Chapter 32. Control, a new partner and glowing orange eyes.
Jakob returned to his dorm feeling particularly good and opened room thirteen to be met by a still-sleeping Pansy.
A smile graced his face as he grabbed the note he had written, walked inside the bathroom, and took a quick shower.
When he was done, he dressed and walked out, lay in bed and moved a string of hair that had fallen over the left side of her face. The Slytherin boy observed that his sleeping roommate's hair had grown longer, framing her face perfectly with that cure fringe of hers. Pansy stirred and slowly woke up, giving him a tired smile.
"Good morning." She said, stretching before stopping mid-stretch and looking at him again, remembering what had happened the evening before.
Pansy quickly sat up, not meeting his eyes and trying to use her hands and arms to get some space between them.
"Oh no, you don't," said Jakob, grabbing her arm and embracing the girl, who screamed in surprise as he dragged her back down to bed with him.
"You are not avoiding me or making my head full of questions today. We are going to have fun and feel great; otherwise, this awaits you," laughed the black-haired boy as he started to tickle the girl, who screamed and laughed simultaneously.
"Jakob, stop! I can't breathe!" But to no avail. Jakob kept tickling her, and her feeble attempt to do the same faulted as she succumbed to her enemy's attacks. When it was over They, lay in bed, staring at each other for a few moments before Pansy started the conversation they needed to have.
" Jakob about yestuday. I… I know what I did was wrong. And Draco… shit, what have I done!" she almost yelled as she remembered the blonde and Jakob rolled his eyes.
He leaned in and kissed her again. Pansy responded to it and briefly closed her eyes before staring at him for a few seconds. She opened her mouth to say something but chose instead to continue the kiss and lifted her arms around him, holding on to the boy she knew she couldn't resist. When they were done saying good morning, He released the kiss and looked at her.
"our secret, alright?" he questioned, giving her a wink. Pansy, lying next to him, nodded, blushing. She then asked the final question that was on her mind.
"Um, Jakob… don't you and Amy have a thing? And Daphne? and... do you have any more girls I should know of?" Jakob frowned and thought for a moment.
"I do have others." He started and closed his eyes, cursing himself for the blood ritual. He would never be able to lie to her, and he had just thought of doing it, forcing the truth to come out.
Pansy's eyebrow rose.
"Jakob... you are a bit of a slut, aren't you?" she giggled while he rolled his eyes.
"Yes, and thank you for that excellent comment," he answered dryly.
"Only you and Amy have been the ones I intended to kiss at first. The rest has been... either starting or accidents," he answered, and she saw that he chose his words carefully.
"Mind telling me their names?" asked the girl, who felt a sting of jealousy."
Jakob sighed.
"Tell you what. I can give you one of the names, but that's it, no more questions, and we drop this conversation for the time being, alright?"
His roommate nodded and waited.
"One of them is named Rachel. And no, you don't know here, and no, I don't believe I will ever see her again," said Jakob with a triumphant smile.
Pansy frowned as she knew that he had played his cards right. A nervous look then appeared on her face.
"Jakob. When we get exclusive with someone, we need to stop this. You are an heir of an ancient and noble house. We will both be betrothed soon, and Father told me that he is waiting for Lord Mafloys letter to arrive any day. We need to help each other's; otherwise, we will both be disowned."
Of course, knew Jakob of this. He had no idea who his father planned for, But the Quade heir was certain that he would choose someone to strengthen the Quade house.
"We will stop when that day comes, but until then." Jakob leaned in. Pansy, who was deep in thought, biting her lip, smiled when she saw him closing in. The black-haired fringed girl accepted his kisses with open arms.
"I... have... Waited... For...This... A... Long... Long... Time...," she stated between the kisses, and Jakob nodded in agreement.
"We…both…Have…" He then pulled away.
"Shit, we need to get down for breakfast." Pansy, who held him tight, shook her head, wanting to continue, but then she heard her stomach growl. She glared at her stomach, knowing that he was right and they had to end this.
Jakob chuckled while he got up.
"Don't look like that. You will have me all for yourself every night."
Pansy, who had gotten up too, stood on her toes and gave him one last kiss before entering the bathroom.
Jakob walked outside and met up with Draco and Theo, sitting on the couch with Daphne and Blaze. They were in a heated discussion, and the youngest Slytherin-five member walked over to them, wearing a frown.
"You don't have any idea of what you talking about. Why would you even think Care of magical creatures is a good option? The half-troll is incompetent at best." stated a glaring Daphne, and Theo shook his head while Draco rolled his eyes.
"Open those closed ears, Greengrass. I don't care! It's an easy mark, and I… Jakob, tell her!" Jake, who had taken a seat, raised his hands and looked at his friends.
