Chapter 17
Well y'all, I'm finally getting the parents in here. Let's see how they react to Domon and Rain's little romance! Hope ya like it!
- Rain's Point Of View -
It was silent. Not awkward, but silent.
Domon sat very close to me, holding my hand. I knew he wanted me, wanted to kiss me and hold me, but he was holding back due to the fact that my parents would be here within the quarter hour, and he wanted to keep it low profile. I'm glad. If he had gone ahead and done something, I don't think I would have stopped him.
He's so gorgeous!
What's a girl to do when a beautiful man has his arms around you, whispering in your ear, playing with your hair?!?! It's just a dilemma.
But any way, we were just sitting there, when I suddenly remembered something.
"Domon, how much do my parents know? I mean, about Seitt and all?"
He looked at me, a bit helplessly, and sighed.
"Everything. In minor details and all, but everything."
Something else occurred to me.
"Who told them?"
"Well, apparently, the first two officers we talked too were real police officers. They were allegedly bound by the fake ones and thrown in an office supply closet, but they managed to call for help after we left the building. So, we don't have to go in for any more interviews by the police. They already have everything we told them on record."
I smiled broadly at him, squeezing his hand tight. He quickly looked to the door, and, seeing no one there or near, briefly captured my lips. I let him, figuring it would be the last time we kissed for a day and a half.
When we broke apart, it was his turn for a question.
"I can't stay here the entire time you know. I have to give you some alone time with your parents. I'll leave early, okay?"
"Well," I reasoned, "fine, if that's what you feel. But promise you'll be here really early tomorrow morning? Like you were today? I might have another nightmare..."
He lifted a hand and caressed my cheek.
"Of course."
I smile.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
He took hold of my hand, and we stay in this moment, lost to all others, just the two of us. Until...
- Domon's Point Of View -
...the door opens.
I see Rain's mom standing in the doorway, a soft expression on her face. The concern is obvious, but I could swear I see a look of...understanding... too. I know she's never gone through something like this, so what could she possibly understand?
Rain and I in love?
Oh, no it can't be that obvious...
"MOMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Rain throws up her arms like a child wanting to be picked up. Mrs. Mikamura runs over and gives her daughter a huge hug as her father steps into the room. I look at him, and our eyes connect. He studies me for a minute, a long minute, before smiling broadly and holding his hand out for a shake.
"Domon!" he says, as if I was his child too.
I give in, smile, shake his hand, and hug him one handed. As we step away, I see Rain and her mother have broken apart, and Rain is staring at me with a smile and watery eyes. I smile at her too before I look to her mother. She has moved aside as Mr. Mikamura is hugging Rain. I open my arms to her, and we hug.
As we all break apart, I can see that this isn't going to be as hard as I thought.
"Oh Domon, look at you! We haven't see you in years!" Mrs. Mikamura exclaimed.
I couldn't help but laugh.
"Well here I am!" I replied, not knowing what else to say.
"And I couldn't be more glad." Mrs. Mikamura said with a wink, "If I've heard correctly, you both have been through a lot in the past weeks, and I'm glad Rain had you. I wouldn't have liked it any other way."
She patted my hand with a smile, and I seriously started to wonder if she knew about Rain and me. Motherly instinct tends to be good with these sorts of things.
Mrs. Mikamura went and sat at Rain's bedside, and I caught a look on Rain's face. She was thrilled, and I know it was partly because her parents were responding so well to me. I was just as floored, this was easy so far. She turned to her daughter, this time with a worried expression
"How are you honey?"
"I'm holding up pretty well. The food stinks, and these mattresses aren't too comfortable, but I'm alright."
Touching the mattress, Mrs. Mikamura tried to discover the uncomfortable part.
"But you're getting adequate sleep, right?"
Rain winked at me.
"I sure am."
"Good." She said with an earnest smile.
"Well," her father interjected, "I'm glad you're alright physically, but how about mentally? Or Emotionally?"
Rain looked at him, her mom, me, and back at her dad.
