Marin's Flight
By Lindsey Katherine Little
Notes: Bren was traveling through Hyrule whenever Link came to visit
Koholint Island. So Bren has not met Link before. Marin is 15 and Bren is
17.
Disclaimer: I don't own Zelda but I do own this story. If you take it,

Chapter 1: The Byrd
"And he sailed away to Hyrule... ...without me..." With a deep lonely sigh,
Marin rested
Her head against the palm tree of the beach. She told her story to many of
the islanders although not one of them believed her story she thought. No
one did except for the witch who lived in the Mysterious Woods and her
friend, Bren. Everyone else thought this story was another one of her tales
where the people would grow wings and fly away to far off places.
Bren was her best friend ever since she could remember. Bren hinted looks
like Link. He had brown hair and he wore brown leather boots, just like
Link's boots. The only thing that made the two different was their eyes and
the way they dressed. Bren had Hazel eyes and Link had blue eyes. Link wore
his Kokiri clothing that he was born into while Bren dressed in scruffy
blue-jean shorts and a white shirt.
"If he went away, and you're sure that he won't be back for quite some time
then, why not go to him?" Bren said as he sat beside her body lying in the
sand.
"The ocean has been acting very strange lately. I wonder if somehow... nah!
That is impossible." Marin began to laugh at her idea.
"Go on, what is it?" Bren said as he sat cross legged like a little child.
Bren was no child even though he had an imagination as vivid as a child's.
He was her age if not a little older. "Nothing is impossible."
"I was thinking that maybe we could fly there." Marin began to lean over
her stomach she was laughing so hard. "But that is just plain silly..."
"Well, I have been to Hyrule. I have written about it in many of my
journals. Didn't you know that I am an adventurer? Of course the sea is
filled with creatures beyond our imagination so we must find another way to
get there. Walking is not an option. Maybe my dad has some ideas. I'll go
ask him tomorrow, of course. Today is almost over..." Bren said as Marin
laid her head in his lap.
"Last time I saw you're dad, he was constructing the Byrd. But then that
big storm came around and messed it all up for him didn't it? Poor Marney."
Marin said as she looked out into the horizon. The seagulls chirped and
cawed as they floated in the breeze with their wings outstretched.
"Ever since the storm, he hasn't been doing anything. He has been walking
along Tal Tal Heights. I wonder if the storm not only destroyed the Byrd
but maybe it took some of him with it..." Bren said as he stared at two
seagulls chattering on the beach about something.
The sun was setting, giving the sky its orange color. The salty ocean
breeze blew in their hair. The waves crashed amongst the sands, often
upturning shells or things that were lost out at sea.
"The life of a bird must be so wonderful. Not a care in the world. Just
what to eat and where to perch at night. I wish I were a bird. If I were, I
would fly into the horizon, away from here." Marin said sleepily with her
eyes closed. "And never EVER return!"
"No, you wouldn't just leave me here on this island to myself, would you?"
Bren asked Marin.
"I would fly away by day and perch on this island by night. I promise I
would return, for you only." Marin said almost in her sleep. Marin dozed
off.
"I'll build you wings so you can fly." Bren whispered to her ear and kissed
her to sleep.