"I have no idea what you two are fighting over. But I know people are looking at you, sniggering while you two are bickering about something this absurd."
The two blondes glanced around, seeing the amused smiles on the rest of their housemates.
Draco sighed and then switched to a calmer, more stoic voice.
"Daphne says that runes beat creatures. She thinks I'm a fool for choosing it, and I think she is a fool for taking an elective that only brings more homework. Runes are famous for making students drop out."
Jakob had a thoughtful expression and then looked over at Draco.
"Mate, I selected runes and Magical Creatures. Hagrid might be a troll, but you've got to admit that he understands magical creatures well."
All his friends looked stunned at their friend. Had he just given a compliment to the half-blood?
"Well, that resolved the fight," said Jakob, standing up and walking out, heading to the great hall.
Jakob sat with his back towards the raven claws table when they sat and enjoyed breakfast.
"Have you heard about the attacks in America?" said one older Ravenclaw in a low voice to someone beside him.
"Yeh, horrible. Whole families wiped out." said the other raven claw.
Jakob was about to turn around when he felt someone sitting beside him.
"I don't know what you see in her," snorted Draco and Jakob's heart almost stopped. Had she told his blonde friend?
"What?" asked Jakob, faking confusion.
"Don't give me that fake expression. You know who I talk about."
Jakob leaned in.
"What did she-" started the black-haired boy, but Draco cut him off.
"You heard loud and clear what Daphne said, don't act like you weren't there." grunted the blonde, taking a piece of bread and bacon.
Jake breathed a sigh of relief and turned to his own toast and scrambled egg.
The rest of the Slytherins soon arrived, and the owls started to fly in, dropping the newspapers and gifts their loved ones had sent them. Jakob, who had started a subscription to the Daily Prophet, saw a school owl flying low and dropping him the newspaper before turning and flying out again.
"I didn't know you subscribed to that." Said Pansy, sitting Infront of him and Draco.
Draco, who had received a letter from his father, also turned his head towards the girl, and when she met the blonde's eyes, she turned away. Not sure what to do, she hesitated before taking a boiled egg, slowly hitting it against the table and observing the shell as she plucked one piece at a time.
"I don't want any more surprised," said Jakob, observing the uncomfortable girl.
He then took up the paper and started reading through it.
One segment in the middle caught his eye.
Dangerous old lady. By Leslie's knuckle.
Reports from the MACUSA tell us that an infamous leader of the NSPS ( New Salem Philanthropic Society) had been willingly arrested outside their headquarters in Newyork.
When the Aurors had brought Modesty Barebone in for questioning, she told a horror story.
Modesty Barebone, Daughter of the Previous leader Mary Lou Barebone, has terrifyingly continued her mother's work. She Told the MACUSA she had lured in Wizards and witches to their demise, providing both the tool she used and a list of the victim's names. The old lady then proceeded to end her life with a hidden object. One of the Aurors had this to say:
When we caught her, she looked dazed, almost like she had been cursed. I couldn't believe a word she had said. How could an old muggle do all that? But then we looked inside the book she had taken the razor from.
There was a list inside with many missing witches and wizards from all over the world. It's a miracle that she stepped forward and confessed, and the victims' families have been notified.
I tell myself the same question as the Auror did. How could an old muggle be responsible for all this death? Are there more of them? Are we safe, or are we just blind to the world around us?

Jakob put down the newspaper and pushed it towards Draco. The blonde read it, and with a disgusted sneer, he handed it to Theo, Who, together with Pansy, read the news article and frowned.
"Good riddance." snorted Pansy as she read through it, and the three boys nodded.
"Why do they even think that there could be more? She had a cursed object, for Merlin's sake." Whispered Theo.
Jakob, thinking about Rachel, did not notice that Snape had walked up behind him." Here is your time schedule." Said Snape, giving out papers to the five Slytherins. The professor turned his head quicker than a snitch and rushed to the Gryffindor table.
Jakob looked in amusement at how his head of house took points from Harry for an unknown reason, but the glare the boy was giving him did not help. Lilly, who had just entered the great hall with Dumbeldore, had walked over, and a discussion began. The students started to listen in, seeing if the new professor would stand against the old terror of Hogwarts. Dumbledore, who stood behind them, did not make any signs that he would interrupt. It all ended with Harry still losing the points and a raging Snape walking out, robes billowing behind him. At the same time, Lilly ignored her child and walked to the teacher's tables.
Jakob looked at his timetable and saw that his first lesson of the day was ancient runes and then lunch. Dubbel Dada would cover the afternoon, which made him nod his head in approval.
