"Shallow and judgmental, ha! Who does she think she is anyways?" Mush was kicking stones as he walked down the sidewalk. He usually rode the bus home but today he missed it because he spent too much time trying to change out of his outfit.
As he approached his house he saw his next door neighbor out working in his garage. It was Mr. Spadelli. Mr. Spadelli was a science teacher at Mush's high school. Mr. Spadelli was like a second father to Mush. He was a short structured and chubby man. He wore very thick glasses but he was the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Mr. Spadelli appeared to be working on something. He was trying to make a machine but no one knew what. He liked to keep it a secret.
"Heya Mr. Spaghetti!" Mush waved as he approached the garage. Kids always tried to call Mr. Spadelli, Mr. Spaghetti. Mush was the only on that could call him Mr. Spaghetti.
"Oh hi Mr. Myers, how are you doing?"
Mush went over and sat on a stool.
"Alright I guess."
Mr. Spadelli put down the tool he was working with and approached Mush.
"Why so down in the dumps?"
"I don't know Mr. Spaghetti. It's hard to explain." Mush always went to Mr. Spadelli when he had a problem. Mr. Spadelli was always there for Mush, no matter what time of the day or night. Mush's real father wasn't exactly someone you would call a father. He was always drunk and was never home.
"Do you think I'm shallow?"
"Well I don't know Mush, it depends on the situation."
"I mean when it comes to girls."
"Oh I see Mr. Myers." Mr. Spadelli got up and started walking around the room.
"What? Mr. Spaghetti please tell me. You know you can always be honest with me."
"Well you see Mush, I see you at school with your friends and you're not always the nicest to some girls, especially that Chloe-Lynn. I wouldn't call you shallow Mr. Myers but you do have to respect women."
"Why is everyone talking about respect for? I think I show respect to everyone."
"Not actually Mush, I mean you do think highly of yourself. Not that it's a bad thing but you have to learn when enough is enough. You see Mush, girls are princesses. They are like gems. They are beautiful, precious, and valuable, and you have to treat them as such."
"I just always thought girls should only be with one guy and the guy would collect all that he can. I was always taught that guys are superior to girls."
"Not at all Mr. Myers. Girls aren't just a collector's item, they are gems and jewels. They are the diamonds."
"But real diamonds are rare, which is why most people only have one. You see Mush, girls are diamonds and princesses. They are royalty and should be treated as such. Treat girls as you would treat a real diamond. You want to keep it safe, treat it well, so it never fades."
"It's so hard to do that Mr. Spaghetti. I don't know how."
"Put yourself in their shoes sometime. See what it's like to be them for once."
Mush just started laughing.
"Already tried that." They heard a crack of thunder far off in the distance.
"Sounds like a storm is approaching." Mr. Spadelli said looking at the fat cumulus clouds going by. "I'm gonna give my mother a call quick. Mush will you watch this for a second." Mr. Spadelli ran into his house, leaving Mush in the garage. Mush stopped outside and looked towards the sky. He saw lightening flash in the sky above and heard the cracking of the thunder.
Mush had the appearance that he wasn't afraid of anything but in all reality he was terrified of thunderstorms.
Mush had gone over to the machine. It consisted of two chairs beside each other. It stood about five feet high with all kinds of wires running out of the back. In the middle was a big red button that said push. Mush was so tempted to push the button but he knew that he couldn't. Just as he got about eight inches away, there was a loud crack of thunder. The storm drew closer. Just as the thunder cracked above, Mush heard a voice.
"Mush?" He fell forward, hitting the button. The thunder and the voice had scared him. He jumped when he head the loud sound made as the machine turned on. He turned around to see Lexie.
"Lexie what are you doing here?" He said sitting in the chair attached to the machine.
"I should ask you the same question." She looked up and down at the machine. "What is that?"
Mush looked up at the machine, while still sitting in the chair. "I don't know. Mr. Spaghetti won't tell. Top secret."
"Mr. Spaghetti? Now aren't we grown up." Lexie said approaching the machine. Once again there was another crack of thunder. Mush jumped once again.
"Are we a little scared of thunder?" Lexie giggled.
"I'm not scared, it was a reflex."
"Yeah right." Lexie said inspecting the machine more closely now.
"What are you doing here anyways Lexie?"
"I'm getting help from Mr. Spadelli for something for the science fair."
"Science fair? What a nerd."
"What is this?" Lexie asked.
"Well Lexie being as you just asked me that about five seconds ago, let me see if I know." Mush acted as if he was thinking. "Um nope, still don't know."
"I mean this smart-aleck." Lexie said pointing to a small tube with green liquid in, which was bubbling.
"That appears to be a small tube with bubbling green liquid."
"Maybe we should turn it off."
"Well Einstein, if you can decide which plug turns it off, then be my guest." Mush said pointing to a group of about five plugs.
"Pull them all before the lightening strikes it and it really goes off." Lexie said.
"I'm not pulling."
"Oh so you would rather I die."
"Well no, not actually but..."
KA-BOOM! The machine suddenly set off. The garage went pitch back and Mush was blown back.
I want to thank Glimm, SnitchsLins, and Scout 73 for reviewing. Thanks guys!~
