Gil's POV

######################

i'm tossing and turning and i can't get to sleep
got something on my mind - i just can't release
then she whispers so softly - that she believes in me

#######################

"Hey."

I look up and smile slightly, as I find Catherine Willows standing in the doorway to my new office.

"Hi," I reply. "How are you doing?"

She shrugs slightly. "Better now. Thanks for staying with me."

"Anytime, Cath. You know that."

Catherine nods slightly and looks around my office. "Nice room."

I look around. "I guess." I sigh. "I don't know if I can do this, Cath. We both know that you'd be better at it."

"But they didn't pick me," she reminds me, sitting down on the couch. She smiles at me. "You can handle this job."

###############################

if i let her down - and tried to disguise it
she always see through it always replies that
no matter what i do - she believes in me

###############################

"We both know that you're the people person," I tell her.

"You seem to do okay with me."

"You're different. You're…"

She arches her eyebrow slightly.

I backpedal. "You're you."

She rolls her eyes. "Nice save."

"Thank you," I reply.

##########################

all the times i failed - gone slighty off the rails
she's there to remind me - she believes in me
when it all goes wrong and i feel i'm own
she's there to remind me - she believes in me

We sit together for a moment, comfortable with each other.

"It can't be all that hard," Cath reminds me. "A little paperwork here, a little ass-kissing there…."

I groan. "I almost forgot about the sheriff."

She smiles at me. "You'll do fine, Gil. You did fine today."

I sit beside her on the couch, my face falling. "She was just a kid, Cath."

Her hand covers mine. "Yeah. It was Stephanie all over again."

I nod and we sit back on the couch together, her head resting on my shoulder. I stroke the back of her hand absently.

"You'll do fine at this," she assures me. "If Jim can do it, so can you."

"I don't know, Cath," I sigh. "You know me, I'll probably forget everything the minute it's told to me."

"I'll be here to remind you," Cath assures me.

"And the kids won't think I can do it. They couldn't believe it this morning when I was pronounced supervisor."

"Gil?"

"Yeah, Cath?"

"I believe in you."

And that's all that matters.

################################

don't get me wrong – I'm not some kind of fool
I'd give her my world if she asked me to
cuz here's no denying - she believes in me

but i'm only human - i'm just a guy
that sometimes makes mistakes and i can't explain why
some say crazy - but she believes in me
