Chapter #6: Take-Off?
*~*~*Elaya's Apartment--Elaya's POV*~*~*
"Elaya! This is the last and FINAL time I will be waking you up! GET UP!" My mom screamed from a couple of rooms ahead of mine.
"Mm!" I call back angrily, head still in the pillow. I went to bed late last night......I was up until one o'clock in the morning with Joey, Tristan and the new arrival, Yugi! Téa called around 11:30 last night saying that her flight got a little side-tracked so she would see us tomorrow at the airport. Whoa...I don't know about you, but going on two long, consecutive plane rides would kill me......
I hear pounding footsteps coming towards me....Oh no.....
"ELAYA!" My mom shouted RIGHT into my ear.
"ACK!" Jumping nearly a foot out of bed, I finally woke up to see my mother smiling. "There? Now was that so hard? Get up, E-baby. It's almost ten o'clock in the morning....and you still need to finish packing."
Oh shit! GAH! I have to meet them in less than an hour! "Mom?! Why didn't you wake me up earlier?!" I cried, sitting up in bed.
"I tried....but you wouldn't listen. I suggest that you finish packing and get ready to go...." She said as she left my room.
"What? You're not gonna help me?!" I cry. "Keh! FINE! I'll do it myself!"
That's right, I'm not done packing, even though I had a week to do it....I was going to do it last night, but the guys were over! Stupid Joey and his stupid jokes! Grumbling, I throw the seats off the bed and head for the washroom. Taking a quick shower, I come back into my room in search of a clean pair of clothing. Perfect; a pair of beige cargos and a black tank top. This should keep me cool for the first day in Egypt.........
Grabbing the necessary clothing and toiletries and shoving them into my already packed suitcase, I shout out, "Done! Yes!" Double-checking that I have everything I need—including my passport and flight stuff—I scramble back into the kitchen with a hairbrush in hand, going straight for the fridge.
"You know, it would have been A LOT nicer on your part if you helped me out!" I say, grabbing the milk and a bowl.
"I have been helping you. I called Kaiba to tell him to come pick you up quarter to eleven."
"Really?!" Okay, this tops everything. Man, I almost forgot to get a ride! "Thanks!" Hugging her, almost dropping the milk carton, I run towards the cabinet and find the cereal. Practically swallowing it whole, I rush back to the washroom to brush my teeth. "Mom? Where's my tooth—never mind!" I forgot that I already packed it. Instead, I just rinsed my mouth out with mouthwash, and then washed my face.
"So, hun, you all set?" She asks, so nonchalant.
"Yup.........no thanks to you though........" I add with a smirk.
"You gonna be alright?"
"Yeah, don't worry about me...." I turn to face her, just before she hugs me tightly. "E, how could I NOT worry about you?!"
Hugging her back I mumble, "Don't worry, Yugi's grandpa and his old friend, Professor Hopkins will be there..........We have parental supervision—don't stress."
"No no...........It's not that......." She starts, ".......It's just...........I don't know. You and the others are always up against something evil...........And I'm afraid that I'll lose you..........for good..........I've almost lost you twice!"
What could I say? Staying silent, I hugged her tighter to my chest.
"Please tell me that you'll be okay! Please tell me that nothing's going to happen this time! Tell me Elaya!" My mom said looking up at me, since I was about an inch taller than she was.
Something sharp poked in my mind, but I couldn't see what it was. "I can't guarantee......"
*~*~*Across the Street—-Joey's POV*~*~*
"AH! TRIS! WAKE UP!" I shouted to my friend as I realized what time it was. We had to meet the others in less then half an hour, and we're not even dressed yet!
Shoving him off my bed—with a thud—I ran into the washroom to take a shower. Hearing Tristan scream out, "Jesus! Joey!" made me laugh quietly in spite of the situation.
"Dude! About time you got out of the shower!" He yelled at me.
"Hey! I was only in there for 10 minutes! It's 10:40 now!" I retort back to him as the door slammed in my face. "I'll pack for ya!"
