(Well hi everyone, I got my new glasses today, and then I read chapters 9 and 10 of tears like rain and chapter 10 made me cry, it was so sad. Oh and I have more proof that Lauren is evil, the previous Friday she was at the leisure centre with my sister and she hit my sister's finger with a weight causing said finger to swell up and go purple, then the Monday after this happened she kept annoying my sister by saying 'manky finger yuck'. She also told us that when she was younger one of her favourite hobbies was chasing the ducks and now she has moved on to chasing pigeons. Anywho, on with the chapter.)
Sometime in the middle of the night I awoke to hear the sound of someone moving next to me, looking up I saw that it was Frodo and that he was following Galadriel, giving Elanor a quick shove to wake her up, we got up. We then woke up the other girls and set off silently, well quietly, well in a manner reminiscent of several herds of mumakil but hey lets not split hairs.
We arrived at the mirror just in time to see Frodo go flying backwards, well any hopes of remaining hidden were spoilt there as we all started laughing at the clumsy hobbit, Lauren especially found this funny having never seen the film before and she takes especial delight in anything that hurts, embarrasses or in any other way causes annoyance to any members of the fellowship and other characters from Tolkien.
The lady looked up and saw us standing at the top of the stairs laughing, she beckoned for us to come down, and we started making our way down the steps. Somehow, and believe me this had nothing to do with me sticking my foot in front of her legs, Lauren managed to trip and roll the rest of the way down the stairs screaming but other than this mild event we made it to the bottom without anything else happening.
"I imagine that you would like to look in the mirror" she said, smiling at us,
"Elin, do I want to look in this mirror? It won't try to burn me or anything?" Lauren asked my sister worriedly. Before my sister could answer I said
"Nah, don't worry Lauren, in fact unlike all your other mirrors this one wont even crack."
"I wanna look in the mirror" cried Elanor, "pick me, pick me!"
"I'd like to as well" I said bouncing up and down excitedly. Diddins Lauren and Elin declined, so Elanor stepped forward first.
Megan's thoughts
A little nervously I stepped towards the mirror, I really didn't have a clue what I would see, but I wasn't about to pass up on a chance to look in the mirror of Galadriel, I wasn't that stupid, maybe, possibly, probably.
Anyway, I gazed down at the water and after about a minute of showing nothing but the stars above me the water swirled round suddenly, actually it was a lot like how I would imagine the pensieve in Harry Potter to look but let's not go in to that.
All of a sudden a picture appeared before my eyes, the world was dark but I could see men, no elves waking up and looking around themselves in amazement. Wow I was seeing the waking of the elves, how cool, the first mortal to see it! Then the picture changed again. This time I saw two shiny trees, then out of the blue a giant spider appeared and I gasped before realising that it was Ungoliant and I was seeing the devouring of the trees of the Valar. Rapidly the picture changed yet again, I burst out laughing at the picture that flashed before my eyes, it showed Megan leaping, in an incredibly stupid way might I add, into her cupboard, thinking this to be her falling into middle earth I waited for her to disappear, but instead she just crashed into something inside the cupboard and her legs flailed around wildly for a minute or two. Oh no, I thought, does this mean we are going to go back again, I hope not, I'm enjoying myself here. Then almost as suddenly as it had first appeared the picture vanished and once more all I could see was the reflection of the stars again.
Elanor's (and co.) thoughts
Megan stepped away from the mirror and eagerly I walked forwards, wondering what it was I'd see. Well I gazed into the mirror and saw. . . nothing but the reflection of the stars, stupid mirror, I thought, it must be broken, I was about to whack it in the hope of causing it to work when it swirled wildly in front of my eyes, making me feel incredibly dizzy. Then the first picture appeared before my face, I saw an orc carrying a person, squinting I looked closer at the captive and let out a triumphant cheer as I realised who it was, yay it was Lauren! Then I saw that two more orcs, carrying similar bundles had appeared next to the first, this time I swore as I saw that these captives were Diane and Elin. Then the pictured changed in a flash, this time I saw someone leaping after a winged beast, grabbing hold of its tale and disappearing, creature and all in a flash of light. Now that was strange, I don't remember any part of middle earth's history that told of a person foolish enough to try and catch a winged beast. But then middle earth is a strange place. The next thing I saw seemed to be Elin being berated by a bunch of security guards, one of whom seemed to be holding an orcs hand? How bizarre, these have got to be the strangest visions any one has ever seen in the mirror. Finally I saw a strangely familiar black tunnel with flashing lights, before the mirror cleared itself in another dizzifying swirl of colour.