He excused himself and left the great hall. He wanted a good spot in the class he had been waiting for since he started with the rituals in his first year.
He passed a corridor and went up the moving staircase. When he entered the sixth floor, he saw professor Webb standing outside his own after-school activity classroom, watching his door in fascination.
He frowned as he got closer. The blonde professor still looked like she could curse someone for smiling, but something glimmered in her eyes.
"Hello, Heir Quade. I must say that I'm impressed with the room you have chosen to house your after-class activity," Still focusing on the door in front of her. Jakob stopped for a second, surprised that the professor had noticed him.
"Professor Webb, I'm afraid I don't know what you mean?"
The older stern woman could even make McGonnagal uncomfortable with the eyes she gave Jakob. She raised her Intex finger and slowly shook it from side to side in his direction.
"Tsk tsk tsk. I don't appreciate your lying to me. It's a disgusting habit, and you will be punished. But it will have to wait." sighed Ms Webb with an amused smile and then turned away towards the door again.
"Are you going to keep the activity up this year Mr Quade?"
Jakob, who did not really like how she acted towards him, frowned and shrugged.
"It was a one-year thing, but I might continue this year if I have the time."
The woman turned and gave him an approving nod.
"You have an opportunity here. Make the best of it." She passed the boy and continued on her way out of the corridor, not looking back.
The Slytherin third-year frowned as he went to door 6b and waited for it to open.
After a short while, Hermione arrived as he had figured. He noticed that she hid what seemed like a necklace inside her shirt as she looked around quickly before giving him a quick hug and placing herself a few meters Infront of him.
"Hey," he said a bit nervously but happy.
"Hello, Hermione. How has your summer been?"
As he observed his older friend, he could see some differences in her.
Her hair had become longer, and her facial features more developed.
He could hint that she was wearing a bra under her shirt and she had become taller. The Gryffindor girl noticed the quick glance towards her body, and a blush crept up her face as she moved a lock from her hair.
"It was fine. I got to spend some time with Ivy and the others, and I saw something really weird when we went to a concert." Hermione gave him a smirk as she said it and saw the Slytherin boy sigh and sit down on the bench towards the door.
"Would you believe me if I told you that I didn't know it was her and that I was drunk?"
Hermione grinned and shook her head. Jakob leaned his head towards the wall.
"Are you two… a thing now?"
He stood up quickly and looked baffled at the girl in front of him for a few seconds.
"What? Why in the bloody hell would you think that?"
Hermione gave him a smile, and he noticed a hint of sadness.
"I don't know, I just. You two would make a great couple. She really likes you…." When Hermione said the last word, she covered her mouth with her hand. Jakob's eyebrow rose, and he glanced around, noting that no one else had arrived yet.
"Oh, does she now?" he said with an amused smile, walking over to the shamefaced girl who couldn't believe what she had just said.
"Jakob, you have to promise me that you won't tell her. She would kill me if she knew." He stopped Infront of her and still wore that amused smile of his.
"It's fine. It can be our little secret," said the boy in a low voice and took one more glance before a grin spread on his face, and Hermione frowned in confusion.
"Besides. You will always be my favourite Gryffindor," he whispered and then took his arms around the surprised girl. Hermione released a surprised yell as Jakob lifted her up from the floor and spun them around.
Her surprised yell switched to one of happiness, and he let her down gently again, seeing that smile he was looking for.
"Hey! What the hell are you doing with her?!"
Jakob's heart stopped as he looked into the girl's eyes. He had been too happy to see her and, for one second taking a chance that they were alright. A stupid chance he now had to pay for.
Hermione saw the panic and prepared herself for what words and actions Jakob would throw at her. She turned her head to see Sirius walking towards them quickly.
Jakob released her quickly, and the Auror stepped over to the two, glaring at him before he turned to Hermione.
"Are you alright, Hermione? Did he try to hurt you?"
"No, Sirius, he wasn't. I'm alright. Umm… he… was…" she gave Jakob a glance, and her cheeks turned slightly red.
Lord Black, who had noticed his godson's best friend's weird behaviour, looked back at Jakob, standing there with a calm expression. Sirius could be childish and rash, but if it was one thing he understood, it was this.
His eyebrows rose in realisation as he stepped back, raising his hands to his stomach, palms facing them.
"I was mistaken. I will let you two kids get back to whatever you kids are doing nowadays." He gave the Slytherin an approving smile and Hermione a wink before he turned.
"Shit," whispered Jakob and left Hermione following the Auror, who seemed to sense that Jakob was following. He continued his walk forward, and Jakob, who followed, saw the man turn a corner.
I need to take that information from him. Thought the Quade heir as he also rounded the corner and flicked out his wand, but the Auror was gone.
