Chapter #9: Touch Down
*~*~*On the Plane--Elaya's POV*~*~*
"Passengers, this is your Captain speaking. I'm pleased to announce that we are moments away from landing in Cairo Egypt.....The current temperature is 25 degrees Celsius, sunny and breezy! Thank you for selecting Domino Air [1] and I hope you have a wonderful trip."
"YES! FINALLY!" Joey shouted a little too loudly as practically EVERYONE turned around and stared. I guess they were all sleeping....Joey 'eeped' as he sunk back in his seat.
"Ready guys?" I heard Yugi call from the front.
"Yup!" Solomon Motou cried.
"Ready as I'll ever be!" Bakura called from the same row as Yugi's Grandpa. Everyone else cheered, while I held my held from the throbbing pain in my temples. Ouchies...
Mokuba let out a yelp--adding to my own pain--as we descended on our destination. Instantly, me and Kaiba asked, "Mokuba, what's wrong?"
"My ears!!" He screamed.
"They're popping...." Professor Hopkins concluded. Taking something out of his jacket, he continued. "Here, suck on this..." It was a mint. I'm not sure how that whole saliva thing helps your ears from popping, but whatever. Mokuba accepted the candy.
Meanwhile, Joey and Tristan were not having so much luck; they were jumping like Mexican Dancing Beans and holding their ears.
A few moments later, after we hit the concrete--that's right, concrete, not sand.....as Joey, Tristan and I predicted--the pilot and the stewardesses, including the one that was being hit on by the two jokers, bid us farewell. Thank God. I don't know if I could have survived another second on that plane besides Joey and Tristan....sigh...
"Welcome to Cairo, Egypt. Please, make your way to your designated Luggage Drop-Off centre now. Please enjoy your stay." Said the lady over the airport's speaker system. She had a heavy accent as she repeated--what I'm guessing--to be the same message in...uh....whatever language they speak in Egypt....
"Hey, what language do they speak in Egypt?" I asked aloud.
"Egyptian, smart one." Tristan smirked at my stupidness.
"Actually, they now speak Arabic." Professor Hopkins explained. He continued, getting into detail. "The language called Egyptian, as with the hieroglyphics, was seldom used in the past centuries. Arabic was adapted when--"
"Alright. I get it." Tristan mumbled, not entirely in the mood for a history lesson at the moment....Hell, I don't think ANY of them were. We are all tired, achy and very cranky from sitting on that god-forsaken plane for over three hours.
"Elaya?" Mokuba asked, coming in stride beside me.
"Mm?" I mumbled.
"You feeling any better? Seto and the others told me that you were sick..."
Shaking off that odd feeling of...something....I managed to say--in full sentences, mind you--"I'm okay, don't worry. I'm not that sick."
Grabbing my hand and swinging it cheerfully, we made it down to the Luggage Drop-Off place waiting, impatiently, for our luggage to arrive.
"I don't get this! Everyone else's luggage is here! Where the heck is ours!" Joey shouted, pulling out his hair. Unfortunately, I was standing right beside him....
"Joey, calm down. They'll come." Téa soothed. "It's only been ten minutes."
"Yeah." Yugi agreed. He was the only one who HAD his luggage. He got his early. Lucky. But, he wouldn't show me where he kept the Items. I wanna talk to Justi, dammit!
Well, he IS standing next to me...... // Justi? You there? //
A soft whisper returned. \\ Beware of the evils that lie in the heart of the Pharaoh.... \\
// What?! // But I got no answer. "FUCK!" I cried out loud. Now it was my turn to be stared at. "What? We aren't in Church or anything......" Nothing against religion or anything there...
From the corner of my eye, I could see the disapproving heads of Yugi's Grandpa and Professor Hopkins shake from side to side. "Well, we're not!" I cried in defence.
"Hey! Joey! I think I see your bags!" Bakura called out, standing up from leaning position near the wall. Joey, who was sitting on a nearby bench with Tristan and Mokuba, jumped up and ran to the luggage thing....you know...that silver rotating thing that goes around and around and around.....Whoa, getting dizzy....
"Alright!" Joey shouted. "Hey, Tris, wake up buddy! Yours are here too!"
Spotting mine, I grabbed them before they could move away from me. I didn't know I packed this much! They seemed a lot lighter first time around.......Seto grabbed his calmly, barely breaking a sweat.
