Pawns:

Bowing down to the King and Queen,
Always losing to the Rook,
Taken just because they're seen,
Without ever a second look.
-
Serving the Bishop's bread
Lower than the Knight,
A pawn's world has much to dread,
Lowest, sure, but since when has that made these awful things right?!
-
Loyalty derived from fear,
This was not for what they cared,
But because of lies or something dear,
Still there, the pawns are, in that dreadful land of squares.
-
Chess may not be the best simile for life,
But it works that way for me,
We are stuck in this vicious strife,
My partner and I, for a reason we couldn't see.
-
They must have thought it was only a game,
Using pawns, like us, as tools,
To control and make the universe their claim,
Playing us as the blundering fools.