"Do you really think you can sneak up behind me, kid? I'm an Auror. I was trained for this." said the man standing behind him with his wand pointing at Jakobs back.
The Slytherin boy turned slowly and saw the smirk on the face he really wanted to punch.
"Lord black, I have a request to make,"
"This will be good." answered the amused Auror.
"As you can see, miss Granger and I are friends. But with me coming from an ancient family and being a Slytherin, there will be consequences if they find out. Unpleasant ones."
Sirius's smirk vanished, and a sympathetic smile took its place. He lowered his wand.
"You don't have to tell me about that kid. I'm Black. He then observed the younger Slytherin before asking.
"So you don't agree with the blood purity beliefs?"
Jakob thought for a few seconds. He could establish an alliance with the Auror if he told him, and with the sympathy he already had shown, he would not betray him. Was there a downside to this?
"There is no difference. The soul is the same, magical." Sirius looked surprised and almost shocked.
"That's not something you see every day. A Slytherin saying that muggle-borns and purebloods are the same."
"Now you know my secret. And you also know what will happen to me if they find out. I would like to request that you don't go around telling anyone about this." said Jakob, walking past him.
"Hey, kid." Jakob turned and saw Sirius with his smile.
"Lilly told me about you, and I never thought she was right. But I can see now what she sees in you. You are a good kid, and I won't, I promise."
Jakob gave him a nod, turned, and walked back towards the corridor, where he saw that Hermione was standing, giving him a smile.
If Lord Black knew how good he had been, he would be throwing him into Azkaban or administering the dementors on Jakob himself, thought the Quade heir.
Jakob had mixed emotions. He was relieved that the Auror was going to keep his secret, but now He had the advantage over him. He needed to even the playing field. He needed information on Black.
When Jakob sat in his first ancient runes class, Daphne sat beside him and was the only other Slytherin student who had chosen to take the course with him.
The rest of the class was covered by mostly Ravenclaws, two Hufflepuffs and two Gryffindors that Jakob knew very well.
Ivy and Hermione sat further to his left, with a pair of Ravenclaws in between them, separating the Slytherins and Gryffindors.
When he returned, Jakob spoke with Hermione and asked her to learn more about Lord black and his family. Granger had frowned but agreed nonetheless. She had made a promise to him back in first year that she would not break.
Ivy had shot him glances periodically, which the Slytherin boy tried his best to ignore.
"Welcome to the study of ancient runes, everyone. My name is Bethesda babbling, and you may call me professor Babbling. Now, what can you learn here?" she questioned the class. A few Ravenclaws raised their hands, and Hermione, of course.
"Miss Granger." said the professor and gestured towards the not-so-bushy-haired girl.
Hermione stood up and explained like she was reading from an invisible book.
"Ancient runes will guide you to translate different runes and give you a better understanding of them. This is important as that can lead you to enchant tools, read ancient texts and understand or, if you wish, create your own wards schemes."
She sat down, and the professor nodded.
"Very good, miss Granger. Five points to Gryffindor. Now I want everyone to take up your books and turn to page six. We will begin with runes that we use in this day and age. Next year we will move to Norse runes, which will be more challenging, and if you are still willing to learn in the sixth and seventh year, we will move on to the oldest known runes and symbols.
Jakob was actually excited about this class and picked up his book, turning to the page looking like a child.
Daphne, who saw the eagerness in his face, smiled slightly at the rare sight of the cute boy beside her. She did not notice the glare aimed towards her from a certain redhead.
They went over the different runes and meanings. He scribbled down the various meanings of the runes and their properties as the professor supplied the information. During the class, he raised his hand more than the other students combined and asked questions that the professor was more than happy to explain. But the class sadly had to come to an end, and Professor Babbling clapped her hand once before telling the students.
"I want you all to pair up and write up an essay on a simple ward together, using the runes we have learned today. I will tell you now that you won't succeed in the quest, but we will discuss the mistakes next class. Now I know that you all would prefer to choose your own partner, but if you decide to continue with runes, you will soon find that not everyone is suited for it. You will then need to be prepared to switch partners, so that is what we will do."
Babblings waved her wand, and a bowl Appeared with folded pieces of paper in it. Jakob looked around, trying to see which ones he could tolerate and which he could not.
A blonde Hufflepuff girl Jakob accidentally locked eyes with gave him a flirty smile. Jakob raised an eyebrow in response. Daphne, who had caught the flirt, gave Jakob a glance as he turned back. The Slytherin boy pretended to think the bowl was important and heard the professor say.
"Miss Granger, you can start by coming up here." The girl stood and walked over to the bowl. She reached down, picked up one of the paper slips, and unfolded it.
