Disclaimer: I own all of Earth: Final Conflict! That's why there were no Taelons in the last season! HAHAHAHA!!!
Seriously, though, I adore the Taelons and do not own any of E:FC.
Enjoy! Feedback in any shape, size, or colour is greatly appreciated.
Liam's short brown hair rustled in the cool breeze as he slowly started up a narrow dusty path. Grass had taken over parts of the trail and the stones were eroding away. Not a sound was in the woods, with the exception of the browning leaves shuddering in the wind and the young man's footsteps. A ghostly mist hung in the trees, making the scene almost surreal.
Crunch crunch snap crunch. Liam's boots crushed the dried leaves and twigs that scattered the ground. Suddenly, the man stopped. His green eyes took in the landscape. After a moment of thought, Liam turned towards the centre of the woods. The mist thickened as he continued onward, forcing the man to use his hands as aids in navigating.
Ko-ko-ri-co. The soft chirping of a solitary bird broke the ominous silence. Liam froze at the sudden noise, but quickly relaxed and continued on when he realized what had caused the sound.
The trees were now almost side by side. Dead branches and sharp brambles reached out to rip at the Protector's skin and catch his clothing. Liam ignored the scratches that now covered his face and fought his way into a wee clearing.
It would have been more impressive in the summer, but even at late fall the clearing retained some of its appeal. A few grass blades here and there were still green and tiny snow white blossoms scattered the ground. The soft trickle of a brook reached Liam's ears as he sighed happily.
The man was tempted to sit down on one of the huge grey stones, but instead he traveled on, following the sound of running water. The brook wasn't too far away and it only took Liam a few minutes to reach it. Liam knelt at the edge of the stream and gazed at the wavy image of himself contained in the water.
A rustling came from Liam's right and he jerked up. A pair of unearthly blue eyes met his. The being stepped from behind a tree, blushing so that his sapphire and white energy pathways would be seen.
"Da'an? What are you doing here?"
The Taelon approached a little closer, bringing up his Human facade as he walked. "I wished to meditate in a place where I would not be disturbed. May I inquire as to why you are here?"
"Basically the same reason," Liam admitted with a grin. A small smile touched the Taelon's lips. Their eyes locked and the man felt a sudden twinge of guilt for disturbing this alien. "I can leave if you want . . ."
"That will not be necessary." The Taelon motioned for his Protector to resume sitting. Liam returned to the ground, sitting with his legs crossed. Da'an slowly walked up to Liam and lowered himself onto his knees.
The Taelon and the Human sat quietly side by side as the afternoon turned into evening and approached night.
Liam slowly extended his hand toward Da'an. The Taelon gently placed his smaller hand into his Protector's larger. The man smiled as he weaved his fingers in between Da'an's. Neither of them spoke, but words weren't needed for the two of them to communicate.
The two of them watched as night fell . . .
