Chapter #3: Sick and Tired

*~*~*Elaya's Apartment--Elaya's POV*~*~*

You know that nasty icky feeling that you get in your throat just before you get a cold? Yeah, well, I woke up with one of those. Ack! I'm gonna be sick during the whole trip! Dammit!

Sitting up in bed, I look out my door to see my mom rushing around. "Honey, so glad that you're up. I'm off to work. Okay?"

"Mom, I don't feel good." I whine much like a child would.

She stopped at my door and put her hands on her hips. "And what do you want me to do about it?"

"Stay home and make me soup?" I managed to smile.

Shaking her head, she continued. "Honey, you're an adult now. Make your own soup. I have some of that 'Instant Noodle' stuff in the cupboard."

I frowned. I can't believe my mom would leave me alone to fend for myself when I have some sort of disease in my system--okay, it was just a cold, but come on! "Please?" I made the best puppy-eyes ever.....but it didn't faze her one bit.....I guess KaibaCorp is too important for her....

"I don't have time for an iddy-bitty cold. E, you're old enough to take care of yourself. We have some medicine in the cabinet. As long as you don't overdose, I'm sure that you'll be fine." She explained.

"Who needs you?!" I cry as I stumble into the kitchen. I make my way into the medicine cabinet and sigh. "Do we have ANY medicine that ISN'T five years old?" Seriously, I remember seeing this stuff when I was twelve! It's the same bottles with the nasty purple stains that mark the time where I didn't close the bottle properly and it exploded inside the box.

"E-baby," my mom started, walking towards me "This stuff is fresh. I got it a couple of weeks ago at the Pharmacy. It's just the same brands, that's all."

"Sure it is." I nodded, stressing the 'u-r' sound. Taking out some cough syrup, I quickly took a teaspoon and swallowed the substance that tastes like shoe polish. How I know what shoe polish tastes like, don't ask.

"This stuff is nasty!"

"That's why it's medicine. You gotta take something that's bad to make you feel good." My mom said, smiling.

"That's not funny." I mumbled. Hey, she wasn't the one tasting this crap.

"Alright." She gave me a quick peck on the cheek. "See you later, okay? Feel better." My mom smiled and headed out the door.

"No thanks to you!" I cried, laughing as far as my sore throat would allow. She said 'good-bye' one final time before heading off to work for my boyfriend.....whoa....never thought of it that way.......Wow. My mom is working for my boyfriend! That's so weird!

Getting prepared, I grabbed a box of tissues, three bottles of water and a bunch of snacks--chocolate-coated of course--and plopped myself on the couch in front of the television. Okay daytime T.V., take me away!

*~*~*Inside the Puzzle--Reader's POV*~*~*

"Me? Take advice from the likes of you? Don't make me laugh Yami Marik....You are nothing more than a....--for lack of better words--....a figment of my imagination." Yami Bakura sneered. [There is no way I'm taking advice from this idiot.]

"You listen here Yami Bakura. I am your last and only ally and I doubt you want me working against you." Yami Marik countered.

"But you see you don't really exist."

Yami Marik stood silent; his purple-black cape floated in the nothingness of the darkness. "I may be in the Shadow Realm, but I exist to you Yami Bakura."

The white haired spirit growled. "I wish you didn't."

"I do. And you're stuck with me."

"No, I am not." Yami Bakura shouted. "As long as I don't communicate with you, you don't exist. Not to me, not to anyone. The way it should be."

"Really? You think that that is how it works?" Yami Marik asked. "Then try it and see what happens you fool."

"With pleasure." Yami Bakura laughed as he simply turned away and did not think about him. [There. He's gone. No more nonsense--AH!] A sharp pain ran in Yami Bakura's mind. "AH! You bastard! What are you doing to me?!" Holding his head he fell to the ground.

Laughing, the purple-eyed evil spirit walked closer to the fallen Yami Bakura. "You see? You and I share a bond. Since we have communicated before, our minds are open to one another's ideas, thoughts......" He stopped. He leaned his head closer to Yami Bakura's ear and whispered silently "......and powers."

Grimacing, the white haired spirit stood, pushing past the other. "If you don't like my plan, stay away from me."

"Yami Bakura, every time you try to shut me out, I'll still be there. Ready to send some more Shadow powers through our link--my way"

"Then what do you want with me?! If you refuse to abide by my rules--" Yami Bakura started with his brown eyes full of anger.

"--Then abide by mine."

"You wish." Yami Bakura clenched his fist in anger. "I am not following the rules of a moron like you! You've already failed against the Pharaoh!"

"So have you. More than ONCE I might add." Folding his arms across his chest, Yami Marik smiled. [He knows that I'm right....]

Muttering something under his breath, Yami Bakura furrowed his brow. "What will you accomplish that I won't?"

"A lot more than you could possibly imagine."

"What a load of shit. You know that you are incapable of doing so, you've failed once before.....what makes this any different?" The white haired spirit asked.

"Because we have the upper hand." Yami Marik smiled. "You are still undiscovered....so we have the element of surprise.....We also know a lot more than what the Pharaoh does....."

"About what?"

