear Tori,
How's life in the new town, we all miss you here in Blue Bay but no one more than me. I probably should have told you this before you left but I didn't want to ruin the moment. Tori, I love you. Now you know, I just hope I can tell you for real before I'm dead.
She giggled slightly at the irony and let some tears flow.
I hope you come back some day and we can spend some time together, just you and me, no interruptions, maybe I'll teach you to ride and you can teach me how to surf. Anyway, can't wait to talk to you next time I call. Miss you already.
Love always,
Hunter
"Why did I move without talking to him, it probably killed him." Tori muttered, giggling again at her choice of words. She would miss him. She opened the box and found a ring inside. It was a diamond with sapphires on either side. It was a sliver band and she slipped it on her finger. Thinking what could have been if she stuck around. After thinking awhile, Tori decided to move back, stay in touch with Shane, Dustin, Cam and Blake. Spend some precious time with them. Nothing is more precious than time, except love but Tori's hopes were drowning for true love.
It was gone, along with the man who loved her.