Bakura grabbed his next and also helped Solomon and Hopkins get theirs. "Thank you, my boy!" Yugi's Grandpa thanked. Arthur [2]--Professor Hopkins' first name--nodded in silent thanks and put his luggage on the little trolleys.
"Everyone got everything?" Téa asked after grabbing the last of her pink and black luggage.
Everyone double checked--even Seto!--but Joey was the one to call out, "Hey! I'm missing somethin'!"
"What Joey?" Mokuba asked innocently.
"Uh...." Joey stuttered. "It ain't for young ears to hear."
Mokuba's confused face made me laugh. "What IS in that 'missing' luggage of yours, Joesph?" I mocked.
"Yeah, I think we'd all like to know!" Téa added in, coming up beside me. I could only bet was she was thinking.
Joey was taking a few steps back. "Well?" We both asked at the same time, closing in. A confident smirk appeared. "Un-mentionables!" He defended.
"It's people like you Wheeler, that make men look like their minds only focus on one thing." Seto glared, turning around as he did so.
Tristan was holding back Joey tightly before he could do any damage to Seto's face. "Hey! Lemme go!" I heard Joey cry. "They still lost my luggage!"
"Fine Joey. Let's go ask the ladies at the front desk." Solomon groaned. After about ten minutes wasted there, we find out that his luggage of 'un- mentionable' items was still at Domino Airport. Before Joey could request to send them over, we pulled him away--with Tristan promising that he'll buy him some new 'stuff'
Man, as SOON as I get in that hotel room, I'm taking an Advil and snoozing!
*~*~*In Egypt--Reader's POV*~*~*
"Taxi!" Yugi cried. "Taxi!"
"Yugi, you gotta do it like this;" Téa said, stepping forward. She put two fingers in her mouth and whistled quite loudly. "TAXI!" [That's one thing New York taught me!] She thought, smirking at all the times she had to use that.
Surprisingly, a taxi did come, along with another crude remark by Kaiba. "Hmph. Joey didn't roll over like he was asked."
"Seto, not now." Elaya moaned. [I'm not putting up with this crap......] Coughing a bit, she held on tightly to Mokuba's hand as everyone boarded the Egyptian Shuttle Bus.
"Sweet ride..." Tristan smirked as he poked his head inside, deciding to take a window seat. Laughing, Joey took a spot next to him.
Solomon, taking the front seat, called out to the crammed bus, "You kids all right?"
Yugi, being squished between Professor Hopkins and Joey in the middle seat, manages to mutter back, "Yeah!"
Bakura, Téa, Mokuba, Seto, and Elaya were seated at the back seat, sandwiched just as uncomfortably. "Okay, no one wake me up!" Elaya calls. [I desperately need some sleepy-time...]
Unfortunately, the bumpy roads of their ride to their hotel from the airport gave none of the teens the quiet ride they wanted.
/ Atem? / Yugi asked quietly.
\ Yes? \ Atem answered.
[Wait, there is something wrong in his voice.....] Yugi thought as the tired and gasping Pharaoh talked to him. / Atem, what's wrong? Why are you out of breath?! /
Silence. [Why won't he answer me?!] An angry thought passed through Yugi's mind as the bus took a sharp turn on the road, causing them all to get pushed into Tristan.
"OW!" Tristan shouted. [What the hell?! I'm being killed here!]
"Sorry!" Came the numerous responses from the other three people seated near him.
Feeling something, Tristan shouted out to Joey, "Dude! Your hand is on my butt!"
"IS NOT!"
"Shut up!" Elaya cried, as best to her voice's ability.
"We have arrived!" The cheerful voice of the driver cried, breaking everyone's thoughts.
*~*~*Inside the Hotel--Elaya's POV*~*~*
After the lady at the front desk confirmed our rooms and such, we were off to the third floor. Unfortunately, I had to share an elevator with all of them.....WAY too crammed.
"Come on, open up!" Tristan mumbled as we all watched our floor number light up. "Finally!"
Managing to make it out of the elevators alive, we walked into this little 'lounge' area in front of the elevators. "Alright kids, this is where we will be staying!" Solomon began. "Now, let's see......I've got four rooms....that can hold about one-four people in them--but you'll have to share beds--so, who wants to go with whom?"
"As long as my room is near the bar, I'm good." I mumble.
"Okay, Tris, Kaiba and me'll share a room!" Joey suggested.
"I'd rather roll over and die, mutt.....That's something you can do." Seto smirked.
"Guys, guys, calm down!" Bakura stepped in, reasoning. "If Kaiba does not want to share a room with you two," he motioned his hands towards Joey and Tristan, "then I'll come in your room...."