Stepping away from the mirror I turned to see Frodo offering Galadriel the ring, she did her whole shall I be evil, shan't I be evil part and then held her hand and showed us. . .
"Nenya" I squealed leaping towards the ring and trying to pull it off her finger. Sadly my sister and Elanor managed to hold me back, and they managed to grab Diane as well as she seemed to have been thinking along the same lines of mine. Only she had screamed butterfly bait instead of Nenya but you know yet again lets not split hairs.
After Galadriel had finished her speaking to Frodo part we all traipsed back, Frodo looked slightly put out by us interrupting him and Galadriel, Ooooh I think someone has a crush. Yawning heavily of all six of us walked back to our couches and fell asleep almost as soon as our heads touched the rather hard pillows.
Well yet again I was woken, several hours later, to the sound of someone moving, this time however I saw that it was the male part of the fellowship and they seemed to be preparing to leave as quietly as possible.
"Hey" I screamed, loudly enough to wake the still sleeping other girls, jumping up I asked accusingly
"You weren't thinking of leaving us here were you now?"
Legolas muttered something that sounded suspiciously like damn, foiled again before replying
"No of course not Megan, we were just being considerate and letting you sleep late. All the time you spent last night annoying elves must really have tired you out."
"Not to mention looking in the mirror of Galadriel" I said, nodding my head in thanks to what he said.
"What?" he asked in shock, "you snuck up to look in the mirror of Galadriel! That is really wrong. Anyway, I thought you knew everything that has happened and will happen."
"Firstly elf boy" I said, not liking what he was implying, I mean I never do anything mean or untrustworthy, I've been a perfect little angel this whole trip. "I had permission to look in the mirror by Galadriel herself I'll thank you not to accuse people, and secondly waffle head (A/N I'm sorry Laura, I know I stole that insult from your story but it just seemed to fit in so well with the moment) secondly I know every thing that happens to the fellowship, but I wanted to see if it would give me any implication of whether I was going to get home or not. Sheesh I hope your nicer on Valinor, I suppose its just stress from the quest and everything"
Gnashing his head together Legolas turned away, once more muttering the now all too familiar phrase that I had been hearing for most of my journey,
"Amin n'rangwa edanea" (I dont understand these humans)
Snickering lightly to myself I turned away, smiled at Elanor who had been grinning at the exchange, removed a butterfly from out of Diane's grasp, kicked Lauren and said called my sister evil. (Family joke, I'll explain at the bottom of the page to anyone who cares) as I expected that remark caused my sister to attempt to rugby tackle me but I just dodged her and started packing my stuff.
Soon we were all ready to leave and we walked down to the river bank where we were met by a group of elves. These group included Haldir who glared at Elanor and I as we approached, this didn't really have much affect on us as we both just started snickering.
However the garments that each elf was carrying shut both of us up, at least it did till we started squealing in excitement.
"Yay, elvish cloaks, gimme gimme gimme." We cried leaping towards the articles of clothing, only to be grabbed by Aragorn and Boromir, both of whom muttered in our ears about being polite and not snatching. Grumbling we watched eagerly as the elves walked down the row handing us our cloaks in turn. Despite what the men had said about not snatching, the elves that approached Elanor and me found themselves relieved of their burdens with astonishing speed.
