Chapter 3: The Fight

*Spike's POV*

'Just another night in Sunnyhell. Not a bloody thing to do. No one to fight. No demons to kill.'

I had walked to the Bronze to see if any of Buffy's friends were there. No one was though. I wondered where they were. I walked to Buffy's house, but no one was there either. What are they doing? I decided I'd be better off walking through the cemeteries, looking for something to kill. I tried to convince myself that I wasn't looking for Buffy.

'Man, she's really something. I'd love to be with her. Just for a little while. She doesn't love me though. Hell, she doesn't even like me. She's all over soldier boy. What's so special about him?...Oh, that's right... He's "normal." Whatever that means.'

I went through three cemeteries and nothing was happening. I moved on to my cemetary to my crypt. Dawn was only a few hours away. Maybe I could catch some television before sunrise. I had walked through the gates and started for home when I heard screaming.

I broke into a run trying to get to wherever it was that the screams were coming from. I reached an old crmbling mausoleum in the opposite direction from the gates as my crypt. When I ran behind it I saw what the screams were for. Six very strong and well-trained vampires were fighting the Slayer. She was doing well but I knew she needed help.

I jumped into the fight just as she dusted one vamp. Silently I hoped that she'd realize who I was and not mistake me for one that she was fighting. It'd be my luck to try and help the girl and end up being a pile of dust with the rest of them. I don't think she ever noticed me fighting because she dusted two more vamps and turned to the remaining three. They were fierce fighters and it looked as if they may just win.

They began to punch, kick, and push her. She ended up on the ground. I stepped up behind them as they continued to beat her. One was yelling, "Don't kill her!" All I could think was 'Why not? Just what are you up to?' Before they heard me I staked the biggest through his back directly into his heart. The last two turned to me as I shifted into my game face.

"William the Bloody. I heard you'd gone soft, turned over to the good side." The vampires were staring at me like I was the worst evil on earth.

"Actually, some secret government agency decided to put a bloody chip in my head. I can't hurt anything. 'Cept demons that is." I pulled a stake from a pocket in my leather coat. They glanced at it, then back at me.

I threw a punch at the one closest to me. He was taken by surprise, but recovered quickly and began to fight. THe other one tried to pick Buffy up but she picked a stake up and as he raised her in his arms she positioned the stake to slice through his heart. He never noticed until he felt it and then he was reduced to a pile of dust in seconds. I continued to fight, but the vamp was distracted as he watched his friend disappear. It gave me the perfect chance to kill him. Now six little piles of dust littered the ground.
