Prologue: A Flash Into the Present

Dear Mom,

Sorry I haven't written for a while. How are you doing? I'm Fine. Pikachu is fine, too. A couple of people I know were passing through pallet town, so I asked them to deliver this letter personally. I know it's old fashioned, but as long as it gets to you... I'm traveling with Gary now. Sometimes we argue but mostly we get along all right, so don't worry. Together we get in twice the trouble! But it seems to me we have twice the fun, too. A lot has happened along the way. Like when me and Gary got in a battle with this wacky Lt. Surge wannabe. Or when we got chased by a herd of Slowpoke, who aint that slow. Some other stuff too... like when me and Misty ended up in the same Jacuzzi... I can't tell MOM about THAT!! heh heh... And this one time I met up with a Legendary Pokemon! It was so NOBLE looking! The wisdom in its eyes made me feel like I was in the presence of some kind of ancient deity. It may sound weird talking about a "Pokemon Deity" but... it was like I could sense how wise it was! I've never felt that way around a Human Being! ARGH! I just can't explain it! I've learned so much on my trainers journey! About Pokemon about... about the world... about Pikachu... About a LOT of things. But there's still so much more that I want to know... Like... What's just beyond that hill? What's on the other side of that ocean? What's in that place where the earth meets the sky? I'm not quite ready to stop traveling yet. Hope you're not too disappointed, Mom. I'll give you a call soon!

SEE YOU!

"Are you done yet Ash?" Gary sneered having already handed his letter two overdramatic Rocket members.

"YUP!" As Ash handed over his own letter the married couple burst out into another fit of tears.

"err... Ash... You ready to go?" Gary asked while he slowly backed away from them.

"Sure, see you two later!" he yelled back as the duo reached the gentle slope leading down to their destination. His only reply was a chorus of sobs.
