Flippin' heck! It's not slash! Gets a little mushy though...and you need to have read 'Waiting for Starscream' at first for the continuity, but it's a sweet little slice of fluff.
Home.
He stood quietly, watching Skyfire fixing some minor entry in one of the lab's monitors. If he concentrated hard enough he could almost imagine they were back in the Science Academy, watching Skyfire demonstrate some experiment or other - then when he'd finished the scientist would look up at him and smile, and say...
"...Starscream? Are you alright?"
The seeker jumped out of his daydream, falling back to Stormworld with a bump. "...What? Oh - yes, I just...switched to standby, I suppose." He smiled distractedly at Skyfire, quickly trying to counter anything the scientist might think otherwise.
It didn't work.
Starscream may have had millennia of practice at being a liar, but Skyfire still knew his seeker - especially when their link told him that Starscream was anything but alright. He looked at his partner, who stared nonchalantly back as if he hadn't a care in the world - an expression that did everything short of sending him a signal flare.
"You should know by now I can tell when you're lying" he said gently, standing up.
"Me?" Starscream bluffed, optics wide and honest. The expert liar out of his depth.
"Of course you. Who else?" The seeker stared at Skyfire for a long moment. Then he tipped his head back and leant casually against the wall. He even managed to hide the slight, insistent trembling in his wings. "It's nothing important."
Skyfire crouched in front of him, optic to optic. "If it's bothering you then it's important. To me, at least."
Starscream looked up at him, the smile becoming shaky as the facade began to crack. "It's...foolish, really. I'm not normally superstitious, but -" Skyfire waited patiently as the seeker trailed off, sensing a troubling mix of awkwardness and - most alarmingly - a tinge of fear in his partner. He 'felt' Starscream stomp on the fluttering swirl of horror to no effect - unconsciously broadcasting his rising panic, Starscream looked up with sudden desperation in his optics. "Skyfire, I -"
The scientist knelt and held Starscream's arms, feeling his companion tremble in his hands like a bird. The contact was enough to make the seeker blurt out- "I can't lose you again! The satellites - there's a lightening storm brewing. A violent one, worse than the normal squalls...losing you before nearly killed me. If something happened..."
Skyfire wrapped his arms around Starscream, holding him close. The seeker shook, clinging to the scientist as if he was about to be torn away again, holding on so tight he dented Skyfire's plating. They stayed that way for several minutes, the larger jet sending reassurance and comfort down their link, until Starscream had recovered himself enough to stem the storm of fear and worry coursing through him, gradually returning fainter, calmer signals of his own.
I'm all right. Honestly. I just...
I know. I love you too.
You won't...
I promise.
Always?
For ever.
Wherever you are, I'm home. I need you. Both of you. Don't lose me again...
Never. I swear it.
The End.
There - wasn't that cute? One thing though - Starscream and Skyfire are © Hasbro or whoever. They ain't mine, ok? I do own the story, though. 'Tis mine.