Grabbing the clean clothes that we washed yesterday from the dryer, I threw them in our respective luggages and closed them. Tristan came out of the washroom soon after.
"Are we gonna eat something?" He asked.
"You kidding me?! We gotta be at the airport in like 10 minutes! Come on, grab your bags!" Taking hold of my luggage, I did a mental check of what I had in there. "Tris, you ready?!"
Coming up behind me he nodded. "Where's our ride?"
Opening the door to see a black car drive up to Elaya's house, I smile. "Right there!"
*~*~*At the Airport—-Reader's POV*~*~*
"Where are those guys?" Téa said aloud. [Our flight is scheduled for take off in five minutes] She was sitting alone at the terminal. [Jeeze, I just got off a flight! Now I gotta go back on a plane for another trip!] Sighing mentally, she put her head in her hands and looked at the empty doorway. [Knowing Joey and Tristan, they probably woke up late....]
"TÉA!" She looked up to see a bunch of people running towards her. "ABOUT TIME!" She called back.
"I'm sorry to keep you waiting, Téa, but the lady at the front desk to give us our tickets was having some trouble...." Solomon Motou explained.
"Yeah, that and the fact that half of us woke up late...." Elaya muttered, looking at Joey and Tristan. [Seto was NOT happy about sharing a car with them.....] She looked at Seto's face to see that familiar frown.
"Hey! My alarm clock broke!"
"Joey, your alarm clock was broken since the eighth grade." Yugi stated simply.
"So, are we all here and accounted for?" Professor Hopkins asked.
"Yeah............No, wait! Where's Bakura?" Yugi asked. "He needs to be here...."
"GUYS!" The whole gang turned around to see their familiar white haired friend, holding a blue box.
"Speak of the devil!" Tristan joked.
"Sorry I'm late......My alarm clock got screwed up.....Terribly sorry about that...." He explained.
"Nah, don't worry about it.......We just arrived too!" Mokuba grinned. [We're all going to Egypt! This is gonna be so much fun!!]
Joey nudged Bakura. "Sure it did!"
"Uh, actually, Joey, it did......" Bakura said slowly, unsure of what to do with his friend's behaviour.
"Alright, NOW are we all accounted for?" Hopkins asked again.
"Attendance!" Elaya shouted, laughing. "Joey?"
"Here."
"Tristan?"
"Yup."
"Yug'.........Téa......?"
"Here!" They both said.
"Mokuba, Kaiba, Bakura?"
"Yup."
"Professor and Mr. Motou?"
"Present."
"And, me? Here!" Elaya said, raising her hand, like she was in preschool. "Okay, I think that we are all here...." [We better be all here.....I'm not going to Egypt just to party.....wait......]
"All passengers on the direct flight from Domino City to Cairo, Egypt, please board now at Terminal B5" The intercom said.
"B5? BINGO!" Joey shouted. After some rolled eyes, the gang headed into the plane.
[There was a farmer who had a dog and Bingo was his name-o] Kaiba grinned as he recalled the familiar nursery rhyme. [Stupid mutt......]
"Egypt! Here we come!" Yugi cried.
\ Yes......Egypt..... \ Atem thought through the link \ I'm going home..... \
*~*~*Cairo, Egypt—Reader's POV*~*~*
Walking along in the air-conditioned airport, Ishizu Ishtar and her brother, Marik Ishtar headed for the outside world.
"Sister, are we going back to the Tomb Keeper's underground quarters?" Marik asked, slightly angry. [I hate that place.........]
"No. But we are going somewhere near there my brother." Ishizu said.
"Why? Aren't we going to the Pharaoh's tomb?" Marik inquired. [I know for certain that the Pharaoh's tomb lies some many miles away.............unless her idea of 'near' is actually quite far.......] The younger Ishtar thought.
"Yes. But by the time Yugi and the others arrive here, we need to make a little visit to a previous Millennium Item holder...." She explained.
"Who is that?"
