((A chapter in which not much happens, but we learn what is troubling our poor little Remmy so much! As you may have realized from the first chapter, one part of this fic is based on the fact that Remus and Sirius already have a relationship. If you have a problem with suggested slash (possibly turning into...erm...definite slash) than please discontinue your reading endeavor! All my love, ~Lizney Wolf~))

+++++++++++ To Know True Love Chapter Two My Mind Betrays Me +++++++++++

Through the Entrance Hall, past scores of students and ghosts and familiars, into the Great Hall, past the Slytherins, past the Huffulpuffs, past the Ravenclaws and finally settled at the Gryffindor table.

The Great Hall was looking much like it always did. There were dozens upon dozens of candles floating above the house tables, being prodded or jinxed at by bored students, the light of which added to the gloom coming from the cloudy ceiling. There was the usual murmur of talk and roar of other noises including giggles and hoots and childish shrieks and the brief yelling of a fight that may or may not commence. The air was filled with flashes from student's wands (that should have been securely in their bags), countless owls (that should have been safely in the Owlrey), and food that should have stayed on plates but instead was being thrown at friends and at foes.

And of coarse, seated beside each other at the Gryffindor table, Sirius Black and James Potter were giving new meaning to the phrase 'tucking in'.

They were leaning into their plates so that the amount of time that it would take their forks to travel from the table to their mouths would be as short as possible. But this was not needed, as speed seemed to be what the boys used the most in this eatathon. Their cutlery was traveling so quickly Remus was hardly able to tell if the fork was going or coming from it's journey to the dark abysses that were his friend's stomachs.

Lily was staring in disgusted awe, the same expression she wore at every meal that she had with either Marauder. She clutched at the hand nearest her own, which happened to be Remus', and squeezed it, muttering loud enough for all to hear, "My boyfriend eats like a troll."

Sirius began to laugh, the crumpet he had just placed in his mouth puffing out like a thick, moist cloud. This caused him to snort even louder, and he swallowed with a bit of difficulty, but not before most of his food ended up in his lap.

"He looks like one too...you should see him in the morning," Sirius chortled, wiping his mouth with his otherwise unused napkin. He glanced up at Remus, "Isn't that right, Moony?" His eyes were bright with laughter, and he didn't wait for an answer, giving the red faced James a shove.

It's good that Sirius wasn't exactly looking for an answer from his tawny haired friend, because Remus wouldn't have given him any. He hadn't heard a word of the conversation going on around him for a good few moments. He was looking down at his hand, the one that Lily (currently laughing, her red curls bouncing on her shoulders) was still holding.

And for the first time since they left the History of Magic room, he allowed himself to think about what had been filling his dreams for the past few weeks.

Lily Evans.

Her fiery curls falling past her shoulders in beautiful, soft waves. And those eyes, they seemed as if they could see right through you. She was glorious, funny, stunning...and Remus had fallen in...well he had fallen in something with her, that was for damn sure. The feelings he was having surely weren't nothing, or else he could have easily ignored them.

But no...Lily wasn't allowing herself to be ignored. Every time she laughed, Remus' heart would skip a few beats. Every time she shifted in her seat in classes, Remus would look to see if there was something she needed help with. Every time she walked into a room, Remus made certain he was seated or standing beside her. He wanted to be in her presence always, and most of all, he wanted to hold her and bury his face into that flurry of hair.

Wait!

God, this was what he was trying to prevent. Thinking these things made the feelings too real. He needed to disregard them. But it was just getting so difficult. He hadn't felt this way toward anyone...not since Sirius.

Oh, God, Sirius.

How could he fall for someone else, a girl no less, when he had Sirius? And yes, he had fallen. And yes, Remus had Sirius utterly and completely in his wolfy grasp. Or they had each other. They'd been an almost item for quite some time...until now. Remus wasn't sure where his infatuations lay. He had thought he was certain which side of the fence he'd been leaning on. But the fence was broken now, and he had fallen through, and now he wasn't sure which way he truly wanted to go.

Remus sighed, he heard the noises but not the words of the continued conversation of his friends, and there was Lily's voice again. It was so distinct, lilting and quiet, with a kind of power that you only heard if you got to know her really well. Yes, she was talking to...to someone.

"Remus! Are you with us at the moment?" Good lord, she was talking to him! Remus started, realizing she had taken her hand off of his quite a while ago. He looked up at her, into her eyes and had to immediately look away. "Remus, are you ok?"

Remus' gaze fell across the table and he met with two concerned looks from each Sirius and James. Remus' eyes grew wide and he blushed with embarrassment, scorning himself for his foolishness, and running his sweating palms through his hair.

"Erm...yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just...just not feeling well." He gave them a smile and tried to get up from the table gracefully, which he failed at doing. Once he had picked himself off the floor, he flicked his hair out of his face and gave the table another lackluster smile.

"I'm just going to go to the dorm. Ok? Tell...tell Flitwick that...that I'm under the weather." He began to stroll away from the table and out into the Entrance Hall, hearing the worried murmurs from Lily and James behind him.

A hand caught at Remus' arm before he could get through the doors to the Entrance Hall and he turned to see Sirius' anxious face. "Do you want to go to the Hospital Wing?" Sirius asked, his right hand rubbing his left lower arm, a sign that he was nervous.

Remus smiled lopsidedly, and took up Sirius' incessantly traveling hand. "I'm fine," he said matter-of-factly, "I just need to lay down." And with a final smile, he walked awkwardly out into the Entrance Hall and nearly tore up the marble stair case to the Gryffindor commons.
