((Ok, the pairings: definite Remus/Lily, with suggested Remus/Sirius and (hopefully) definite Remus/Sirius later on. I'm playin' on both teams here! hehheh. Ok! If you don't like suggested slash, turning into (but not yet) definite slash (nothing graphic though, don't worry. I'm a good little girl! hehe) then please discontinue your reading endeavor! lol. R & R! All my love, ~Lizney Wolf~))

+++++++ To Know True Love Chapter One Boredom, as per normal +++++++

Professor Binns was droning, as he always droned, his voice like a hot, damp breeze on a miserable summer day. No one was paying him any mind, finding it much easier to sleep away the forty-five minute period rather than fighting to stay awake. That is, everyone except two almost-alert faces at the back of the dimly lit room.

One face was female, framed by fiery red curls, and punctuated by sparkling green eyes. Lily was gently sucking on the tip of her quill, the ink on the parchment that lay unrolled in front of her was still wet. Every so often, when the green in her eyes began to dull, she would shake her head and jot down a random note from Binns' never ending lecture. Though her notes were haphazard and sparse, hardly giving the Giant wars any justice, they were much better than the notes of James Potter. They were more covered with drool than with ink.

The other alert face, beside that of Miss Lily Evans, was male. It was pale, thin and peaky, surrounded by soft tufts of golden brown hair. Remus's bright amber eyes were wide with the effort of staying awake, and he too was scratching at his a parchment every so often with his hawk- feathered quill.

However, even though this usually attentive Gryffindor seemed like his good ol' responsible self, still diligently taking notes while the rest of his class slept away the afternoon, Remus's mind was on something /very/ far away from any Giant war.

But, what it was, he wasn't even prepared to admit to himself and certainly not to any random reader who was currently looking in on their class at the moment. He shook his head, clearing the blurry, warm images that had been convulsing there, and instead took to studying the back of the black haired head before him.

"Sirius...." One, long, pale finger prodded the sleeping dog-boy in the back. Sirius's head jerked up, followed by a murmur: Yes, he was awake. He had been awake for some time. Taking notes, like a good boy, he was. And with the luck only a Marauder could possess, as the tip of Sirius's quill touched parchment, a loud resounding bell came from the very heart of the school.

"Thank Merlin," Sirius muttered, gathering up his things and shoving them into his bag, leaning against his desk while he waited for the rest of his friends. His navy blue eyes shimmered with amusement as Lily began to barrage James with reasons why Head Boys stayed awake in class. James, blurry eyed and half-awake, was nodding in estranged agreement.

"It's no use, Lily. You can take the boy out of the mischief, but you can't take the mischief out of the boy," Remus gave James a prod with the toe of his trainer, giving Lily a wink, clearing his mind of any of the thoughts that had been trailing there, and swinging his bag over her shoulder.

The four...ahem...the five of them, Peter took up the end of their little cluster, scurrying in their wake, left the room and began to sprint happily toward lunch. Lily and James fell into step, and she was gently flattening his hair, still telling him that if he wanted to be respected by the student body he would have to start taking some responsibilities. He needn't tell her that he didn't need the respect of the student body, he already had them under his little Snitch capturing fingers. Something like that would just make her angry, and so James stayed quiet all the way into the Great Hall.

Remus and Sirius also fell into even strides, their books clutched to their chests and their shoulders knocking against each other. Sirius was smiling juvenilely, making these moments of contact more frequent.

Remus would have usually played along, and they would thump into each other into one or both of them stumbled to the ground in a fit of childish giggles. But not today. Today Remus gave Sirius a slight, but non- indignant, shove.

"Gerroff, Siri." Sirius was taken aback, but fell back into a calm step, content in thinking that Moony was uneasy over the nearing full moon.

If only it were that simple.
