Disclaimer: If you notice a character in my story that you recognize from Ella Enchanted (like Mandy), by Gail Carson Levine (one of the best authors ever), then they aren't mine, they're hers (Elly's mine though… so is Chelsea and Bree and Zachary… I could go on forever but I'll stop so you can get to the story… Actually since those are the only characters you meet in this portion, I guess I couldn't go on forever).

Now, R&R! (Please :)

Summary: Well… I'd put a summary here, but it'll probably keep changing throughout as I get different ideas, so that would be pointless… If you want to know the summary then just read it before you click on my story (think you can manage that?).

(A/N) Just a note—I'm one of those overly meticulous people who must have absolute perfection or they'll go crazy evil smile

So I check my spelling and grammar and read through my story for fluency and all that over and over and over and over and over…etc… again. And my spellchecker on the computer checks my spelling and grammar. And my mom checks my spelling and grammar. And if my mom isn't home, my dad checks it. Occasionally I even get my sister to check it (which is pointless since she is 12 and doesn't know how to correctly check my stories… or anything else for that matter).

So… Basically all I'm asking is that if you see something wrong please tell me… Even something that seems like it just doesn't quite fit.

Yes I admit it… I'm a freak. Now find my mistakes and let me know them. Thanks!

Forever Elly

Prologue

"98, 99, 100! Here I come!" Elly uncovered her eyes and turned around to look for her friends.

They were playing hide and seek, her favorite game, at her 10th birthday party, which had started at her house and ended up at a nearby park. She smiled, thinking of her party so far. They'd gone swimming(only in the shallows), had cake, opened presents, and now they were playing games before everyone left to go home.

She started walking around, looking in all the obvious spots, but she couldn't find anyone. She saw a butterfly and tried to catch it. It flew up towards the sky and she watched it.

Then there was a slight movement to the left that caught her eye, and she turned her head. "Ha!" she yelled triumphantly. "I see you Chels!" Chelsea, Elly's best friend, was in a tree, high in the branches. "Yeah, well you still have to catch me!" she yelled down in response.

Elly ran to the trunk of the tree. She loved climbing them just to relax. She could sit up there for hours, just staring at the view of the beautiful village she lived in and watching life as it went by.

But that wasn't what was important now. Elly had to climb up and tag Chelsea, so that she would be 'it.'

Elly scrambled up the trunk, using the branches to climb higher and higher. Chelsea tried to climb higher, but the branches got too thin and she could tell they wouldn't hold her weight. She was trapped and both she and Elly knew it. Laughing, Elly advanced towards Chelsea. "I'm going to get you!" she joked, and burst into a fit of giggles. Chelsea looked down at her and she too started laughing. Elly reached up and tagged a bit of Chelsea's breeches, which they were both wearing since they were easier to play in. "Got you!" she giggled.

Both girls began to descend from the tree. When they reached the ground they straightened their breeches and together they set off to find the others.

Elly saw something moving over by the riverbank. "Look!" she whispered, pointing excitedly toward it. "There's something there!" They crept towards where she'd been pointing. They were about 10 feet away when suddenly, Elly's friends Zachary and Brentley, whom were called Zach and Bree, leapt up from their hiding spot and ran in opposite directions. "Chels, go after Zach!" Elly cried to Chelsea as she began running after Bree.

Bree was fast, but so was she. Elly loved to run, and did so often. Whenever the children held races, Elly always won, except against Bree. When she ran against Bree, there was no telling who would win.

Now she chased after him as he ran over little hills and through their 'secret tunnels' that they all liked to play in.

Bree glanced back and then ran faster. She sped up too.

It was slow going, but she was gaining on him. She finally got close enough and took a risk and leapt at him. She got him around the ankles and they both tumbled to the ground and rolled down the hill he'd started going up. "Ha!" She said. "I got you!"

Bree was laughing too hard to respond. After a second, Elly started laughing too.

They did this a lot. In fact, everyone always seemed to laugh when Elly was around. Most likely it was because of her humorous nature and adventurous spirit.

They got up and dusted themselves off. Then they walked back towards the center of the Royal Ayorthian Park.

As they walked they were just chatting lightly; about her birthday, the weather, the view from the trees and high hilltops, and other things.

But then Bree told Elly something that made her feel like she'd just put on a corset as tightly as possible (Mandy, her godmother, let her try one once). Elly couldn't breath. Bree… He was moving. To Frell.

Her eyes filled with tears as she looked at him in disbelief. He'd been her best friend (besides Chelsea) for years. "You-you're leaving? But- why?" she asked as the tears began to roll down her cheeks. "When?" He'd been friends with her for what felt like a lifetime, and he knew she only cried when she was incredibly upset. He gave her a hug, his arms tight around her. He was really going to miss her. "Elly, don't cry," he told her. "My dad got work at the palace there. I'm sorry, I don't want to leave."

Elly pushed away from him, wiping her eyes. "When are you leaving?" she sniffled. He cringed. "Tomorrow." And Elly kept crying.

It wasn't exactly a happy birthday.

By the time they returned, Chelsea had found everyone else and the game was ended. Everyone went back to Elly's house to be picked up.

The last one to leave was Bree. He had something to give her.

He pulled out a box that she guessed he had hidden behind a flowerpot since she hadn't seen it when opening her other gifts. It was rectangular shaped and had been wrapped with care. She quietly tore off the tissue paper. Underneath lay a long box made of blue velvet.

She carefully lifted the top, and inside the box laid a necklace that was beautiful and magnificent. It was a single while lily charm with a chain so thin it would appear as if the charm were just hovering on her skin. It took Elly's breath away. The tears returned to her eyes.

"I'll treasure it forever," Elly told Bree, refusing to let her tears fall. And with one last hug, he left, not to be seen again. And only then did her tears drop.

Hope you liked the prologue… Please read and review. Once I get like 5 reviews or so I'll post the 1st chapter (actually I'll probably just end up posting it on Sunday anyway).

(The 1st chapter starts about 5 years later… so don't worry, this story is not about a 10 year old… Plus, how much romance could a 10 year old have?... Seriously ;)… )

So the faster you review the faster you get the next chapter… so go… now… review… criticize and comment and… all that good stuff. Flames are okay too, just let me know why.

Review!

Thanks

Lauren