Ishizu continued to walk as she started her story. "The young Yugi Motou called me again and asked if a 'Pegasus Crawford' needed to be at the ritual—"
"—Who's he?" Marik interrupted.
"Allow me to finish brother." Ishizu stated calmly. "He asked me this because he informed me that Pegasus once held the Millennium Eye in his possession............"
"But now, the spirit inside the Millennium Ring has it....." Marik said softly. [I remember that from Battle City—when I was duelling with him against myself.....]
"Exactly. I told him that I knew where Pegasus was; at an archaeological dig outside of Alexandria, Egypt. In addition, I told Yugi that I would inform him about the ritual and of his importance to it."
"Oh........so, we're going to meet up with this 'Pegasus' guy and ask him to join the ritual?" Marik asked.
"Your quantity of questions amuses me Marik." Ishizu joked, making her lips curl into a small smile. "Some of which you already know the answers too."
"So, is that a 'yes'?" Marik asked again, this time, even more confused.
Nodding, Ishizu walked ahead of her brother, motioning him to follow her. [I hope that this trip does not affect my brother in any way.....] She thought solemnly [His own Millennium Item—as well as my own—will be there. So will the God Cards that Yugi won from Battle City..........Oh my brother, please do not be possessed again.......] Something snapped in her mind. [Could this be the warning that my senses predicted? Or is it something else? Something more?]
*~*~*Inside the Puzzle—Reader's POV*~*~*
"The Pharaoh is gone, is he not?" Yami Bakura asked.
"Yes. I believe so....." Yami Marik concluded.
"Then why the hell are we still hiding?!" The white haired spirit hissed.
"Do you WANT to get caught you idiot?" Yami Marik asked, turning around to face him.
"I wish you stopped calling me that." Yami Bakura grinned. [You've called me that once to many times—and I include the time in your head..........]
"What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing."
"Tell me."
"You wouldn't believe me, remember? You don't trust me." The spirit of the Ring grinned further.
Yami Marik glared, but turned away to keep on the watch. [The Pharaoh is now on to us.....thanks to that asshole over there—-]
A strong hand grabbed his shoulder and spun him around with ease. "I'd suggest that you don't call me that either!"
Yami Bakura's face was in a tight frown; his brown eyes narrowed and his face covered in darkness.
[How did he—-?] Yami Marik thought.
"What, read your thoughts?" Yami Bakura laughed evilly. "You honestly don't remember that I still have the Eye in my possession?!"
"What?!"
"I. Still. Have. The. Eye. In. My. Possession." He repeated slower. "You may have HAD the Rod once before, but you can not use it's 'Mind Control' power on me since it is not in your hand.....I, on the other hand, still have the Eye....." [Well, actually, that little runt Bakura has it...............but since we are one and the same—unfortunately—whatever he has, I have. We are still both alive, so our connection is still strong; not that I'd use that one anyway.......]
"So, what do you have to say to that, Tomb Keeper?" Yami Bakura asked.
Glaring once more, the purple-eyed spirit turned back around. "Come on. Let's go. The Pharaoh is not anywhere to be seen."
"Good." Yami Bakura said. "Now about this plan......We are gonna use our memories too?"
"Yes."
"Can we use real ones AND make them up?"
Stopping, Yami Marik turned around. "I wouldn't have thought of anything better myself."
"Excellent. Let us get to work. We have a lot to do." Yami Bakura said, following the other spirit into another complex maze.
*~*~*Meanwhile*~*~*
[There is something here! I can feel it!] Atem thought as he ran up more steps. [What does it want?!] "WHERE ARE YOU?!"
Taking a breather, the Pharaoh stopped, sliding down a cool stonewall until he was in a sitting position. [My mind is nothing more than a maze with millions of hiding places!] Sighing, he looked up. [Nothing but darkness and stones.......Where are they? What do they want? What will they do to get it?.........What will happen if Yugi and the others are involved?..........]
Standing up again, he took off, going up another flight of stairs. [I need to find them, before they find me and the others!]
