Manta watched as Yoh traiened, Amidamaru floating not to far behind. A faint blush crossed his face as he looked away. "Yeah, right. He's too good for me," he thought, then sighed while sitting down on the porch. "Besides... There're other fish in the sea. Tamao... An..." He cut himself off, remembering what Anna was like, and that she was already engaged. "Well, not Anna. But maybe Pirika or Horo..." He blushed, then laughed at himself. As if Horo would like him.
You know, if you like him, you should tell him," Anna's voice said cooly.
Manta let out a yelp while jumping out. "A-Anna!"
The blonde girl looked down at him with her usual stoic expression. "Once it's clear, things are easier to accept."
"Huh? I have no idea what you're talking about," he laughed nervously.
"Right," she replied cooly. "Well, just think about it."
Manta blinked, turned his attention back to the shaman and samurai, thinking about what Anna said.
Later that night, he sighed as he lay in his futon, still thinking. "Maybe... it'd be easier to get shot down, than to torture myself..."
"Manta, Yoh-dono asked me to check on you," Amidamaru said as he appeared, causing the boy to let out a small yelp.
"Amidamaru... Yeesh," he said while sitting up and looking at him. "What do you mean?"
"You were so quiet today. He's worried."
"Um... It's nothing I want to talk about," he said quietly while looking away.
Amidamaru was quiet, then nodded some. "Alright then."
Manta was quiet, then looked upa s Amidamaru began to disappear. "Amidamaru..."
"Hmm?" The samurai looked curiously. "Hai?"
"Um... Amidamaru... I... I have a crush you," he said meekly. "I... I wasn't going to say anything, but Anna said I should."
Amidamaru watched him quietly, then smiled. "I suspected so. Manta, you are a friend to me. Nothing more. I'm sorry to tell you this, but it would be unfair to lead you on."
Manta watched him quietly, then nodded, tears filling his eyes and running down his face. "I... see..." He swallowed hard. "Well... Thank you for telling me, then." He was quiet for a moment, then he smiled weakly. "Anna was right... It does feel better."
Amidamaru nodded. "I'm sorry to hurt you, Manta. Sleep well."
"Hai," he replied, then after Amidamaru disappeared he laid back down, struggled to fall to sleep, and eventually succeeded, but slept more peacefully than he expected.
