NOW ON TO THE FINALE
Together At Last
The last thing he remembered was looking for his precious Rei. The rest was a blur to his tired mind. When Kagome was killed, he had been left jaded. The only thing that kept him together was his sweet daughter Rei. But what a bittersweet reminder she was to him. Each year, as she grew, she looked more and more like her mother. It was painful, but he couldn't help but feel paternal pride over her.
He didn't really know where he was, or what was going on, but he felt warm. Safe. For the first time since Kagome died, he felt at ease. It was almost as if his soul was at peace. Maybe it was. But before he could give himself to the soothing presence, he needed to find his daughter. First and foremost was always his daughter.
Opening his eyes, he was met with a blinding light. Snapping them back shut he cursed. That was something he hadn't done since Kagome died. Actually there were a lot of things he hadn't done since she had died. Odd, though, the usual sadness that pervaded his being at the mere whisper of her name in the recesses of his mind was missing. It was almost as if she were right there next to him.
A couple of soft giggles and snickers off to the side warned him that he was not alone. Snapping to attention, he quickly sat up and was met with a sight that brought tears to his eyes. Out in a field filled with flowers was his sweet Kagome playing with Rei and Shippou. The trio giggled and laughed as the children double-teamed Kagome and tackled her. There they held her at their mercy, tickling her. A lone tear managed to escape.
Shakily making it on his feet, he began to walk towards her. He reached for her. In the distance he could see Sango and Miroku watching Kagome and laughing. He was home. He was finally home. He broke out into a jog, and then a full run. He reached for them, called for them. They did not hear him. Fiery chains latched onto his waist from behind and began to drag him back. Desperately he cried out for them, he reached out for her. If only he could touch her one last time.
Struggling against the chains that kept him prisoner, he wept as they continued their merry game. Soon Sango and Miroku joined them. Harsh sobs wracked his body. He paid no heed to the burns that the chains were causing him, nor the way it sapped his strength as he fought them. Soon his power was run thin, leaving him weak and helpless. The game before him stopped and they left the clearing.
The skies grew dark as the landscape was enveloped. A voice behind him caused him to start. "Forget them Inuyasha. Forget them. You will never rejoin them," it cooed.
"Why?" he choked out.
A figure in red and white came into his peripheral vision as Kikyou whispered in his ear, "Because you promised."
A look of pure horror and realization dawned upon his face as a portal to hell opened up beneath them and swallowed them whole. His screams were heard until the earth once again resealed itself.