"It says… Hanna Abbot." answered the girl looking at the Hufflepuff who just had flirted with Jakob. Daphne turned back and gave her a mocking sad face before turning back, looking pretty proud of herself, ignoring the confused frown on Jakob's face.
"Then you and miss Abbot can leave the class. You can pick a suitable time to do your homework on your way to lunch."
Jakob ignored Hermione as she and the annoyed Hufflepuff walked out, closing the door behind them.
"Miss Potter," said professor Babbling and gestured for the redhead to walk forward.
The girl stood up, and with definite steps, she stood Infront of the bowl and stared at it for a few seconds. Babbling gave the girl a confused smile.
"Miss Potter, you need to take a note." The redhead nodded, quickly put her hand inside the bowl and picked up one of the notes.
She turned, briefly glanced at Jakob and opened it.
Her eyes widened as she stated in a loud controlled voice.
"Jakob Quade." A glass shattered in his mind as he stared at the redhead, and Ivy tried her best to look calm and none caring.
The professor noticed something was off and gestured for them to go out before someone took up their wand and started throwing spells.
Jakob gave Daphne an apologetic smile when he grabbed his bag and walked out of the classroom before Ivy had even reached her bag.
"Hey, wait! Why the hell are you walking so fast?" yelled the redhead behind him. He needed to clarify some things for the annoying Potter, who he knew would be a pain in his ass to work with.
The Quade heir passed the entrance to the stairs and rounded the corner where he and Sirius had previously stood and talked.
He waited for Ivy, leaning towards the wall and listening to the hurried steps which came closer and closer. When she arrived and almost passed him, Jakob grabbed her, pushed her up against the wall and gave her an angry glare as he started his little speech.
"I will not study with you and…" he was cut off by the redhead who brought her hand around his neck, pulling him towards her. A stunned Jakob felt her lips press against his and, for a short moment, closed his eyes and kissed her back. He would never admit to himself or anyone else that he had missed the soft lips and taste of strawberry the Gryffindor possed. He snapped back and cursed himself silently for enjoying that, moving away from her with a bewildered expression.
"What the hell is wrong with you? What made you even think of doing that?"
The redhead looked confused.
"Why would you be so secretive and push me up against the wall if you didn't want to kiss me?"
Jakob stood silent for a few seconds with the same expression.
"I wanted to speak with you! You..." He silenced himself as he heard the ancient rune door open again, and he took out his wand, silencing the space they were occupying. He took a calming breath and controlled his emotions.
Ivy raised an eyebrow when she noted the silencing charm, taking a step forward. Jakob understood what she thought he had meant and pointed his wand at her.
"No. We will talk. Make an attempt to kiss me again, and I will curse you."
The redhead gave him an amused, almost oh really look back at him. The Slytherin boy gave her a warning look, and she sighed and shrugged, waiting for him to speak again.
"I will do my end of the work, and you will do yours. We will meet up before the next ancient rune class starts and go through it. Alright?"
Ivy looked disappointed and nodded, lowering her head towards the floor. Jakob lowered his want and thanked the one who had answered his prayer.
"I will tell you how this is gonna go," said Ivy smirking as she looked up at him again.
"You will be studying with me on Thursday evening. We will meet in your classroom." continued Ivy in an alluring voice as she stepped closer to Jakob. He stood still in amazement at how persistent she was. His eyes glanced down at her body, which had grown even more than Hermione's in certain places.
Catching himself staring, Jake shifted his gaze back to her eyes, trying his best to look unperturbed, but it was too late. Ivy had also noticed where his eyes had wandered off to. Standing in front of him, she leaned in and whispered in a seductive voice.
"You always find yourself in a situation where you enjoy my kisses. I enjoy yours two, so why can't we be happy with that and just let it happen?"
She was standing on her toes and slowly put her arms around his neck again, waiting for him to make the first move. Jakob, who had a raging battle inside, stared at the girl and lost the war of logic. The kiss was sudden, but Ivy seemed prepared. she welcomed his lips and tongue, jumping up and locking her legs around him. He raised his hand, holding her up and together, they momentarily lost themself in the moment as they reenacted what had happened at the concert a few weeks before.
The door opened again, and they both stopped, listening to the footsteps that could be heard exiting the corridor and continuing down the grand staircase. Jakob looked back towards the girl who looked like she was in heaven and let her go. Seeing the slight disappointment on her face, he said in almost a hiss.
"Can't you get through your thick head that I don't like you?" he was getting frustrated with the redhead, who smirked back.
"If you really didn't like me, you would have cursed me by now. It's a bit existing, don't you think? Having to keep it a secret."