"Mentally, I'm average. With that, I'm just trying to deal with the injury part of it, trying to keep a hopeful view for the future. Emotionally, I'm so-so. The whole Seitt thing really gets to my head. Screws up my judgment, my self-image, the ability to trust myself and others, and especially, trying to trust men again."
She paused before adding an after thought.
"But, I have had Domon. You guys wouldn't believe how much he's helped me get through this. He helps me fix everything that Seitt screwed up; especially the trust issues Seitt left me with. He's been there every step of the way, and I can't thank him enough."
She smiled at me with watery eyes, and I smiled back.
"Sure." I grin.
"Yeah Domon," Mr. Mikamura patted me on the back, "thanks a million for everything."
We started talking casually after that, for another hour or so. But soon, glancing to the clock, I stand up. It was 8:30, and I figured that I needed to give Rain and her parents some time alone.
"Well you guys, I think I'm about ready to take off. I'll see you later."
They all looked in my direction. I shook Mr. Mikamura's hand and kissed Mrs. Mikamura lightly on the cheek. Looking at Rain, I sat on her bedside and pulled her into a hug. I held her tight for just a moment before kissing her forehead and pulling away, walking towards the door.
"Bye!" I say, shutting the door behind me.
- Rain's Point Off View -
Domon closes the door quietly, and I stare after him with a smile. I can't help it. I just...need him.
I finally pull myself away, and my mom is sitting there staring at me with a grin.
"You're in love with him."
I smile, almost laugh, and try to play it down.
"No!"
She smiles knowingly and just says it again.
"I can tell. Just the way you look at each other! Yes. You're in love with him."
All I can do is avoid her eyes. She lowers her tone of voice to a loud whisper.
"And I'm sure those pearls just dropped out of the sky."
At that, I smile. I try to fight it, but it proves worthless. I smile big and broad, giving it all away.
"OKAY, alright, sure, fine." I say in an exasperated voice.
I take a deep breath, let it out, and speak.
"I'm in love with him."
My mother squeals and jumps up to hug me.
"Yay!!!! YAY!!!!! Rain's in love with Domon!!"
She dances around the room a little, excited beyond belief.
Taking my gaze from my mother, I look to my father, wondering what he thinks. He just smiles, hands clasped together, and stares at me with an understanding expression.
"I'm glad you are happy Rain. Domon is a good man. He will help you and protect you. I couldn't have made a better match for you myself."
I smile and my eyes start to water at his kind words. My mom stops dancing, looking at me.
"So, what's been happening between you two?" she says with a glint in her eye.
I think about that for a minute before I answer.
"Well, ever since Domon came to my rescue, we've just gotten closer and closer. He saved my mental life the first time, my physical life the second time, and my emotional life every moment in-between. I just connect with him so well. He has this soft side whenever we're together, putting me and my needs first, always looking out for me, making sure I'm all right. He's beating himself up for not being able to save me this time, wishing it were him who was shot."
Pulling in another breath, I finish with a smile.
"I guess, when it comes down too it...I love him."
My mom, unable to contain herself, lets out another squeal, and kisses me on both cheeks. I laugh and grin as she exclaims something about grandkids. My father comes to my bedside, kisses my forehead, and speaks...much more calmly than my mother.
"Now, Rain, honey, Domon is an excellent match for you. If what you say is true, than I have no objections to you and Domon being together. All I can wish you is happiness."
I pull him into a hug as tears of happiness stream silently down my face. After a minute, we pull away.
"Well," my father says, "it's been a long time since my little girl cried on my shoulder."
I laugh as he stands.
"It's late. We'd better go." He states.
"Yes," agrees my mother, "but don't worry. We won't be back 'til twelve tomorrow."
My brow furrows as my eyes question as to why they won't be here.
"After all," she says with a sly grin, "we need to give you two some time to talk."
How will Rain let Domon know her parents know about them?
How will this change the easy going atmosphere when the parents arrive tomorrow?
WILL MRS. MIKAMURA BE ABLE TO CONTAIN HERSELF????
