Author's Note: Well, I finally have time to write in this busy summer. I know this may upset you, but I am also abadoning Madness. I just was not happy with the way it was going. So here's a new one shot story that suddenly struck me when listening to New Found Glory. Hope you like it!
--------
First comes heavy breathing
Staring at the ceiling
What will happen next?
I don't wanna know
-I Don't Wanna Know
New Found Glory
-------
They sat on her worn out couch. They were silent.
He looked at her and she looked back.
She broke the silence.
"Come on, let's just see what happens," she whispers.
"No," he simply says back.
"Why not?" she asks for more reasons than curiousity alone.
"I have two reasons."
"What?"
"I would have to admit it."
"Admit what?"
"If I told you, that would be admitting it."
"Fine... "
It was silent once more for a few seconds.
"What was the other reason?" she asks.
"If we did just see what would happen, things couldn't go back to the way they were before."
"What do you mean?"
"We couldn't just go back. We would be more than friends, less than friends, or not even friends. Things would be different. I like the way it is now between us."
"I guess that makes sense."
"I have another reason."
"What?"
"I couldn't go through life knowing that I hurt you."
"Even if it were my fault?"
"I wouldn't put fault on anyone but myself."
"So I if were to cheat on you-"
"It would be my fault for neglecting you."
"I see."
The silence came again.
"I'm sorry," she said suddenly.
"For what?"
"For the way things have to be."
"Me too."
"So I guess this is it, the way it just has to be."
"I guess so," he whispered sadly.
They looked at each other for a minute.
"Goodbye Sara."
"Goodbye Gil."
He left her house and got in his car. He sat there for a while. He pondered what had just happened.
"I would have to admit that I love you, Sara Sidle, and that would change things," he said to himself.
Deep down inside, he knew that their lives had already changed, just from this conversation.
They could not go back to the way they were.
