Hermione pulled her head back an inch from Ron's face. They had kissed. She couldn't believe it. One minute they had been talking in the empty common room and the next moment he was coming toward her. Hermione's mind was moving a mile a minute. "Ron…" she breathed.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have… Forget it," said Ron as he moved to walk away.
"No. Don't apologize," interrupted Hermione, as she reached her hand out to him.
"But…"
This time she leaned into him. She was on cloud nine. This was everything that she had imagined it to be. That is, until footsteps coming down the stairs from the dormitories interrupted them.
"What? What's wrong?" Ron asked after Hermione had pulled away.
"Shh… someone's coming." Hermione said as they jumped away from each other and looked toward the staircase leading to the dormitories.
"Hey, what are you guys still doing awake?"
"Harry, hey. We were actually about to head up to bed," Ron lied.
"Oh. I heard you two arguing, so I wondered what was wrong."
Hermione's mind was racing while trying to think of an excuse. "It was nothing. I was just yelling at Ron about how he shouldn't always put his Potions homework off."
"But I've just finished it, so I'm going to head up to bed once I've pick up all my books."
This seemed to work because Harry said goodnight and headed back up the stairs.
"Whew. That was close," Ron said as he moved back towards Hermione until their lips met once again.
"Wait a minute, we don't have homework in Potions due tomo…," Harry said as he stopped in his tracks on the way back down the staircase.
Ron cursed under his breath and whispered to Hermione, "Next time we're using the room of requirement."