"Him." Smirking, Yami Bakura caught on and nodded [Hmmm.....maybe this won't be so bad....Two heads are better than one I suppose.....] "You've got yourself a deal, partner."

*~*~*Dorm Room--Yugi's POV*~*~*

"Dennis? Where are my grey socks?!" I shout as I try to pack up my stuff. Dennis was my roommate who occasionally--okay, more like always--wore my stuff. He was about my height and was always stealing my extra socks, shirts and jackets.

"Check the hamper." He called from the washroom.

"I already did!" I cried, looking under my bed. "Dennis! I told you to put stuff that you use of mine back where it came from! I'm leaving campus in two hours and I'm missing three pairs of socks!"

Stumbling out of the washroom, he muttered, "Sorry little dude. Didn't know that you'd be stingy on a pair of socks."

Little dude? I HATE it when he calls me 'little dude'. "Look, it's not about the socks! You need to be more responsible--ah, forget it! I'll tell my Grandpa that they got lost in the laundry shoot." What was the point in TRYING to tell this guy? It always went in one ear and out the other.

"Sorry man. I'll be more careful." Yeah, right. He disappears into the washroom again. Man, how did I get stuck with that idiot? How did he even get in this university?! Grabbing a few more of my items off the floor, I through them in the luggage and try to zip it up. Oh no....it's not budging.....shoot.....I don't get it. How can stuff fit into a luggage coming here and then not fit going back home?!

Managing to sit on top of my luggage, I finally zipped it up and placed it by the door. Making sure that Dennis was still in the washroom, I grabbed the box in my closet and put it behind my luggage. I triple checked that I had the three Egyptian God Cards in the box with the Items as well....I can't believe that I'm gonna see the gang again.....

\ Yugi? \ Atem asked within our mind-link.

/ Yes? / A strange silence passed. One of those eerie silences you hear on those horror movies before the slasher comes out......Okay; this is not the time to be thinking of that stuff.......

\ Never mind. \

What the heck was that all about? He sounded so worried; so anxious to tell me something before, then he just stops? / Atem? What happened? /

\ Don't worry \ He answered calmly.

/ I won't stop worrying until you tell me! / I demanded.

Sighing, he whispered silently \ I feel something odd Yugi. \

Odd? What kind of odd? / What do you mean? /

\ I feel as if something is disturbing my mind. \ He answered, still in a whispered tone.

Disturbing his mind? / I don't understand......Explain what you mean Atem.... /

\ I do not know myself Yugi. I just felt as if something was....I can not seem to explain it....It was as if something was.....I don't know.......As if something was disrupting my mind...... \ Atem tried to explain.

I don't get it.....Something is in his mind now? That doesn't make any sense..... / Atem, I'm sorry, but I still don't-- /

\ --then forget it....Forget that I even mentioned it....Quickly Yugi, your 'taxi' will be coming soon.... \ I tried to contact him again, but he shut me out.

With shaky hands, I grabbed my luggage and left the dorm room. "Bye Dennis! See you next year!" I called into the small dorm.

"Later little dude! Have a great summer!"

I waited patiently for my taxi to come pick me up outside at the front entrance of the university. I had my plane ticket handy in my black coat's pocket that would bring me back to Domino.

Where I belong.

*~*~*Elaya's Apartment--Elaya's POV*~*~*

I've gone through over three boxes of tissues in the past five hours....New record.....And I never thought I'd say this but I hate television.......How many Day time dramas can I withstand without going insane?

I lie down on the couch and groan. Officially, I look and feel nasty. My nose and eyes are all red, my throat kills and I'm still in my pyjamas--not that I'm complaining about the last thing. I grab the blanket, pull it over my head and wait patiently for the extra-drowsy medication to kick in.

Ding Dong

Or not. I throw the blanket over my head and walk to the door. Opening it, I see Mai Valentine.

"Hi hun!" She says with a wave. "Oh. You don't look so good..."

"Yeah. I know." I reply, coughing a bit. "What brings you here?"

"Well, Joey and Tristan are coming home today and Joey called me to go meet him at the train station. I was on my way over and noticed your house and I thought you would like to come along...." Mai explained.

"I...uh...." I was kinda lost for words. Number one; I was in my pyjamas........Number two; that medicine was already fogging up my head. "Sure. Lemme just get dressed." As much as I love being sick--note the sarcasm--I'd rather give Joey and Tristan a virus.

I walked as quickly as I could into my room and got dressed. Black pants, grey tank top. Simple, yet nice. "I'm coming!" I call out, felling a bit more energy in me. I grabbed those little packets of tissues, a bottle of water and my trench coat and walked back to the door.

"You sure you wanna come? You are looking a bit 'under the weather' Elaya..." Mai said concerned.

"Don't worry.....I'll be fine, it's just a cold anyways..." I explained. Getting into her blue car, I suddenly felt so happy. I'm gonna see those two idiots again......Man, I haven't seen them in a year!

Smiling, I lean back in my seat and didn't even notice when sleep took over me.

*~*

YEAH! Chappie three done!!! And in a quick time too!

Well, hope you all like what's going on. If you don't, well, I can't force you to read. Yugi and the gang will be heading for Egypt in about two chappies, so hang tight!
