Too Many Flowers

He was hoping he wasn't in trouble.

Not that he thought he'd done anything to be in trouble.

But that look on her face when she'd told him to get out of the house for a little while…maybe she was really just upset because his brother had just gotten over not feeling well.

He'd just been trying to help when J'onn was looking after his younger brother, but apparently, they didn't appreciate his kind of help. Then again, how was he supposed to know that J'onn didn't like fire? He'd only been trying to calm his brother down with his magic trick.

Diana had not been pleased.

And that was how he found himself sitting outside in a flower garden, waiting for something to happen. The flowers were beautiful, their light blue petals dancing brightly in the softly blowing breeze.

Light blue…like Diana's eyes.

Which gave him an idea.

Beautiful flowers for a beautiful woman, he thought happily as he pulled flower after flower. He eventually had a small handful. Holding the small bundle proudly, he skipped back toward the house.

He skipped to the heavy oak door, throwing it open easily. Skipping still, he bounced down the hall happily until he bumped into Bruce.

"What are you doing?" he asked, raising an eyebrow and spinning around, both hands behind his back.

"Giving flowers to Mommy," Brian smiled happily as he showed said flowers to Bruce.

Bruce stared at them for a second and glanced over his shoulder before stooping down.

"Tell you what; we'll trade; I'll give her the toy for Bryant and your flowers," he told him, "and you give her these." He pulled the bouquet from behind his back and switched with Brian.

Brian smiled as he hands grasped the red tissue paper and he held it to his chest, inhaling the flowers' scent.

"You hide behind the door until I say your name, ok?" Brian nodded enthusiastically as Bruce ruffled his hair and walked toward the kitchen where Diana was cleaning their lunch plates.

Bruce paused outside the door, and turned back to Brian. He put a finger up to his lips, and Brian mimicked him.

Smiling, he walked into the kitchen.

He planted a kiss on her cheek as he came up behind her.

"Hey, sweetheart," he continued smiling. He held out the toy. "This is for Bryant, but these," he showed her the small bundle of flowers Brian had picked, "are for you."

"Oh, Bruce," she began, but he held up a finger to stop her.

"I think our son has some flowers, too," Bruce whispered as he turned and glanced toward the door. "Joseph?"

Joseph Brian scampered into the room, his face hidden behind the bouquet.

Diana smiled as she took the flowers and smelled them. She placed them on the counter and grabbed up Brian. She hugged him tightly, both laughing, as Bruce pulled the two of them into an embrace.
