Bitter-Sweet Love
A James and Lily Story

Hey all~ Yes, Missy has fallen to the masses and has written her own fan fiction on James and Lily. Let's all laugh together. *laughs and pokes fun at self* Okay~ Just wanted to leave a note saying that this is the first time I've opened my writing for public criticism, so be honest with me, but remember…I'm new at this fan fiction stuff and this site. LoL.
I'm not anywhere near done writing, but I do have it all planned out. I'm sure that it's going to seem to start out a bit dry, boring and short chapters, but it'll get better, I promise! (*crosses fingers*)
I'm writing this, in the assumption that you are all here due to the fact that you are interested in James and Lily; therefore I have left out (aside from here and there) most of the obvious descriptions. Like, that they're all wizards and witches and such. You all know this. LoL.
And remember to watch the Chapters for the year so you don't get confused. Not every chapter will bounce back and forth. It might go a couple in a row of one time period, but I'll always mention it in the chapter title.
So…here goes. =)
Prologue Halloween-1981
The half-crescent moon shone its light brightly down upon Godric's Hollow on the chilly October evening. It was getting late, and as usual for the past week, James Potter was getting bored. It was Halloween, but in order to keep his family safe, they had to stay at home rather than celebrate with friends.
"James, I'm going to put Harry to bed. Why don't we watch a muggle movie when I come back down? One of those scary ones," Lily Potter suggested with a smirk on her face. She knew how James enjoyed muggle movies.
James shrugged, pushing his glasses up his nose, "I suppose so."
Lily bent down to pick up her year old son. Harry was fighting sleep, just like his father usually did. Thinking of how much the two were alike put a genuine smile on Lily's face. She walked towards James so that father and son could say goodnight and noticed the solemn look on James' face.
"Baby? What is it?" Lily asked him, her smile fading. She sat on the arm of the chair that James was lounging in. Baby Harry gurgled to get his father's attention, bringing a slight curve to the mouth of James.
"Halloween. Just miss the boys, ya know?" James took Harry from Lily's arms to share one last round of tickles.
Lily sighed, "I know darling, but we can't take any chances right now."
"Peter hasn't even been by in a few days. The one friend I'm allowed to have right now," James said with a bit of an angered tone. "I say that tomorrow afternoon we go out. We can go meet with Sirius at the Three Broomsticks. Just get some fresh air Lils."
Lily sighed, knowing that James hated being cooped up more than anything. He was dying a little inside every moment not being able to be out there and fighting. Not being able to feel like he was protecting his family by doing something. He had so much bravery and heart.
But alas, Lily and Dumbledore convinced James that for the time being, at least until they could give more thought to the situation, James and family were to be in hiding.
Only a week had gone by since they had preformed the Fidelius charm and made one of James's best mates the Secret Keeper. The Fidelius charm made their quaint home impossible to find. Only Peter knew where exactly they were.
"James, I think we should wait and talk to Albus before we decide to just head on out and live life normal," Lily mentioned.
James shook his head as Harry's eyes seem to get droopy finally, "Live life normal? Lily when was the last time we lived life normal? That was years ago! I can't stand this Lils! Not doing anything. Just sitting here like…like sitting ducks."
"James!" Lily exclaimed. She took Harry back into her arms and looked at her husband, the love of her life, upset.
"We. Are. Not. Sitting. Ducks," she told him in clenched teeth. "Here, we're safe. Here, Harry is safe James Potter. We have a chance to figure out something to do. We can make the world right…"
Her voice began to trail off with tears forming in her emerald eyes. James sighed and stood to comfort his wife.
He wrapped his arms around her while she cuddled tightly to Harry, "I'm sorry baby. I just…I'm so frustrated…"
Lily nodded her head, looking up into James' hazel eyes, "I know. But you know what James? Even in our situation, something makes me feel like I couldn't be any happier if I were any where else."
James smiled and held on to her tighter, "I love you Lily."
"I love you too James. There is no one I would rather be with in this world than you. There is no one that I'd rather share my life with than you or live my experience with than you. There is no one that I'd rather raise our sweet child, the savior of the wizarding world, with, than you."
James closed his eyes tightly, holding back the tears. There were just too many emotions running through his body. But holding his Lily and watching his son start to sleep; those emotions were the good ones. The ones that made him believe that no matter what happened, no matter what came of him or the world, he had no regrets.
He wouldn't change a thing either, even considering.