Jakob looked at her as if she had gone mad.
"I will meet you on Thursday if you just leave me alone."
She gave him a satisfied nod.
"If you like, you can kiss me goodbye." whispered the Gryffindor.
"This was the last time Potter. Leave me alone." He turned away from her and started his walk back towards the staircase. Jakob hated her. He hated that she was so persistent and that smirk of hers. He hated that she was the sister of the boy who lived, and he really hated that she was right. Jakob felt more of his control slip each time he was reminded of her taste and body. If they kept this up, he might not be able to stop, and he hated that the most.
Ivy, who had watched him go, pushed down the sadness she felt about his obvious rejection.
When they had kissed that night in the woods, at the concert, she had felt the passion. She had thought about him all summer, waiting for a letter that never came, and now she had for just a brief moment seen that glimpse of him again. It was addicting, but the rejection that always followed was something she really hated.
She would keep going. She would not let him go away that easy. She was a Potter, and if her father had once fought for her mother for 6 years, she could do the same. With a resolute nod, she made her decision. Her smile returned as she dried the tear she hadn't sensed falling.
Jakob, who had no idea of the vow Ivy had pledged, walked down to the Great hall and sat beside Daphne, who was the only one in their year present at the Slytherin table.
"You seem a bit annoyed," said the Slytherin blonde girl with a smirk towards Jakob. He put some of the lunch on his plate a little more aggressively than usual, only snorted as an answer and started to eat.
"but you seem calm. Who was your partner?" asked Jakob with a hint of jealousy.
"Some Ravenclaw named Terry Boot. He..." started Daphne but frowned and stopped mid-sentence.
"He what?" asked the Quade heir, confused.
"Nothing. He looked at me funny and couldn't control his stammering when we tried to decide time and place."
Jakob shrugged and took a bite.
"made he fancies you?"
Daphne gave Jakob an insulted look, and when no response came from the boy beside her, she got up and left.
Jakob turned and was about to say something to her when he noticed that he sat alone.
"Daphne?"
When he was done eating, Jakob got up and saw that his friends were about to walk in. They looked tired, and Pansy looked almost a bit shaken. The Slytherin boy frowned and walked over to them.
"What happened to you, pansy?"
The girl looked at her roommate in a bit of worry while Draco snorted.
"We were going to read tea leaves in divination. I paired up with Pansy, and when that crazy professor walked over to us, she told Pansy that someone she loves would suffer. They would be relieved, but they would suffer. She then looked at my tea leaves and ended the class for today." Jakob looked at Pansy and then switched to Draco.
"Wow. that must have been horrible for you, Draco. If you ever need someone to talk to, please don't bother me, alright?" laughed Jakob as Draco gave him a punch on the shoulder.
"Yeh, you prick, same to you." chuckled Draco, but Pansy did not look slightly amused.
As Jakob walked passed the group heading out, he saw Tonks and Black making their way inside.
"Hello, seventh floor," said Jakob as he passed Tonks with a happy tone. Sirius looked confused, but Tonks's face reddened, and she turned, close to taking out her wand and curse the boy who hadn't even turned around to look at her.
"That little shit is the one Dumbledore want us to protect?" she almost hissed in a whisper, and Sirius hushed her down.
"Not in here, and he is not so bad. He reminds me of me. Except I was more handsome, of course." chuckled Sirius, not noticing the glare Tonks sent the boy, who was whistling a tune while turning a corner.
Jakob, who had a minute over, walked down to his common room and Into his dorm. He went to his bed and lay down, letting Saliza slither on his arm and onto his chest.
"Saliza, I have decided to introduce you to my family this winter break. I think it's time for my family to meet you."
"It makes me happy little darkness. I look forward to it." hissed the snake as she made herself comfortable on the boy's chest.
"So, you want to tell me what you gained when devouring the basilisk?" he asked his beloved snake as he dragged his fingers down her scale.
"I never tell. You will see when the time comes." hissed his snake back and continued.
"Where is Amy? I haven't seen her in a long time, little darkness."
Jakob frowned.
"Yeh, she is… busy, I think. I can ask if she can open her window for you?"
"Yes, I would like that."
"Do me a favour when you visit her. See if she is up to something. I get the feeling she is avoiding me for a reason."
"I will, my darkness."
Defence against the dark arts was soon starting, and Jakob was hurrying towards the classroom. He had lost track of time with Saliza and was almost running up the stairs, now ignoring the frowns from both the students and the paintings.
When he had passed the entrance to the third corridor, he saw that the door had just closed. The Slytherin rushed over, stood outside, took a calming breath, and opened the door.