Well after we had put the cloaks on Haldir started rambling on about how we must be high in the lady's favour indeed for her to have given us these cloaks. I wasn't really listening though, I was to busy ooohing and ahhing over my pretty leaf brooch, I had always wanted one of them but they cost so much on Tolkientown.net that I have yet to get round to buying one. Finally we got into the boats and calling out farewell to the elves we rounded the corner, paddling furiously in our boats, only to practically collide into the swan boat of Galadriel.
Luckily Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir and Diane, all of whom were steering the boats they were in managed to avoid hurting the pretty boat…ship. (Sorry, quoting POTC) the lady led us to an island in the middle of the river and curiously, well Elanor, me and Elin weren't curious, we knew what was going to happen, the fellowship got out to stand before her.
Well she said something to the extent of, you haven't eaten a meal with us yet, come and we will eat now, and so we started eating lots of yummy food. When we had finished we quickly cleared away the remains and then Galadriel stepped forward with a large bundle, yay I thought to myself, finally I got to see what present she had given me. I mean not that I was being greedy or anything, but I really wanted to know what I would get.
First she went and gave the real fellowship there presents. A bow and arrows for Legolas, a sheath and a green gem for Aragorn, a golden belt for Boromir, who I noticed seemed nicer to the lady after that, wonder why. She then gave silver versions of Boromir's belt to the two younger hobbits, the light of Earendil to Frodo and a little grey box with a G on it to Sam. (A/N I refuse to say that she gave him rope, rope, pfft, what a stupid present, I mean I know it comes in useful later on but he has It anyway then, why should he miss out on getting a proper present) anyway then her and Gimli had there mushy little scene where he gets given three hairs instead of one, and then she turned to us.
I managed to contain my squeal, but it was a bit pointless really, seeing as how she knows what I was thinking but there you go.
First, she gave Elanor two dirks; they were very pretty and also had her name in the Feanorien script painted on it in much a similar way to her sword. Elanor's face lit up like a Christmas tree.
(Elanor: Stupid expression, even on earth were we have Christmas trees. Okay, I'll stop being me now.)
Then she gave Lauren a delicately wrought necklace made from mithril, on which hung a crystal flower, like the one on Nenya. To Elin she gave a bracelet, made from silver and studded with brightly shining diamonds all the way round. To Diddins she also gave a necklace, the chain of which was much same as Laurens, but instead of a flower a butterfly was suspended from the links. A butterfly that was studded with numerous brightly coloured gems. Diane squealed when she saw it, but unlike all the other butterflies that she had managed to catch she refrained from decapitating this one and instead put it on her neck.
Finally she came to me and held out her hand, in it was…Nenya? she was giving me Nenya, was she allowed to do that. Reading my thoughts the elf smiled and said.
"Nay Megan, I am not giving you
Nenya, this is but a replica, it does not have the power of the real thing but
I'm sure you'll find it just as pretty." Squealing in a way incredibly
reminiscent of the way Diane had just before, I put the ring on and started
bouncing around happily.
(Elanor: Squealing "pretty, pretty, pretty!" Don't forget that.)
After thanking the lady for her kindness and generosity we finally left the island and clambered into our boats, ready to continue our journey down the river. As we were leaving I shivered suddenly as I remembered my vision, I wouldn't really mind if Lauren got captured, but Diane is my friend and Elin is my sister, so if my vision came true I wouldn't like it. However if they are captured at the same time as Merry and Pippin I can see no reason why they shouldn't escape, and there is no sense in worrying. Turning my attention to less stressful things, such as splashing Legolas with water from my oar every chance I got, I stopped dwelling on the uncertain, and concentrated instead on enjoying myself.
(A/N, ok that's the end of this chapter, hope it didn't bore you to much, I like the gifts that I thought up personally.
The explanation for calling my sister evil- recently my brother discovered that a sure fire way to annoy my sister is to call her evil, so now he spends hours on end walking round the house saying things like "Elin is so evil that if Sauron, Saruman, Voldemort, Bin Laden and Saddam Hussain met her in an alleyway the would all run away screaming like little girls." Now personally I can't see that as being to annoying but it works every time on her. Toodles.)