"And my brother can share one with me!" Mokuba announced happily, grabbing on to his arm. "Elaya? Wanna stay with us too?"
I guess he hasn't learned why they have girl's and boy's change rooms...."I'd rather not....Téa and I have already agreed to be roommates, right Téa?" I stare at her to give her a hint.
Catching on, she stutters, "Uh, yeah! Sorry Mokuba, but friends don't break promises."
"Oh, okay!" Seeming satisfied, Mokuba smiled contently.
"Just give me my room card and I'll be going." Seto said, coolly. Arthur handed him his card and the two brothers were on their way. The rest of us followed, after being lectured on 'the rules of behaviour' by Solomon and Arthur.
"And remember, lights out is at 11:00 pm!" Yugi's grandpa finished as we headed to our rooms. Yugi is stuck with his grandpa and Pr. Hopkins....Apparently because Joey snores...
"A curfew? Come on!" Joey whined just as Solomon, Arthur and Yugi shut the door to their rooms.
"Quit complaining about it Joey......Just follow the damn thing and no one'll get hurt..." Tristan explained. The boys' room--Bakura's, Tristan's and Joey's--were across the hall from ours......Yugi's was beside Téa's and mine......and Seto's was on the other side of our room.
"See you guys later! It's been a long trip." Téa smiled and waved, bringing her luggage with her. Following her into the room--with consisted of the standard two double beds in front of a TV on top of our fridge "I'm gonna get some shut eye or something....'Kay, E?"
"Yeah....." Glancing at the clock, I realized that it was almost eight o'clock. I wonder what's on, on Egyptian television....Plopping myself on the bed, I grabbed the remote and surfed. I'll unpack later.....
*~*~*Across the Hall--Bakura's POV*~*~*
"Okay, who's sleeping with who?" Joey asked loudly as he placed his luggage on the floor.
"Don't make it sound so.....odd." I mutter.
"Well, I ain't sharing a bed with Tris over there, 'cause you have cold feet." Joey explained.
"And how would you know that?!" Tristan asked.
"Not important."
"Fine." I said, before anything serious could break out between the two. "I'll share a bed with Tristan..........Joey, you'll have the spare."
"Alright!"
"Aw man..." Tristan complained. Man, this was going to be a long day...."Whatever." I said. "Just, decide amongst yourselves--I'll end up sharing a bed with one of you anyway..."
I plopped myself on the bed closest to the door and lied down, relishing the feel of a soft pillow and a comfortable mattress to sleep on....
[[[Bakura?]]] A loud cold, mocking voice rang in my head, breaking my thought pattern.
I gasped mentally. Who's there?! I thought erratically. No, it can't be him! That ruthless bastard! After everything he's done to me and my friends! I can't let him take control over me!
[[[You thought you got rid of me, didn't you?]]] The same cold raspy voice said again.
No! Not him! Not again! It was the evil spirit inside the Ring! But, how?! I have given it to Yugi during the flight! Along with the Eye! NO! Trembling with fear, I used the mind-link I thought I didn't have anymore. [[What do you want from me?]]
[[[Everything......]]] A familiar voice laughed in my head as I grew suddenly very tired....
Very tired.....Waiting for the darkness of sleep to consume me.....
*~*~*Reader's POV*~*~*
A faint glow came out from the sleeping white haired boy. However, his back was turned and his two roommates did not notice.
"Hey! Bakura! We've figured it out!" Joey shouted. [Oh wait, is he sleeping?] "Oh, sorry man..." He whispered. Tristan and him decided that Joey will share the bed with Bakura--after a rock-papers-scissors defeat.
"Hey Joey," Tristan whispered, also recognizing that their friend was fast asleep. "Wanna watch some TV?"
"Sure! Put it on the Sports Network! I got twenty bucks that the Lightning will win against the Thrashers! [3]
Chuckling darkly and softly in his new body, the evil spirit of the Ring shone through the gentle eyes of Bakura. The Ring appeared on his chest and the Eye in his left hand. [All the power will be mine......]
*~*
[1] Yeah, Domino Air is just the made up airplane the gang is flying.....I couldn't think of anything better! [2] I'm not sure if Arthur IS Hopkins REAL first name, but for shortening sakes! [3] Those teams are hockey teams......Tamps Bay Lightning and the Atlanta Thrashers...I'm not sure why two Japanese men would watch Canadian Hockey.....Oh well....