Everyone was staring at him. as he closed the door, he took a bow and was about to give an excuse, but the professor gave him a slight smirk and spoke.
"Ah, Mr Quade. Do you believe you deserve more attention than the rest of the class? That the rules don't apply to you?"
Jakob took a slight bow again and shook his head.
"No, professor, I'm sorry."
Ms Webb's eyebrow rose.
"Then why were you late?"
He glanced and saw that some of the Gryffindors were smirking. Ron and Harry almost laughed as they watched him like a comedy movie.
"I was…" he could tell a lie, but she seemed to see right through him, which made the Quade heir very uncomfortable around her.
"sit down and stay after class," said the stern professor, Jakob pushed down the rage that was bubbling inside him. This was unfair. He had been late three seconds. Even McGonagall would not have cared about that.
He took a seat furthest back, dropping his bag on the floor and giving the Gryffindor boy beside him a death glare. Dean Thomas gulped and discreetly moved to another seat while Ms Webb turned around and started writing her name on the board.
Jakob didn't bother to read the name on the board and looked out through the window.
"Hello, class. My name is Ms Leah Webb, and you may call me professor Webb. This year we will go over different dark creatures and strategies on how to defend ourselves against them."
Harry had raised his hand, and the professor waved her wand, making his hand go down again. Ron and Harry gave each other a surprised glance but held their tongue.
"I will need to test you all to see that you are up to date with the things I have prepared for you. I will be very disappointed if you don't meet the requirements I have of you." she glanced over at Jakob, and when she noticed that he wasn't giving her his attention, That little smirk of hers rose again.
"Mr Quade, would you be so kind as to come over here and hand out the papers to your fellow students or is something outside the window more important?"
The boy in question looked back at the professor and had to take a breath so he wouldn't accidentally say something he would regret later. Even some of the other students watched the professor in confusion as they noticed that she obviously targeted the Slytherin hero. Pansy and Draco glared at her, but ms Webb ignored them.
Jakob schooled his face, walked over, received the paper stack, and started handing it out to his fellow year mates.
He started to hand out the papers and took notice of those he would curse later. When he only had one paper left, he sat down on his seat and glanced through the quiz.
The questions were easy enough for him to answer. Twenty minutes of writing later, Jake stood up and walked over to the Professors desk handing her the paper.
He wondered what she would do now to find a way to punish him. Was this how the Gryffindors felt when they had potions?
She yanked the paper from his outstretched hand, not even looking at him as she started to read the paper with her eyebrow-raising as she looked it over.
"Very good, Mr Quade," said Leah with a hint of surprise in her voice.
Jakob did not believe for a second that she was giving him credit and waited for her to continue. She then sighed and ripped his paper in half.
Jakob's eyes widened at the blatant disrespect, and he had to close his eyes for a second as he almost felt the darkness within him stir.
"Too bad that I can see through your cheating ways. You may take a seat, and that will be a detention."
Jakob nodded and turned around.
Not even Harry was smirking now as he thought the professor had crossed a line. On the other hand, Ron looked like he was in paradise, with his hand behind the back of his hand.
"Professor, with all due respect, Mr Quade is top in our year and-"
"It's admirable that you would defend him, miss Granger but if you don't wish to be locked out from this class in the future, I would suggest you hold your tongue." Jakob gave the Gryffindor girl a glare, and she sat down, torn about getting up again to say something nasty to the teacher.
As Jakob took his seat again, Ms Webb read through the other students' papers as they all sat on needles. They all feared that she would tear their papers apart too, and everyone held their breath.
When she was done, she gave a smile towards the class.
"You have all met the requirements, and I'm pleased that we can continue with the next part of this class. Everyone can stand in a line right here in the middle."
The student all stood and moved towards the middle aisle, And the blonde professor took out her wand and waved it, moving all the tables to the side.
"Today, I have a special little guest for you that I found lurking around in the dark spaces inside the Hogwarts kitchen." With a wave of her wand, a chest slid forward from underneath the professor's desk.
"Can anyone tell me what they think is inside here?"
Three hands were raised, and the professor gestured for Hermione to speak.
"Is it a Bogart?"
The professor nodded.
"Very good, miss Granger. 10 points to Gryffindor." Hermione did not even look slightly happy about the points given to her by the professor but nodded in response.
"Can anyone else tell me what they look like?" asked the professor.
This time no one answered, and Leah looked over to Jakob.
"Mr Quade? If you weren't cheating, you should probably know the answer to this question."
Jakob, who stood in the middle of the line, nodded.
"No one knows the true form of a boggart. They take the form of that you fear the most, and as you are paralysed by fear, they devour you."
Webb nodded and continued. Not giving him any points but not punishing him either.
