A/N: Well, I usually do fics for more well-known books in movies, but
I am doing something different this time. To make a long story short, I
watched this movie called "The Molly Maguires" a few weeks ago, and it was
awesome! But I felt the story ended too abruptly, so I decided to write a
small songfic about James's feelings after the movie (It's a true story,
you know).
I don't expect many of you to have seen this movie, nor do I expect many people to review (although you would make me so happy if you did!) I'm just posting this on a momentary whim, so if you read this, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own "The Molly Maguires", nor do I own Evanescence's "Taking Over Me".

TAKING OVER ME
He didn't glance out the window as the train rolled out of the station with a final long blast of the horn. He didn't want a last look at the town he had called home for over a year. He didn't want a last look at the town he had betrayed.
He certainly had left his mark on the little town. Kehoe and the others would soon be dead. He had completed his mission—he should have been proud of himself! But then, how could he be proud when he had abandoned his only friends for his career? How could he be proud when he, James MacPaulan, had betrayed the girl of his dreams? Well, it didn't matter anymore. She was gone forever. Out of his life. But James simply couldn't put her out of his life as easily as she had done to him.
You don't remember me but I remember you
I lie awake and try so hard not to think of you
But who can decide what they dream?
And dream I do...
It had taken him so long to finally capture her heart. And when he had finally caught it, she had wrenched it back from him and marched away. He remembered her last words with a broken heart: "I would have gone with you...even if you were against the law." She'd been deceiving him the whole time then, making him think that she would only marry a law-abiding man. She had snubbed him so badly, but he had stuck by her from beginning to end and did almost anything to please her...even let her go.
I believe in you
I'll give up everything just to find you
I have to be with you just to live, to breathe
You're taking over me
The job wasn't worth it, he realized with a twist of his heart. He should have just told the Police Captain that he could go hang himself, because he wasn't going to get the Molly Maguires. The punishment and the loss of the money would have been better than the heartbreak and loss he was experiencing now. His mind traveled back to the night he and Jack had burned the store—what a lovely blaze it had made! What good times him and the gang had had—planning who to bash next, and how to do it.
Then he had turned them all in. And everything had changed. His friends were now strangers; his girlfriend had broken off with him. He remembered putting his hand on her cheek; she had removed it gently and walked out. It was like they had never known each other.
Have you forgotten all I know
And all we had?
You saw me mourning my love for you
And touched my hand
I knew you loved me then
He just couldn't forget her, couldn't forget his friends. They all loomed in his mind, and he knew they would haunt him for the rest of his life.
James saw a reflection of himself in the window. Only it wasn't him. This was a heartbroken old man who had turned his back on the only compassion he had ever known. The image slowly morphed into the man's one true love.
I look in the mirror and see your face
If I look deep enough
So many things inside that are just like you
Are taking over.
Now he knew what Jack meant when he'd said, "You'll never be free."

A/N: Leave me a review, even if it was bad! I need to know how to improve my writing.