"There is a very effective spell to use against these little pests. Repeat after me. Ridiculous!"
The class spoke after her, and she nodded.
"Boggart's greatest weapon is fear, so their natural enemies are laughter. When you speak the incantations, you will have to picture the Boggart as something funny."
Ms Webb looked over at the first Gryffindor in line.
"Are you ready, miss Patil?" The girl nodded nervously and took a step forward.
The professor stepped back and waved her wand, opening the lock.
A large snake slithered out from the chest and stood tall, almost reaching the classroom's roof.
"Say the spell, miss Patil," helped Ms Webb, and the girl pointed his wand towards it.
"Ridiculous!"
The snake turned into a clown in a box everyone started to laugh.
Next up was The Longbottom boy, who looked terrified as the Boggart swirled around for a few seconds, and suddenly Snape stood there, glaring at the boy in Infront of him.
The Slytherins started to laugh as Neville closed his eyes and then pointed his wand.
"Ridiculous!" the professor's clothes turned into a woman's, and makeup covered his face. Now it was the Gryffindors who laughed while the Slytherins frowned.
Then it was Malfoys turn, and when the Boggart saw him, it swirled around. The blonde gripped his wand tightly as he remembered the cursed book. A villager stood before him, growling, twitching its head before it slowly moved towards the boy who had paled.
The rest of the class all stepped back in horror as they saw the horrific face that was ripped and torn. Draco pointed his wand towards the dead villager.
"Ridiculous!" nothing happened, and it closed in, raising its rotten hands towards him.
"Ridiculous!" shouted Draco again, looking with panicked eyes over to his professor, who readied her wand.
Suddenly Draco felt someone grabbing his robes from behind, and he was dragged backwards as Jakob took a step forward.
"Ridiculous!"
The dead villager turned into a normal one and started tap dancing with a walking stick and wearing a tophat.
Some of the students began to laugh. But Most of them had been as scared as Draco seeing that thing and were now looking nervously around at their friends.
Jakob turned around and gave his friend a nod. He saw Draco disappointed in himself but nodded back, showing his gratitude.
Jakob gave him a shrug and was about to take his place in the line when he heard it and halted. His blood froze as he looked at his friends with wide eyes.
A terrifying death scream echoed in the classroom, and Jakob slowly turned his eyes towards the Boggart, who was swirling around. It almost looked like it didn't want to turn, but then it smashed into the floor, and red glowing lines appeared.
Jakob took a step back as he understood what he was about to see. He pointed his wand towards the upside-down pentagram which was forming, but no words came out as he opened his mouth to say the spell.
The scream suddenly stopped, and the whole class was now backing away from the lonely Slytherin who stood alone with his wand ready.
The symbol finished itself, and ten black claws slowly rose from the symbol. Hands followed, black scorched hands. They gripped the end of the pentagram, and Jakob lowered his wand as he watched in terrified fascination as two black Horns rose. They were followed by a forehead and then two orange eyes with slits as pupils. A dark, inhuman voice he recognised spoke while looking straight into his eyes.
"You hoped she died, but she is here with me. I have torn her apart and rebuilt her just so I can tear her apart again, and it's all because of you."
Jakob shook his head, seeing the pictures in his mind again.
"No.." he whispered, and laughter filled his mind while those eyes kept staring at him. The students, who weren't frozen in fear of what they witnessed, screamed and tried to open the locked door.
" Soon, They will burn. They will all suffer, and it's all thanks to you."
Ms Webb, pale in her face, snapped back and roared.
"Ridiculous!" the inhuman thing turned into a red ball, and she waved her wand. The ball jumped back into the chest, and it closed itself shut.
"Jakob. What have you done?" Asked the professor in a frightened voice.
The Slytherin boy was still staring at where the creature had been and slowly turned his head towards the professor.
"Why won't this damned door open!" yelled Ron, trying to break the door open with Harry and the rest.
The Dada professor observed the situation and the remaining students.
She walked over to Jakob and put her arm around his shoulder as a shield appeared around them.
She waved her wand in a circular motion, and a green smoke slowly filled the room, making everyone except the two behind the round shield fall unconscious.
Jakob looked around, not knowing what to even believe was happening right now.
The professor then stopped her wand movement, and the smoke cleared instantly.
She turned toward Jakob, who stared back at her.
"You… what have you done to them?" questioned the remaining standing student with a dazed expression.
The professor raised her hands and cupped his cheeks.
"They are sleeping. They won't remember what they just Witnessed. I answered one of your questions, so now you will answer one of mine."
Jakob, who was still shocked, only nodded his head.
"Tell me what you have done. Who did you summon, my little lamb."
